Awful experience. We were one of MAYBE three tables in the whole restaurant tonight. Were told that they were out of shrimp (at a seafood restaurant, so half the menu), then it took about an hour for our food to arrive (again, we were 1 of 3 tables in the whole place). At least 3 out of 10 meals were incorrect, and one wasn’t even placed so he didn’t start eating until the rest of us were done.... and his meal was even wrong then. Stay away from this place.
Outstanding food and we had the best server ever. Thank you Felecia we will definitely be back!
Brunch with a friend for my birthday. Food was great and a great value.
The restaurant wasn't crowded and we watched the sun set while enjoying fantastic food. I like their desert menu but I wish they did more "to order" deserts.
Brunch Menu has excellent Eggs Benedict - perfectly poached eggs, but there is a big difference in the Crab Benedict and what was served: The egss were on top of mini-crab cakes, a disappointment when the menu says: "CRAB BENEDICT Two poached eggs and fresh warm back fin crab meat topped with hollandaise sauce on toasted English muffin". I was totally looking forward to back fin crab meat, and questioned why I received crab cakes instead. The server said she has only seen crabcakes served and wasn't aware of what the menu said. She was an excellent server, really tried to please. Kitchen didn't cooperate when I requested the English muffins be toasted to a golden brown. They were white and gummy, something I see at other restaurants often as well. She came back with a fresh plate of golden brown toasty English muffin! So I gave up on crab meat and totally enjoyed the crab cakes, but if you're reading this, you're forewarned to ask in advance. Beautiful afternoon view of the Elizabeth River, fairly quiet early Sunday afternoon, EXCELLENT service, great Orange Crush mixed drink, ice done exactly right for it, and the dessert was divine: a Limoncello mascarpone cream iced lemon cake with a little raspberry drizzle on the plate. Three of us split it for a nice light ending. Shrimps and grits flavored beautifully for my hubs (I just really prefer traditional grits to stone ground), really nice sauce with country ham, shrimp done nicely, and my son's chicken biscuit with gravy was so ginormous he took half home. Potatoes O'Brien are very tasty. Had a coupon from the Virginian-Pilot, so had a nice discount on a nice meal. A little hard to find since the entrance is a single door behind the wine bar. IF you're coming from Harbor Park, the Sheraton, or Town Point Park, you cannot miss the signage on the outside of the building. Nice patio, too. Loved the Halloween skeletons at the high top table welcoming us into the restaurant!
Fabulous ... food, service and views the Eliz. River ... coming back for a regular meal ...
It was the best choice in the marketplace but we were disappointed. I ordered my salmon well cooked and it was raw inside. And the salads were full of extra large lettuces. Instead of more but sized pieces.
The waitress took a while to come to our table but she was very nice when she got there. We had originally planned to eat outside but it was too hot. We moved inside but still had a nice view of the water. The seafood pasta was delicious, the appetizers were fantastic. Our waitress checked on us several times throughout the meal. It was a nice day and I'm sure the birthday boy enjoyed himself.
One of the worst experiences i have ever had at a restaurant. Service was absolutely horrid. We waited an hour and fifteen minutes to get our food. Only after we complained did someone react. Witnessed several tables get up and leave because they didnt get their food. After we finally got the food it was actually good. A manager did come by and apologize, but did not offer a discount or a complimentary dessert. Overall, very unattentive waitress and not a pleasant experience hearing everyone complain and walk out because if poor service.
Burning labor dollars! All these people at 415-430 standing around chatting with each other instead of attending to their customers. Once we got their attention , the server was authentic and genuine. Food quality was excellent, however menu limited.
Horrible experience with management. Beautiful scenery and atmosphere. The food was mediocre and staff desperately needs an overhall.
Food and service were great. We had seafood pasta, shared a salad and deserts of creme brulee which my niece stated was great and the special lemon-cello cake which was light and tasty.
We were very happy with the service, food , and over all experience.
Tasty seafood options with a wide variety of beer on tap. Good view of the Waterside marina, across to the Old Portsmouth waterfront. Easy access to/from the Elizabeth River Passenger Ferry.
We had a lovely dinner outside. The food was fabulous. Best fresh seafood in town. Apps and entrees were cooked perfectly and tasted great. The wait staff were very attentative and friendly. Recommend trying this gem out.
We had a very friendly waiter and we were greeted and seated immediately.
Great service, great food and great view!
To begin, there was a live band in the main open area at Waterside that was VERY LOUD. We had to ask to be seated way away from the front. We then sat and waited and waited and waited to get any sort of attention. We finally had to ask for a waiter. We had watched other people right near us get water then alcohol. They sat down after us! Then we witnessed the wait staff discussing our table and looking at each other as if they were lost.
Finally we got our drinks and then our food. The food was very good. My fish tacos were not hot.
We might return to try again for lunch. We will be sharing our experience with friends.
Hopefully the wait staff situation will improve
Waiter Niko was great. We had to wait a few minutes(more than usual) after being seated for a server, eventually asking for one. But once Niko was made aware we needed a server he was very apologetic for the wait and was very attentive from that point on. We also had a 7 month old baby with us and the entire staff was very accommodating. Would return and recommend!
