“New” (1 1/2 years). Replaced another Italian restaurant in same location. Very innovative Italian food plus the usual American favorites, pork chops, burgers all farm to table. Proper also makes its own beer! Lovely local restaurant with outside seating for the summer. Didn’t get a chance to try there in house produced sweets. We’ll definitely be back.
Great steak salad and poutine. Waiter Ben was excellent. Crome brûlée just ok. Will be back!
fun new neighborhood find. The app, meal & cocktail I had competed with avenue's proper which we love.
Food was very good, I’d definitely go back. Servers were attentive however the food took forever to come. We were going to a show afterwards and even though we let them know it still took an unusually long time to get our dinner. We almost have to leave without eating...
But the food was so good I’m willing to give them a second chance.
Took them a little while to remember they had seated us. But, after that the service was great. The food, I would call low sodium bar food. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t great, either. I would try it again, except, there are so many little neighborhood restaurants popping up to try, it might be a while before we get back here.
Stratford Proper never disappoints. We went the night after valentines, knowing it would be busy. They took amazing care of us, kept us updated on everything going on and provided stellar service as always. My husband said.. I want to tel everybody how great it is here but at the same time I don’t! :)
Trying too hard to be edge trendy in a neighborhood that needs/wants a bit more traditional and value for families and older couples.
Cute place, was excited to try it so I made reservations.
The service was terrible - got seated right away, but we didn't see another person for 25-30 minutes, and that was after we went up to the front to inquire. Food and drinks were extremely slow, appetizer came after our food was served. Food wasn't hot when it was delivered.
Overall not a good experience.
Excellent service, food was excellent, drinks were tasty, could not have done much better!
Stratford Proper is definitely a favorite Valley restaurant and is consistently delicious food and a great over all experience. Great dinner choices, lovely patio for warm weather, and great dessert selections with bakery case in front too!
We have continued to try Stratford Proper because we love the venue and location and the sister restaurants. Unfortunately, this restaurant continues to disappoint with inedible food and subpar service. We have tried work arounds, such as only ordering the burger and fries, which is usually tasty. This time they even managed to mess up on french fries by seriously over salting and made us ALL the wrong burger that was also poorly prepared. If this was a first, we would give a pass. We wish they would improve.
We chose this place for a Sunday brunch and will definitely go back again.
Limited menu options, poor service and tasteless food. Would not eat there again.
The best thing about this restaurant is its neighborhood feel. It is small and quaint, and in the summer the outdoor dining is great. I thought the overall experience this time was just OK, however. We had a reservation at 6:30 and when we arrived the hosted said "we are fully booked tonight so it will be a 10-15 minute wait". OK, then why take reservations? Then after being seated, they told us there was a table of 15 that was tying up the kitchen so the food would be late. Huh? The food was just OK, nothing to write home about. The risotto was mediocre, and the appetizer was mediocre too. But the price tag was high for this quality food.
All of our dishes were great the warm beat salad was awesome!
Service was a little slow and they didn’t seem to be prepared with items such as coffee.
Great experience thank you.
We love this place but the hostess made it a poor experience. Several diners felt the same way. The food was awesome as always. Just disappointed with the hostess.
Really great service, there were very few people in the restaurant. Great beer and food although we were hoping they offered some of their "beer cocktails" which they no longer do at this location. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We brought friends from DC who frequently dine out and loved this neighborhood gem. Because its so small the tables are very close together so many times we felt like we had to hold back because we were too loud which was a bummer. Planning to go back soon :)
The food is amazing and the ambiance. They don't over decorate because the food is the showcase. The service was outstanding.
They were out of the veggie burger which was disappointing. I ordered Southwest Benedict instead and it was ok. The fries are really good. Service was really slow to get coffee and food.
Consistently very good.
Nice place. Nice people. Beet salad was great. Burger was marginal. I asked for some Ketchup to go with my plate of fries and they gave me about 2 teaspoons enough for about 10 fries.
I really enjoyed our meal and time at the restaurant. We’d discussed coming back during warmer weather to enjoy the marvelous patio!
The food was delicious. We had made a reservation for brunch, and extra people joined us that we didn't know about. The restaurant was very accommodating and moved tables to make sure we had enough room for our group. The service was very slow. About 20 minutes or so without service, we caught our server's eye and asked if we could order. She was very short and said she would get to us soon. I think she realized she was being short, and quickly came to take our order. The food took a little while to come out, but it was delicious as always. The one big negative for us is that they ran out of coffee! During brunch! We had all ordered coffee and didn't get any refills. We kept asking for refills, and they said they would have to make individual americanos. That was fine with us, but it took about an hour to get one americano. I'm not sure why someone didn't run to the store and buy more coffee, but it was pretty disappointing. Luckily, the $3 mimosas and bloody mary's were flowing!
