Stratford Proper Cafe & Bistro
We loved our experience at Stratford Proper. The service was fast and friendly. The food and drinks were fantastic. My boyfriend had the burger with brie cheese and candied bacon (highly recommend adding it) and it was moist and perfectly cooked. The french fries are some of the best we've ever had. I had the beet salad and added steak. Great portion size and my steak was cooked exactly as I asked. Try the Rolls Royce cocktail for dessert. So delicious! So happy this gem is in our neighborhood. We will be back.
The food, cocktails, and service were all exceptional. Will definitely be returning.
Valentine’s Day date with reservations. Had a great time, good service and drink. I would definitely return.
Stratford Proper ably fills the void left by Per Noi’s success and departure. This remains a very good restaurant offering in a low traffic neighborhood, honoring both the Per Noi and Italiano legacy and the growing Proper reputation. The rather simple menu is well executed and the value is outstanding (Park City chefs take note). The eatery is new so they’re forgiven for a too dry Carbonara (generous with Pancetta) but their mussels in a fennel cream are arguably the most interesting and delectable preparation along the Wasatch Front. This place can only get better.
Very cool place with great food. We went there on Valentine's Day, the service was fantastic, the food was amazing and we will definitely be back.
Love to have such a cool place in our neighborhood
Great dining experience. We were seated promptly upon arrival. Our waitress, Laura, was wonderful. She was very friendly and gave excellent recommendations. The food and drinks were excellent.
The menu was interesting and varied. . The pesto pizza was very tasty and more than enough for one person. The flavor of the gnocchi was lovely but the gnocchi was a bit mushy.
It would be a nice addition to have some artwork on the walls.
I will definitely return in the future.
I’m glad to have Proper in my neighborhood - the food is good and reasonably priced. However, the atmosphere is pretty austere and the noise level is ridiculous. It was a Saturday night and the place was full. We could not hear a word our server said and had to ask her to repeat herself several times. If the place is not crowded, then it’s pleasant enough, but I doubt I go back on a Friday or Saturday evening.
I thought the food was only fair. And not cheap. The noise is so bad you have to shout at your guests.
Nice, quaint restaurant, but the noise level was extremely high. You had to shout across the table so your dinner guests could hear you.
Second time in a week that we ate there. First time, on a Tuesday, it was serene, little noise, food was perfectly cooked. We had a long talk with our waitress. Second time, Thursday night was sheer bedlam. Waited for table even though we had a reservation, waitstaff practically running to service everyone, food was over prepared, etc.
Great place. They just need to be ready for crowds.
This is a must visit. Outstanding food and service. Great patery chef
Food, service and atmosphere was fabulous. Fun to have a neighborhood spot to gather
I’m still dreaming about the food! Service people warm and helpful. Loved it!
We had reservations but were placed in the back corner table next to the bathrooms while the folks seated after us were given better tables without reservations. We had a beet salad as a shared appetizer which was very tasty. Our mains were a hamburger which had very dry buns, the fries were great, and then the other main was the squash gnocchi. The gnocchi was mushy, overcooked and the squash very under cooked, the flavor was very nice. Overall quite disappointing as we live close by and walked there. We were hoping to have a local eatery to enjoy but with the very limited menu and experience this first try I don't think we'll go back again.
Super busy as usual but we were able to linger and chat after our meal without feeling pushed by the wait staff. We did tip accordingly :)
The food and service were great but the noise level is unbearable!
Simple menu. Food was good and great service.
Well prepared dishes and great servers
Quaint neighborhood spot. I had the burger and fries, which were very good. My dining partner had the prosciutto and arugula pizza. The service was a little laxed, so once they become more attentive, the ratings will go up. Definitely suggest making reservations, as they fill up quickly.
Our server Alli was outstanding, food and presentation was awesome! We nee d a Proper in Holladay!!!
I have enjoyed Stratford Proper twice now. The second time the noise level really got to me though and I had to leave. But that said, the French Toast was killer and my friend's Stratford Breakfast was excellent. She raved about the bacon!
I will definitely be returning to Stratford Proper. The flavors and textures of the squash gnocchi are out of the ordinary and blend well. I didn’t try my husband’s carbonara but he was happy with it. This was our initial visit so there are still many dishes on the menu begging to be tasted.
There are two dining areas, separated by the entrance and kitchen. We were seated in the room to the left, which was quite noisy. Perhaps the other room is quieter. For that reason this may not be the best place to have a serious conversation. But it’s a fun place with creative cuisine, well prepared.
Always a great meal!!
The food was bland, the ambience was nice. Brunch drinks were cheap, but also tiny, so decent value for what you get.
The atmosphere was warm and quiet. The food was made quickly and was well done. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Sloppy chef, it was our 3rd time here and they can’t get the food right. Don’t order any pasta dishes, they will come out cold. My “well-done” burger was as pink as my friend’s “medium-rare” (not good for someone who’s pregnant and is trying to avoid undercooked meats). Mushroom Angolotti - not good, gnocchi - not good, spaghetti bolognese - the worst we’ve ever had. I also had one of the mocktails and it was so sour - impossible to drink.
Seating area in the room on the east side of the restaurant is very noisy; it really needs some soundproofing. We asked to change to the other room, which was better. Service was good. The 3 of us shared a plate of hushpuppies, which were really good. No complaints about our entrees, EXCEPT for the hashbrowns. It was seriously like the chef took a raw potato, used a spiralizer on it, added no salt or seasonings whatsoever, and then heated it for a minute. I know most vegetables can suffer from being overcooked, but potatoes do not fall into that category. Overall a good experience, and I would like to return to try other things on the menu both for breakfast and lunch. Looks like they could be interesting.
Great neighborhood microbrew pub! Came for brunch - Definitely going back to try lunch and dinner! Can't wait for the patio seating in the summer.
Had a great experience. Food was great, will be returning.
I really like the pasta dishes I have tried. The gnocchi is my favorite.
Loved the vibe. Our meal started out great - appetizers were delicious.
Main courses were a train wreck - like someone dropped the entire salt shaker over my salad w/trout and one of the other guests who had ordered the trout.
Wanted to love it - providing feedback, because I really hope they can find a way to get it right!
Went for brunch. Very slow service, loud. Overpriced for what you get. I would not go back again
We loved our meal at Stratford Proper! The six of us tried several dishes, and all were delicious. The food was fresh, visually appealing, tasty, and well prepared. We had trout, gnocchi, the warm beet salad (my favorite), burgers, and the cast iron chicken. We also had three yummy appetizers; hush puppies, brie inside pastry, and funeral potatoes (yes - as good as my recipe). The service was excellent. Our server was knowledgable, prompt, and helpful. We are happy to have such a good new restaurant walking distance in our neighborhood.
Everything was fine The service is especially excellent.
Most of the food was really good (hush puppies were dry and way too dense). Everything else was excellent. However, the Manhattan was atrocious—about 1/2 oz of bourbon and the rest was ice. It was like a slightly bourbon-flavored snow cone.
Great spot for a delicious casual dinner! Beet salad, mussels and trout dishes were great!
It was just ok. Would consider giving it another chance because it just opened. Food not as good as other Poper restaurants which was disappointing
