Our Server Cameron was excellent as was the bartender Phillip. We had a great first experience.
Went to Strano at 5:45pm on a Sunday evening with a family of 5. There were only 2 other tables in the restaurant and our server took 15 minutes to get our drinks before even taking our dinner order. We had two young children with us who were very hungry. Service was very slow and food coming out of the kitchen was slow. There is no reason in a virtually empty restaurant for dinner to take 2 hours and for the customer to ask the server repeatedly where the food is. He didn't even put our entree orders into the kitchen until we were finished with our salads and apps which came out at the same time. After that it took another 20 minutes to get our entrees. In my opinion the kitchen is run extremely inefficiently, the wait staff is poorly trained and all in all the restaurant is poorly managed.
We loved Strano when it was in Cooper Young. It seems to have changed a lot and we were willing to give it a go in it's new location. We had tried it out when it first reopened and were not impressed, so we were somewhat reluctant, but nevertheless curious to see if it had gotten any better.
Unfortunately, we were not impressed. The restaurant is indeed classier and the location is fabulous. the service was spot-on and the noise level tolerable. But...the food? Isn't that what is supposed to be the attraction?
We were both disappointed and gave it a "meh" rating. My husband had the chicken caneloni and said that it was mushy and unappealing. There was too much sauce.
I had the chicken picatta, which I was really anticipating. My high hopes were dashed once I tasted the chicken. I have never had chicken picatta with so much breading. It was like having a fried chicken cutlet with capers. The linguine was over-cooked and the sauce was dull. The price is right, but the dish is not. All I could taste was the breading and the chicken was dry instead of moist like I expected. I scooped up the capers to try and get some flavor, but it just wasn't there.
It was a two-fer for us. We won't be going back and that make me sad.
Thank you excellent food and excellent service on March 6 when I joined several old friends for lunch. Extra thanks for my eggplant parm being available for lunch as requested! Everything was delicious and we plan to make this restaurant a regular place for our get-togethers!
Waiter was knowledgeable and very helpful, wonderfully relaxed atmosphere for a family night out and all the food was great, servings were generous, we all left with a to go box
No one greeted me upon arrival. Had a reservation, but didn’t seem to matter. Went to the bar where I could see an employee to get waited on. Service was slow. Food was tasty, but cold. Kitchen employee stood at the end of the bar eating bread. Bar tender continued to reference he was training someone as an excuse for slow service. Overall disappointed, I would not recommend this place based on my first experience.
Bread service with the pesto was so good! Loved the chicken pesto pizza!
My wife and I felt like the restaurant was an over priced pizza joint. Nothing real special about it for the costs.
This will be our last trip to Strano. Our original trip was very good a little more than a year ago, we have returned twice. The quality of food and service have degraded to unacceptable. It was no better than fast food Italian. I predict they will exit the business in the months to come. Chef Josh needs to take control or abandon.
We got to the restaurant about 6:15 for our 6:30 reservation. We were told our table was not ready yet so we went to the bar and they would come get us. At 6:42 I went to check on our table. I was told “oh, no one came to get you”? Once seated for dinner we ordered the meatball/sauce appetizer. It was at best a “luke warm” temperature.. Less than 10 minutes later it was room temperature. We are ordered our entree when the meatballs came. It took a long time for our entrees to be brought. Two other tables that were seated after us, and they were brought their entrees before we got ours.. My wife’s shrimp pasta dinner and my salmon dinner were also just luke warm. Our waiter was nice enough but not the most responsive. For our first trip to Strano I would rate it a C or at the very most C+.
Very good staff. Very clean. Food came out quickly
Entirely disappointed in this dining experience. Our Valentines Day Reservation was for 8:15pm, and right off the bat, we waited 7 or 8 minutes for a server to come by before going back to alert the hostess. He arrived shortly afterward and redeemed himself by being quite helpful despite the negative first impression. My first course smoked portabello appetizer was so tiny that my husband and I laughed about it.... literally what appeared to be 1/4 of a very small portabello (so, a chunk) with some scattered watercress greens and a small dollop of balsamic – infused caviar. I joked to our server about the kitchen running out of portobello, and he noted that it had been a very busy night, but did not deny it. Hubby’s corn chowder app was good. Second course wedge salads were thankfully good. Then, minutes before our main course was to be served, we were informed that they ran out of the NY Strip steak (one of only three meal options, due to the prix fixe menu) and would my husband like fish or chicken. After an emphatic “No, I really wanted the steak” our server went back to the kitchen and came back to say they’d found him a tenderloin they agreed to substitute. It was good, but arrived rare instead of med-rare and needed to be sent back and cooked up. My airline chicken breast was not good — no trace of the Brie that was supposed to be inside and terribly dried out. Definitely overcooked. While the side dishes were good, they were disappointingly the highlight of my meal instead of the main course. Although we appreciated the tenderloin substitution, it was hard to justify paying $65 per person, before drinks, for what we received on what was supposed to be a special occasion. I doubt we will return — and definitely never again on Valentines Day.