It is so nice to have a restaurant in the neighborhood of this quality.
Fresh pasta dishes are amazing!
The ricotta gnocchi was absolutely phenomenal. The ingredients were interesting but man, the flavor profile it created was incredible. I’ll be going out of my way to get this again!
We went to Stratford Proper for a birthday breakfast and were the only patrons in our section. The service was fantastic- extremely attentive but not overbearing. They were having trouble with their receipt printer and were very polite and concerned with our patron experience. The food was delicious, definitely a new brunch spot favorite. The basil hollandaise on the Benedict was delicious and I especially enjoyed the simplicity of the bruleed grapefruit.
I love this place but every time I am in there if there is a large party in the dining room, it is so loud you can't have a conversation. I was literally yelling across the table to answer a question. Love the food, but they really need to work on the acoustics. The noise level ruins the dining experience.
Stratford Proper is a must try! Our waiter "Easy E" provided the best restaurant service I have had in years. I am particularly observant when it comes to customer service because I grew up in the restaurant business, so this compliment goes a long way.
The food was extremly tasteful and the chef's were accommodating to our dietary needs- another star for customer service.
We will be back and can't wait to try other Proper establishments (which our waiter
went the extra mile to tell us about).
Lovely server, timing of questions/inquiries & drinks was great.
Food was very good and outside seating was fun. Good place to share several meals to try different food items
Had so much fun. Went there for a late evening dinner. Burger was incredible, the staff was dynamite! Karen was incredible and helped explain the menu very well along with good suggestions.
For sure my new go to!
We'll be coming back and bringing our friends. I took my wife here for her birthday and the experience hit all the notes we were looking for. We sat outside and the string-lighted patio gave a good ambiance to our dining. There was a little background noise from people waiting to be seated on the sidewalk next to the patio, but I understand Stratford Proper has little control over that.
We ordered drinks. My wife got a cocktail. I forget what, but it was gin based and lemony. She loved it, and I'd say it was pretty good based on the sip I took. I had the Gose on draft which was amazing. I love that Proper has backed this salty style of beer. The waitress told us about the seasonal beer, a "Beer Rose". My wife ordered a pint and loved it, and I was glad there was a $1.00 sample size. I wanted to try it, but after trying it was glad I didn't order a whole glass. Not my thing, but again my wife loved it.
We ordered Polenta fries which were a nice, hearty, but not overly filling starter. My wide got the amazing Ricotta Gnocchi and I got a classic Margherita Pizza. Ricotta Gnocchi was phenomenal and really savory. The Margherita pizza is a classic and they nailed all the notes with a wood-fired crust.
Our service was pleasant and friendly. We weren't in any type of a rush so we found the pace of service somewhere between hasty and too slow. If we had somewhere to be, maybe, maybe, we would have had a problem with pace. As it was, however, we were there to enjoy our time out.
We skipped dessert, but not without being heavily tempted. We won't be so strong-willed next visit.
Thanks Stratford Proper!
It’s been awhile since I’ve been somewhere to eat and been impressed. This place was so delicious. The hush puppies were SO good. Highly recommend!
The beers and cocktails were great! The food was fresh and tasty. We orders the polenta fries which I highly recommend for an app. The mushroom pizza was delicious and had great flavor. The shrimp pasta was ok. The pasta itself was very good but the shrimp was overcooked and tiny. The overall flavor of the pasta dish was good. We will definitely return for another wonderful dinner. 👍
Great service. New fall menu that include items with rock shrimp. Shrimp and grits were delicious. Dessert was amazing. Crispy bread pudding coated with rice crispies, drizzled in Carmel and sprinkled with salt. Amazing!
I did tell the server that I was gluten free and when my food came out it had croutons on the plate! Weird for a chicken dish. Normally I would say something but I just picked through the potatoes which are the same size and shape as the croutons
to find them and remove them from my dish. But other than that i think that this will be a great addition to the neighborhood.
My friends and I were SO impressed by everything at Stratford Proper. Our waitress was awesome and gave us some really good food recommendations. The food was all amazing—I’m still thinking about the polenta fries! And the restaurant was cute, had great background music, and just generally had a super chill atmosphere. I’ll be back for sure!
