The restaurant was nice an quiet, good for a place in the city to catch up with someone in a traditional environment. I would say the food is the main event. My boyfriend had the New York Strip Steak, and I had the Shrimp Cocktail and Lobster Bisque. To DIE FOR! the Shrimp were not only huge, but sooo fresh you can taste it! and I don't really eat meat but I had a small bite of my boyfriend and it was delicious. Must say the Lobster Bisque was stellar and perfectly creamy for a cold NYC winter nite.
I've been in NYC for 3 and half years and this was by far the best restaurant that I've been to. The steak was terrific. So juicy cooked just right. Any sauce that has been invented would ruin the party in your mouth by the way Strip House have invented their flavor.
All the staff were impeccable, You go to these fancy restaurants and get robots but these guys were amazing. Anything you wanted you could have. Best Old fashioned I've had.
If you try their Signature 24 Layer Chocolate Cake be sure to invite 24 of your mates. This thing is bigger that your head.
We loved the Speakeasy! It's in the basement of the Strip House and is very unnoticeable, just as I would expect a speakeasy to be. The interior is very masculine, which we agreed was perfect for a steakhouse. We sat in the back corner. The tables are a little close to each other, but it worked. We had the hamburger and the beef filet, with a iceberg wedge and charred broccoli. All of it was excellent. What made our evening was our waiter, who was excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Bartender clueless, our server - more interested in being charming than competent - got most things wrong. Caesar salad "Special" vile, decent quality steak way over-salted (and much smaller than listed '20 oz.'), wines by the glass overpriced. Different league from other steakhouses.
Having been here six times now, I’m ready to endorse this as my favorite steakhouse in all of NYC and I’ve been to them all. These are the most flavorful steaks paired with a seemingly endless wine list, a sommelier who is charming and funny as he is intelligent and quick with the wines, all encased in a dark, cozy, velvet-lined decor makes for all but the most romantic of experiences.
Highly, highly recommended.
Ended up deciding on Strip House Speakeasy for a night out and would highly recommend for anyone else looking to do the same. Our waiter was a lovely, attentive Irishman who couldn't have been any more helpful. There was a bachelor party at a nearby table and they weren't loud or obnoxious at all, but the maitre' de, who's name was Kevin McGrath, was nice enough to come over and apologize even though one wasn't necessary. He even offered to buy a round of drinks or dessert, and it was much appreciated. I will gladly return here again.
I was very excited to bring my friends and family here to celebrate a birthday (as I have been in the past). However I was incredibly disappointed in the service and the attitude of our waiter. For a tab of over $700 - We all expected a more friendlier and more attentive staff. Sadly I likely will not recommend the speakeasy area to friends or family.
This place is extremely expensive. We ordered the smaller seafood tower and it was incredible. Without any effort and a total of three drinks.........the check for the two of us was $250. And by the way we shared one steak for our main course. Not to be confused with a steak for 2. This was a steak for one. All and all everything was very excellent. However before you go here be prepared to spend a lot for dinner! Great for a special occasion.
Service was spot on, and steaks were tops in flavor, texture and portions, which is why we went there. Starters and sides were delicious too (dessert was so-so). The speakeasy is tighter quarters, typical NYC. Next time we will reserve further ahead to get a better positioned table. Glad we went.
Striphouse Speakeasy has a great ambience and vibe. The staff here has a lot to do with that. They're friendly, make solid recommendations and have a comfortable communication with customers. Amanda served us at the bar on this night and she was perfect. Her menu guidance was spot on -- the bacon and the shrimp disappeared shortly after arriving. Our entrees were prepared to order and perfectly as requested. We never wanted for refills on cocktails and her Cosmo was worthy of Wikipedia. Not my first time at Striphouse Speakeasy and won't be my last. The steak beat Frankie & Johnnys by a mile as does the atmosphere. For business dinners or drinks this is THE place to come. More intimate than Del Friscos so you can actually have a discussion and hear it.
The creamed spinach was definitely a highlight. And the oysters were also very, very good. It was pretty crowded and busy but overall the service was quite good (although our waiter did seem to disappear at the end of the night) and they did comp a glass of wine that took too long to get to our table.
A coworker strongly recommended this restaurant for my husband's birthday. The waiter provided the single worst! service I've received at any restaurant in New York City. He forgot half of the things we ordered and honestly did not care. However, the table servers were great. That said, the food was excellent and the manager took a few things off our bill and gave us a free dessert. He was very kind and wanted us to have a good dining experience. We will definitely go back.
We've been going to the Strip House for years - maybe 3-4 times a year. It's always been our go-to special occasion/friends in town destination. The food has been consistantly great but the last few times we dined at Strip House there's been a major side of additude and arrogance that comes along with our steaks. It occurs the moment you are greeted at the host/ess station and it continues with the wait staff. You don't get a "we're happy you are here vibe" it's more "um you should be thrilled you are here vibe" or "you're kind of bothering us vibe".
If you are a steakhouse fan this place is amazing - our filet's are always cooked perfectly. The sides are incredible esp. the truffle creamed spinach and I LOVE the Stip House potatos. My takeway is this, there are a lot of fantastic steakhouses in NYC - Strip House is one of the best but I think I'm going to start branching out because I'm about the entire experience - food and serivce and the attidude is something I could do without.
An NYC steakhouse that is away from the beaten path. Their steaks are top notch and while I wouldn't compare this to Peter Luger's, if you don't have time to wait a month for a reservation, this place is just a notch below. I've been here 4 times over the last 2 years and they have been consistent with each meal and service. The downstairs area is less stuffy than the upstairs area. But the service isn't quite as good., not bad per se just rushed.
I would recommend the upstairs area for first timers as they would get a better experience. But if you're just hanging out for a few hours with a 1-3 people and prefer the bar scene with a great steak, go downstairs.
