Amazing place! The speak easy is an extension of the actual restaurant but stands alone on its own. The vibe is great and the bartender, Shannon, is awesome! A definite Must!
They tried to upsell us on some frequent user program and for the classy steakhouse vibe they were going for it was absolutely unacceptable.
Went for dinner after saturday theater matinee. Had reservation for 6:30 but the bar was empty
when we arrived (5:30) and we asked if we could just stay at the bar to eat. They were very accomadating. Four of us at the bar and we were able to talk easily. Shannon at the bar was terrific, quick with our drinks and order and very friendly. We shared several appetizers including a lobster roll that Shannon had cut into four for us to each get a taste. It was excellent. The steaks were melt in your mouth and full of flavor. Dessert was a HUGE piece of chocolate cake, it was enough for a room full of people and delicious. After dinner coffees and we left about 2 hours later. Excellent experience, very good food, great service and sociable people at the bar. Ran $500 without the tip.
Excellent as always. I ordered the aged ribeye which has tremendous flavor.
The bone in ribeye is also quite excellent.
Food here is always on point. It really is one of my favorite restaurants in the city.
Food - Me and my girlfriend ordered a half raw bar to start, a tomahawk steak, and a side of black truffle cream spinach. It was by far the best meal I’ve ever had. The oysters and clams were so fresh and not fishy in the slightest. The tomahawk steak was cooked to perfection (rare with a black outside for us) and was sided with a roasted head of garlic. I ate a half of a clove with every piece I cut :). It was the most enjoyable steak I’ve ever had. I can’t forget about the black truffle cream spinach either. Great side with great flavor. I’ll be back for sure
Drinks - I’m no wine expert (I can tell the good stuff from the bad stuff) but we got a $50 bottle of Pinot Gris and it was REALLY good. Otherwise the drink menu has just about every option of every liquor and insane amounts of wine.
Atmosphere - The atmosphere kind of undersells the place. It was more of a fancy/divey bar (but I guess that explains “speakeasy”). That doesn’t bother me though. I enjoy good food and a good time.
Service - I felt like a movie star...
Price - a little pricey but it’s expected so u can’t complain
Overall - Me and my girlfriend had an amazing 5 year anniversary and an amazing experience at Strip House. I HIGHLY recommend it.
Love this place and wish I could give them 5 stars but honestly the ribeye was just not the best. It was food for sure but a little chewy as though it had been precooked and reheated when served. I know steak very well and that’s just how the texture felt to me. Service cocktails and sides were excellent.
My first steak in NYC and it did not disappoint! All of the food was wonderful, the staff was super attentive and the evening was great. Thanks for making our Valentine's Day awesome!
Great intimate place in the Union Square area. The atmosphere was relaxed and service was very attentive. Since it’s a steak house we order steaks that were on point and did not disappoint, sides were also very well done and more than enough food for just the 2 of us... I’ll definitely be back. I’ve had dinner before at the main restaurant and the speakeasy was just as enjoyable.
We went here to celebrate my husband and the food was simply underwhelming. the appetizer with brussel spouts and egg was actually gross and the steak was not worth the price. I would not go here again or recommend it.
Food was incredible. Best restaurant week deal.
Dinner was beyond our expectations. What an intimate space. A perfect hidden gem in Manhattan. Make sure to get their Ribeye. The charred crust seals in all the flavor. Best steak I have had in a while and the service was top notch. Can’t wait to come back for more!
The appetizers and food was really delicious... I have to say... I had no complaints about the food or service...everyone was friendly, it was very nice and i would definitely recommend this place and would return.