The food was excellent. We went for the 4 course dinner for Valentine's Day. I would recommend the restaurant. We intend to go back and try their regular menu.
Normally, food is good. But Valentine's day meal was a little disappointed. Corn Chowder good, Oysters Rockefeller in shell was not warm. Strip Sirloin was asked for med rare but came out medium to well. Choc mouse desert was good.
I was highly disappointed in the service I received on Valentine's Day. The food was subpar, my entree was cold once it arrived to my table, and the waitress barely attended to my table during dinner YET received an automatic 20% gratuity that was added to the bill. To say I was disappointed was truly an understatement.
Valentine's Day dinner was excellent. Each of the four courses were well prepared and served in a timely manner without feeling like we were being rushed. The price was very reasonable considering the quality and portions. This was our first visit and we will return.
I haven't been there for their regular menu service, but if it's as good as the special menu, a trip will be worth it.
Staff was cordial, friendly and personable from the moment we walked in. Only issue I had was the room temperature which was quite chilly.
Entrees very disappointing — I ordered a New York strip and asked for it to be Medium and it came back rare — literally cool, red and translucent center. Wife ordered mahi mahi and it was over salted and way overcooked. Everything else was average at best, so I was a little bummed out by how much we paid.
We went on Valentines and knew there was a fixed menu. However, we were not advised that the price was fixed at $65 without wine pairing and $90 with wine pairing. Fixed menu does not equal price fix, unless advised. The portion of first course were small. Second course was a wedge Salad or oysters... I don’t like either. Entree was a baked chicken breast (definitely not worth $65). Dessert was a home run. Now, for the gross part. The bathroom was filthy. There was mold in the toilet and the back of the toilet was dirty with dirt and hair. It was beyond gross, and certainly not what you would expect. We were seated at 5:00, so they can’t use the excuse they were busy. It obviously had not been cleaned for a while. Would not recommend.
Excellent good. Good portion
Absolutely delicious food!
Service could be improved and decor seems dated.
Dinner before going to the Orpheum. The food was incredible! We’ll definitely be back, there are so many other dishes on the menu we want to try!
Pricey for the quality of food and drinks. Avoid brunch. Dinner may be better.
We walked in to no one at the hostess stand during the lunch hour. Finally someone acknowledged us. Service was poor, food was below average & seeing the waiter put his thumb in my friend’s salad and still serve while the kitchen staff went out front to have a smoke did not help!! We won’t return.
Dining room was closed, so we were forced to take our “reservation” at the bar. Service was slow with only the bartender working in the front. Everything about the place was awkward and we did not feel welcomed there.
House salads were not as described on the menu. They were just plates of kale. There were four in our party and one of us finally received their meal 10 minutes after the other three.
Loved loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, the scenery and the food was delicious. Plenty of options based on the menu, most definitely would be back again.
Party of 4 for a girl’s get together for a birthday. We sat in the bar area and there was maybe only 1 table in the dining room. It was a Wednesday night. Service for food was extremely slow. The charcuterie plate we ordered for an appetizer took at least 30 mins to bring out. It was pretty good. I ordered the spinach manicotti and was told 20 mins after I ordered that they were out of manicotti and I needed to reorder. Not wanting to make the others at the table wait for their dinner, I then ordered just a plain Caesar salad and it was a little dry. My friends had steaks and chicken rollatini. The chicken was ice cold and the Brussels sprouts that we had ordered extra of, were burnt. After reheating, my friend said the rollatini was horrible. They didn’t charge me for the salad but they also did nothing for my friends birthday. They did tell her happy birthday so they did know the occasion.
We will definitely not be back. What happened Chef Josh?
This place will be closing soon.
Poor service & food was just ok. Mediterranean Salad was very salty. Desert was stale.
We went for brunch on a Sunday and we seemed to beer the rush at 11:30. When we left it was much busier. Every thing we ate was amazing. I can not wait to go back to try something new. I almost didn’t put butter on my biscuit but thankfully I did and it was like dessert it was so good!!
