Great service, great food and great view!
To begin, there was a live band in the main open area at Waterside that was VERY LOUD. We had to ask to be seated way away from the front. We then sat and waited and waited and waited to get any sort of attention. We finally had to ask for a waiter. We had watched other people right near us get water then alcohol. They sat down after us! Then we witnessed the wait staff discussing our table and looking at each other as if they were lost.
Finally we got our drinks and then our food. The food was very good. My fish tacos were not hot.
We might return to try again for lunch. We will be sharing our experience with friends.
Hopefully the wait staff situation will improve
Waiter Niko was great. We had to wait a few minutes(more than usual) after being seated for a server, eventually asking for one. But once Niko was made aware we needed a server he was very apologetic for the wait and was very attentive from that point on. We also had a 7 month old baby with us and the entire staff was very accommodating. Would return and recommend!
We made an online reservation and showed up about 30 minutes early. We went to the hostess stand to let them know that we there and asked if outside seating was available. (The restaurant was about 50-75% full). They simply said “no”, nothing else, they did not greet us when we walked up, they didn’t thank us for letting them know we were there, they did not offer to seat us or call us when our table was ready, or have a seat at the bar, nothing! So we just said “we’ll wait outside” and still nothing. Because we had a party of 5 and thought it might be difficult to go somewhere else we waited for our table. I think that the hostesses need to be friendly since it’s a customer’s first impression.
Once we were seated it took a long time for our server to come to the table but once she did she was sweet and did a good job. We ordered the calamari appetizer which was delicious but a very small portion especially for the price, we joked that it was $1 for each calamari ring. Each of us ordered a different seafood dish (salmon, crab cakes, fried shrimp, shrimp scampi, shrimp and grits) and everything was very good and the portions were decent. The food came out quickly and it was hot. We would have enjoyed having bead with our entrees but there wasn’t any. We didn’t go away hungry though because the portions were filling.
The entree prices were reasonable for an upscale seafood restaurant.
Overall, the food was good and our server was good. The hostess staff was terrible, they didn’t say a word to us when we walked out either. It’s too bad that that was our first impression because we drove 45 minutes to have dinner at Stripers and I doubt we’ll ever make the trip back.
Food was amazing!!!!!
Very good meal. Very good service. Restaurant is very loud though. It was hard to carry on a conversation.
Food was good- service def could have been better. They have a huge waitstaff... but they were not focused on customers. We also saw 2 waiters holding hands while they where walking through the restaurant, weird. Are they auditioning for a reality show?!
Lunch: Riverside view was nice. Lobster bisque was amazing. Food and service were excellent.
I have eaten at Stripers several times previously when the service was superb. I was there to celebrate my husband’s birthday along with 8 friends and service was awful. The young lady whose name I can not recall was not efficient in getting our drinks nor did she ask if everyone wanted appetizers. When the dinners were served there was one gentleman who didn’t get his at the same time. She didn’t explain that there was an error until I asked. If the gratuity hadn’t been included I wouldn’t have left one for her. I was quite disappointed with the service but the food was quite delicious.
A friend and I went for dinner, the menu was amazing, we had a hard time choosing! I decided to try the she-crab soup and it was the best I'd ever had! The fish tacos were delishes and fresh, i cannot wait to take more family and friends, the atmosphere was very welcoming and the view was beautiful. Thanks for a wonderful evening with friends😀
The service and food were very good - no complaints there. 2 turnoffs - all 3 wine glasses had a soap/water ring at the top and we were asked to keep our used utensils when the appetizer plates were cleared. Made it feel more like a diner than a nice restaurant.
The atmosphere was nice, but I was surprised to see damaged walls at the booth tables. It seems too new to have damage already.
Worst service I have ever received. Waited 30 minutes for our calamari (disgusting) then waited another 40 minutes for our dinner to find out the waiter didn’t put the order in. Manager came over and apologized and then told us it would be another 45 minutes for our food because it was a busy night. Never did he offer to provide us something quick to hold us over until our food would be ready. So after waiting nearly 1.5 hours we told the manager we would be closing our tab and going elsewhere. He apologized and gave us two 10% off coupons...what??? That was probably the thing that was most annoying. Completely unprofessional and terrible management. We went to Saltine and had a wonderful dinner.
This is our 4th trip this summer. Great place to visit and dine. Best place at Waterside.
Went there for a birthday dinner. We sat outside and had a relatively quiet evening. The server was very friendly. Lobster mac and cheese, oysters Rockefeller were amazing appetizers although the lobster mac could have been a meal in itself. Seafood pasta and steak oscar are very good staple menu items but definitely would recommend asking a out the specials
Meals were very rushed. Maybe 5 minutes after appetizer arrived we received our food. We even waited until the waitress left and came back to order our entrees. Second time this has happened. Hopefully someone catches on.