I thought the food was excellent and the waitress that waited on my boyfriend and I was wonderful. I went for restaurant week with my boyfriend and the speakeasy vibe was unbelievable, the bartender was so kind, it would have been an overall 100% amazing experience. For a little background, I am 23 years old and actually know a good bit about wine for my age, so I opened the masssiivvee wine list and I heard two employees (not my waitress) talking about me. I heard the woman say "She looks like she has no idea what she's doing" and the man replied something along the lines of "Yeah thats bad, they are definitely here because of the restaurant week menu, you better go help her" then the woman came up to me and told me I should get the restaurant week wine. IT WAS A GREAT DEAL and I knew the bottle so I was happy to accept, however, their judgements made me feel uncomfortable the rest of the dinner and on top of that, I then felt out of place and awkward ordering the restaurant week dinner. It's such a shame because the night would have been perfect otherwise. I will still recommend this to anyone and the two who were talking about us were extremely friendly to our faces...
rest week so got a deal... it was very loud and packed. servers bumped into us every few minutes. food rushed out of the kitchen to turn over for new customers. 3 course dinner in 60 mins... bell boys lost my suitcase and claimed it was never checked. i had to do digging myself to find it. paid a hefty amount anyways. avoid at all costs!
Came for my husbands birthday dinner during restaurant week. $42 for 3 course meal (dinner), but supplemental $10 for steak option which we selected amd $8 supplemental for their famous chocolate cake (also opted for). The food was fabulous. At first we were nervous the restaurant week steak portion would be too small for my husband as he has a big appetite, but after the delicious onion soup with grilled cheese and the bread served to the table it was definately enough! We left stuffed and took home most of the cake for later. Service was good, staff was friendly but the only downside was they forgot the candle in the cake. Atmosphere is dark, but normal for a speakeasy. Expensive restaurant but well priced for the quality! Restaurant week was a good deal for a special occasion. Will return.
We went for a special night with my best friend and her boyfriend. The waiter was honestly terrifying. We had to ask him about the specials, whereas normal interactions would let you know that first thing when you order. When he was going over the order, he was going into deep detail about the bacon and my friend doesn't eat that, so we politely noted that he didn't need to completely go into it. I said that she was Jewish and didn't eat bacon, he then insisted that he was Jewish because he was Christian. It an interesting choice of words. He then let us know it wasn't restaurant week on Saturdays--totally fine. We then proceeded to order. He took my order and my friend's order (a woman). He completely ignored my boyfriend's order and walked away as he was talking. My boyfriend had to go get him from the back of the restaurant to let him know that he walked away and there was no way he got the order, because he was still talking as he walked away. We felt very confused. The food was good--creamed spinach was delish. We got the Ahi Tuna, and a random sauce on the side. It would have been nice for our waiter to do his job of explaining that the sauce was for the ahi tuna since it was served in a small syrup dispenser.
Overall the food was good, but the service was horrendous. This waiter was so odd and made us feel uncomfortable overall.
Their food is always great! Would recommend this place to anyone who wants a good meal, it never disappoints.
Our meal was fantastic and the service was wonderful! I am a critic of restaurant service, but the hostess was, hands down, one of the best parts of the meal! She did not forget about us during a seating delay and she was sincere, genuine and truly helpful. The food was great (short rib tagliatelle 😍) and the experience was perfect for a Friday night date!
They forgot to honor my request to get something sent out for my boyfriends birthday. It was a restaurant week reso, but i wouldn’t be caught dead forgetting someone’s birthday in the service industry. You want five stars? Pay more attention.
Incredible dinner. The steaks are off the charts.
Myself and my fiance had a great time food and was great.
The Striphouse Speakeasy has an intimate feel and is a very cool place. It is is step back in time. The steaks - especially the special bone in filet was incredible. All the food and the service were excellent. You will not be disappointed at the Striphouse.
took my boyfriend here for his 40th birthday. Service was ok, we had to ask for bread and butter. Seating was a bit tight and the AC vent was blowing right above us so it got cold for us and our food pretty quick. We did not get dessert but sometimes when you mention it is someones birthday the restaurant will send something small with a candle but they did not do that for us, oh well.
I can't say enough about the strip house. Hands down my favorite steakhouse in NYC. The food is fantastic and the staff is always there when you need them but I never feel rushed when I am there.
My wife and I went there for her birthday and it was just a great experience all around. Highly recommended.