We enjoyed the New Years Day brunch! The eggs benni with filet mignon were to die for. Seriously delicious. The Bloody Mary was just what I needed to start the new year off on the right foot. It was so well balanced with the kick that I requested. The bacon was served nice and crispy. My friend ordered the burger with the works medium rare and it came out hot and cooked just as he loves it. It was cheesy and juicy and well seasoned. The fries were clearly never frozen. They were hand sliced and house made and well seasoned which made them addictive. We ordered a second portion they were so good. The prices were very reasonable. The decor is warm and inviting. The service was a solid 10!
Overall great. There was a reservation mixup, but they offered to take care of our pre-dinner cocktail bill.
No notice that there was a price fix for NYE. The food was pretty good nevertheless, but the servers know they don’t have to try very hard when they’re guaranteed a large tip. The worst aspect was the ambiance. Bright lights, barely audible music. A very poor NYE experience. Felt like Applebee’s
We dined on New Year's Eve and had a very good dinner and a very good experience. The service was attentive and the food was excellent. We look forward to returning so that we can try other items on the menu. The grilled caesar salad, pretzel encrusted salmon and NY strip steak were all excellent. The value was also very good, especially for New Year's Eve. We had a 4-course meal with bread and a bottle of wine for under $150!
My husband and I had a relaxing New Year's Eve Dinner here. We came early because my husband uses a wheelchair and we wanted to avoid crowds. We each ordered different options on the fixed 4 course meal and enjoyed all of it. Happy to say the staff was very attentive and the atmosphere was not loud like many restaurants are now days. We will definitely be coming here more often.
They had a fixed menu on Christmas eve, we did not know that until we arrived.
Open table should have let us know. The noise level was very high, the service was slow.
The food was very good even with the limited selection and there was plenty of it. My family and I were able to eat about half of our entrees. We all asked our waiter for to go boxes. Instead of boxes, he threw out our left overs!
No one was happy.
Dining at Strabo Christmas Eve with my family was a great experience. The prix fixe menu of $55 was a bargain for what was available. The first course was either a marinated vegetable salad (which in my option was to heavy on the red onions, and could have used more greens, but was nonetheless tasty), and a tuscan soup made of beans, butternut squash, and kale. This soup was incredibly hearty, and paired with a salad would have been enough of a meal by itself. The second course was either a brie served with crostini, or a butternut squash risotto. The Brie was artfully presented with a sauce of cranberries, and the risotto was an incredibly rich dish that again, by itself paired with a green vegetable, could have been a filling meal. The entree’s were where the value comes in. A choice of either a lasagna bolognase, which was pretty standard fare, or a Cornish game hen stuffed with boudin, paired with a sweet potato gratin and toasted Brussels sprouts. The game hen was enormous, and would have been enough for two people. The final entree option was a hearty Cioppino, served with some crostini. The dessert options included cookies and milk, but the real star was the struffoli, basically Italian donut holes drizzled with honey and fruit. Everyone at the table raves about them. I have never had such a delightful feast the night before Christmas, And look forward to continuing our tradition of Strabo at the holidays. Well done!
Great brunch, nice quiet relaxed atmosphere, service was good but our waiter was a little too busy flirting with other servers/waitresses to come check on our refills, etc.
I consider myself (and my friends) regulars at Strano's brunch. We typically eat there 1 Sunday a month and have always had great food and service. This past month has been a 180. I decided to bring in my entire family for a graduation Sunday since I'm always raving about the bottomless mimosa brunch. We were a party of 9, and 6 of us weren't satisfied with our food. I personally didn't even eat mine. Three of us ordered the chicken biscuit (which I've had in the past). It was 2 small hockey puck biscuits that couldn't be cut with a knife and a small nugget size piece of chicken. The sausage/bacon bowl was cold. The zeppoles were also dry and overcooked. We had a side of eggs requested over hard, and they were nothing but runny. Three of us paid extra to enjoy the bottomless mimosa special, and in a 2 hour period of time received 2 mimosas. It took our waitress 40 minutes to split up and close our checks. My bill was $71 (for 2 of us). I don't know if I've every been so sick over spending that amount of money on something. I had to go to a nearby restaurant afterwards to finally eat. After planning a special day for my sister's graduation, I was embarrassed. We won't be back. As well as my friends who all have had their own poor experiences this past month at Strano, won't be back.