We made an online reservation and showed up about 30 minutes early. We went to the hostess stand to let them know that we there and asked if outside seating was available. (The restaurant was about 50-75% full). They simply said “no”, nothing else, they did not greet us when we walked up, they didn’t thank us for letting them know we were there, they did not offer to seat us or call us when our table was ready, or have a seat at the bar, nothing! So we just said “we’ll wait outside” and still nothing. Because we had a party of 5 and thought it might be difficult to go somewhere else we waited for our table. I think that the hostesses need to be friendly since it’s a customer’s first impression.
Once we were seated it took a long time for our server to come to the table but once she did she was sweet and did a good job. We ordered the calamari appetizer which was delicious but a very small portion especially for the price, we joked that it was $1 for each calamari ring. Each of us ordered a different seafood dish (salmon, crab cakes, fried shrimp, shrimp scampi, shrimp and grits) and everything was very good and the portions were decent. The food came out quickly and it was hot. We would have enjoyed having bead with our entrees but there wasn’t any. We didn’t go away hungry though because the portions were filling.
The entree prices were reasonable for an upscale seafood restaurant.
Overall, the food was good and our server was good. The hostess staff was terrible, they didn’t say a word to us when we walked out either. It’s too bad that that was our first impression because we drove 45 minutes to have dinner at Stripers and I doubt we’ll ever make the trip back.
Food was amazing!!!!!
Very good meal. Very good service. Restaurant is very loud though. It was hard to carry on a conversation.
Food was good- service def could have been better. They have a huge waitstaff... but they were not focused on customers. We also saw 2 waiters holding hands while they where walking through the restaurant, weird. Are they auditioning for a reality show?!
Lunch: Riverside view was nice. Lobster bisque was amazing. Food and service were excellent.
I have eaten at Stripers several times previously when the service was superb. I was there to celebrate my husband’s birthday along with 8 friends and service was awful. The young lady whose name I can not recall was not efficient in getting our drinks nor did she ask if everyone wanted appetizers. When the dinners were served there was one gentleman who didn’t get his at the same time. She didn’t explain that there was an error until I asked. If the gratuity hadn’t been included I wouldn’t have left one for her. I was quite disappointed with the service but the food was quite delicious.
A friend and I went for dinner, the menu was amazing, we had a hard time choosing! I decided to try the she-crab soup and it was the best I'd ever had! The fish tacos were delishes and fresh, i cannot wait to take more family and friends, the atmosphere was very welcoming and the view was beautiful. Thanks for a wonderful evening with friends😀
The service and food were very good - no complaints there. 2 turnoffs - all 3 wine glasses had a soap/water ring at the top and we were asked to keep our used utensils when the appetizer plates were cleared. Made it feel more like a diner than a nice restaurant.
The atmosphere was nice, but I was surprised to see damaged walls at the booth tables. It seems too new to have damage already.
Worst service I have ever received. Waited 30 minutes for our calamari (disgusting) then waited another 40 minutes for our dinner to find out the waiter didn’t put the order in. Manager came over and apologized and then told us it would be another 45 minutes for our food because it was a busy night. Never did he offer to provide us something quick to hold us over until our food would be ready. So after waiting nearly 1.5 hours we told the manager we would be closing our tab and going elsewhere. He apologized and gave us two 10% off coupons...what??? That was probably the thing that was most annoying. Completely unprofessional and terrible management. We went to Saltine and had a wonderful dinner.
This is our 4th trip this summer. Great place to visit and dine. Best place at Waterside.
Went there for a birthday dinner. We sat outside and had a relatively quiet evening. The server was very friendly. Lobster mac and cheese, oysters Rockefeller were amazing appetizers although the lobster mac could have been a meal in itself. Seafood pasta and steak oscar are very good staple menu items but definitely would recommend asking a out the specials
Meals were very rushed. Maybe 5 minutes after appetizer arrived we received our food. We even waited until the waitress left and came back to order our entrees. Second time this has happened. Hopefully someone catches on.
Great place get the swordfish fun clean environment manager guy was great helpful
When sitting outdoors the water taxi's horn can get annoying. The food was good, especially the chowder. Service was friendly and great short one mistake that was quickly resolved.
This was our first time to Stripers, it was our anniversary. The view was perfect! Our waitress and happy hour cocktails were awesome! The food, however, was just ok for the price. I had also added a Caesar salad in which it was soaked in dressing. Our waitress had Recommended to other plates that we didn’t try and wish we had. So we will definitely be back to give the food another try. We loved everything else!
Duck was fantastic! Portion size was great
Reserved an outdoor table for 8. Upon arrival was told outdoor tables only go up to 6. Outside was basically empty and plenty of 6 person and 2 people tables available. Even after offering to move the small table ourselves we were made to sit inside. Very inaccomodating for a weds evening
Had a friend visiting Norfolk for her birthday weekend get-a-way with her fiancee. We suggested Waterside. She grew up in Hampton when Norfolk was not quite as nice on the water front. With the refurbished Waterside District we knew this would e a great location. Stripers fit the bill. Food was excellent , however my fired oyster could have stay in the fryer a bit longer as the breading was under cooked. That's why I only gave 4 stars on the food. Everything else was perfect. We sat at an outside table. Oh, if you do too, be prepared for the Water Taxi to blow it horn every 15 minutes. Part of harbor life a little annoying but part of the charm.
We celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary with dinner at Stripers. It was such a pleasant evening! Our server was awesome!!! Food was delicious!
Food was good. Waitress was very good. Hostess was not friendly/courteous.