They seated us at a two top along a wall with a bench next to a party of roughly 15, 25 year old guys. Unfortunately, 15 became 20+ people, and they kept trying to cram bodies into the small, overcrowded space. At one point, my Wife was literally being squashed by a drunk 25 year old guy who was on the bench but nowhere near the table (since it was too small). Every time he got up (often), his butt would graze our table, drinks etc. The restaurant decided to ignore the problem until I forced them to move our table. At that point they were nice and bought me a drink and offered free dessert, but the meal was ruined. We had a $140 bottle of wine, apps, two steaks - about $400 total - all a waste. The food is admittedly great. But we couldn’t get cocktails because “the bartender was backed up.” Our apps came out with 3 mins of ordering and our steaks within 15 mins. Food arrived before wine. The bus boys spent the entire night focusing on the frat party next to us - so I ate most of my meal with no water, no cocktail and no wine. Awful experience and terrible management. I appreciate the effort once I forced them to do something, but the fact that they were going to look the other way is unacceptable. They should never have let the frat boys simply pack in more and more bodies. As for the guys? Learn how to behave in public. You are too old to act like that.
The restaurant was nice an quiet, good for a place in the city to catch up with someone in a traditional environment. I would say the food is the main event. My boyfriend had the New York Strip Steak, and I had the Shrimp Cocktail and Lobster Bisque. To DIE FOR! the Shrimp were not only huge, but sooo fresh you can taste it! and I don't really eat meat but I had a small bite of my boyfriend and it was delicious. Must say the Lobster Bisque was stellar and perfectly creamy for a cold NYC winter nite.
Ate here on a Friday night. Restaurant wasn't too busy which is good. My fiancee ordered the steak strip and was unimpressed. It was very tough and hard to eat. I had the lamb which was delightful. Their cake is incredible but very very hard to finish.
Consistently good. Attentive service and reliably good steak.
Loved the food!!!!! Great service!!
I've been in NYC for 3 and half years and this was by far the best restaurant that I've been to. The steak was terrific. So juicy cooked just right. Any sauce that has been invented would ruin the party in your mouth by the way Strip House have invented their flavor.
All the staff were impeccable, You go to these fancy restaurants and get robots but these guys were amazing. Anything you wanted you could have. Best Old fashioned I've had.
If you try their Signature 24 Layer Chocolate Cake be sure to invite 24 of your mates. This thing is bigger that your head.
We loved the Speakeasy! It's in the basement of the Strip House and is very unnoticeable, just as I would expect a speakeasy to be. The interior is very masculine, which we agreed was perfect for a steakhouse. We sat in the back corner. The tables are a little close to each other, but it worked. We had the hamburger and the beef filet, with a iceberg wedge and charred broccoli. All of it was excellent. What made our evening was our waiter, who was excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Waitstaff was very supportive and knowledgeable. Wine list wasn't overly biased to new world. And the ribeye for two was spectacular. Overall a wonderful discovery! We left there vowing to return.
Amazing experience with food to die for...will be back!!!
Bartender clueless, our server - more interested in being charming than competent - got most things wrong. Caesar salad "Special" vile, decent quality steak way over-salted (and much smaller than listed '20 oz.'), wines by the glass overpriced. Different league from other steakhouses.
Service was the best in New York. I live there, so I know!
Great steakhouse! Loved the dark, red ambiance. The truffled cream spinach might have been the best I've ever had. Steaks were awesome as was the service. Skip 21 Club and come here.
Having been here six times now, I’m ready to endorse this as my favorite steakhouse in all of NYC and I’ve been to them all. These are the most flavorful steaks paired with a seemingly endless wine list, a sommelier who is charming and funny as he is intelligent and quick with the wines, all encased in a dark, cozy, velvet-lined decor makes for all but the most romantic of experiences.
Highly, highly recommended.
Pleasant but not great. Certainly very expensive! Would not return.
Ended up deciding on Strip House Speakeasy for a night out and would highly recommend for anyone else looking to do the same. Our waiter was a lovely, attentive Irishman who couldn't have been any more helpful. There was a bachelor party at a nearby table and they weren't loud or obnoxious at all, but the maitre' de, who's name was Kevin McGrath, was nice enough to come over and apologize even though one wasn't necessary. He even offered to buy a round of drinks or dessert, and it was much appreciated. I will gladly return here again.