Great place get the swordfish fun clean environment manager guy was great helpful
When sitting outdoors the water taxi's horn can get annoying. The food was good, especially the chowder. Service was friendly and great short one mistake that was quickly resolved.
This was our first time to Stripers, it was our anniversary. The view was perfect! Our waitress and happy hour cocktails were awesome! The food, however, was just ok for the price. I had also added a Caesar salad in which it was soaked in dressing. Our waitress had Recommended to other plates that we didn’t try and wish we had. So we will definitely be back to give the food another try. We loved everything else!
Duck was fantastic! Portion size was great
Reserved an outdoor table for 8. Upon arrival was told outdoor tables only go up to 6. Outside was basically empty and plenty of 6 person and 2 people tables available. Even after offering to move the small table ourselves we were made to sit inside. Very inaccomodating for a weds evening
Had a friend visiting Norfolk for her birthday weekend get-a-way with her fiancee. We suggested Waterside. She grew up in Hampton when Norfolk was not quite as nice on the water front. With the refurbished Waterside District we knew this would e a great location. Stripers fit the bill. Food was excellent , however my fired oyster could have stay in the fryer a bit longer as the breading was under cooked. That's why I only gave 4 stars on the food. Everything else was perfect. We sat at an outside table. Oh, if you do too, be prepared for the Water Taxi to blow it horn every 15 minutes. Part of harbor life a little annoying but part of the charm.
We celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary with dinner at Stripers. It was such a pleasant evening! Our server was awesome!!! Food was delicious!
Food was good. Waitress was very good. Hostess was not friendly/courteous.
Our server was turned loose on us for the first time without a minder and did a great job. The views are incredible, staff was friendly, food while not gourmet, was good. The noise level throughout the entire waterside facility is very high but that adds to the excitement. Nice meal, nice night!
Had a large party of 9, but were seated by the window so half could see the water/view. Good menu. Meals were outstanding - everyone was pleased with them. Service was very personable.
Mother's Day dinner turned out really well. We ate outside with music in the background and sunshine in the sky. Food was great and service we friendly and helpful.
Went for mother's day lunch. The restaurant is nice looking and our server friendly . We had oysters Rockefeller and calamari. The calamari was crisp but quite salty and the oysters were just ok. Our entrees took nearly fifty minutes to come out after ordering. My wife's shrimp and grits was also very salty. My fish tacos we good but not as good as Pelon's in Ghent. Kids had chicken strips and fries. I honestly make better fries from a frozen bag. The restaurant is nice to look at especially being on the water but the food quality was not up to par.
On one hand the server did warn us that the food would take 30-40 minutes as the kitchen was backed up. On the other hand, we had already been seated and had our drinks so what were we going to do. Service overall was slow all the way around but I think the bartender was also our waiter, so not ideal for either of us.
Food was okay. Not great. Pricey for the overall quality but they have rent to pay which I am sure is high for that premium space. To back that up the ambiance is good with good views so you have to take it all together.
I’ll probably chalk it up to an off night and try again sometime.
We had a great time! Such friendly staff- delicious food and a great environment. Plus the outside was great for our toddler to run around!!
Awesome Norfolk waterfront atmosphere. Friday night live music. Good food and great service.
It appears they are still working put the kinks. Food was okay, not spectacular. Service was miserable. Ridiculously slow. Poor knowledge of menu, slow bar -25 minutes for beers and a glass of wine. Constantly had to call waitress back to remind her to take order for drinks, appetizers, entrees, dessert. Wouldn’t go back until they know what they ate dong.
We enjoyed the buffalo shrimp appetizer with entrees of Seafood Prima Vera & Shrimp & Grits. Yummy! The Caesar salad was overdressed but everything else was great & very enjoyable. Service is pleasant.
Administrative Professionals Week lunch. It was the first time the three of us had visited Stripers and we were all delighted!!!
Food was tasty but portions on the small side. Acoustics of the building do not lend themselves to table conversation when the restaurant is full. Not helped when there is a party of 30 ladies taking a painting (and drinking) lesson and then parading their efforts through the restaurant...
My wife and I returned a couple of weeks later and sat outside. Very pleasant in the sunshine and next to the fire pit. However, portion size still small (for the price) and staff appeared to be just going through the motions.
Food was good, service very satisfactory. Wine list is very short with limited selections. restaurant was very noisy.
Our server was wonderful and extremely attentive. We all loved our brunch.
Excellent food and friendly staff made for an unforgettable dining experience.
Bar drinks were way overpriced. Food was not seasoned. Scallops were gritty and risotto was dry. Noodles in seafood pasta had no seasoning. No Pinot Noir available by the glass. Dessert was ok. Crapes were not freshly made and very chewy. Had no idea about open table reservation.
