Strand Bistro at Marriott Vacation Club Pulse Ratings and Reviews
Chef Kelvin's Arrepas arrepas and more arrepas is all I have to say. They are to die for. For people who haven't tried it, they are missing out. Tuna tartare was delicious. But the truffle mac and cheese was out of this world!! I'm not talking about truffle oil, it came with white truffle shavings. Like omg!! My parents ordered the rib eye and it was cooked to perfection. My brother had the stuffed chicken and wow it was full of flavor. I had the skirt steak and It also was cooked to perfection. Now to the dessert, the coconut flan and the chocolate cake was devoured. William our server made our experience enjoyable and was very attentive. And of course having chef kelvin come over to the table was the cherry on top.
We were staying at the Pulse for our first time and needed to have an early dinner before a show. Wow is all I can say. We were very pleased with the whole dinner. Awesome Short Rib appetizer, great salad, wonderfully prepared Bronzino. Yes, great desert as well. If you are staying at the Pulse - don't think twice. The Chef is excellent!
The food is fantastic! The ambiance is beautiful. Chef Kelvin's Arepas are exquisite and probably the best arepas I've ever had. You must save room for dessert because the coconut flan is to DIE FOR!! I truly had an amazing experience from start to finish. The service was absolutely superb. Chef Kelvin you are brilliant!!
Went with a party of 4, all had different dishes. Waitress very good at making recommendations and providing a history of the new chef. Chef has a signature appetizer which was excellent. I had hamburger, described as excellent by staff, but I would not go that far. Friend had chicken which was reported as excellent. Based on inability to provide a great hamburger, I didn't rate this very well. Would not go out of my way to go there again.
NIce comfortable space. Very helpful and professional staff. Outstandingly prepared food. Nice attention to detail. We had 3 different entrees all of them were delicious. Kevin Fernandez's Arepas was as delcious as I've read and heard. His Cocunut Flan dessert is something not to be missed. We will definitely go back. This is a gem of a place. Don't let the fact that it is in a hotel vacation residence scare you off.
My colleagues and I were staying at a hotel next door and were looking for a good place for dinner nearby. I opened the OpenTable app and saw this place was right next door and it had good ratings. We were really pleased with the entire experience. The staff were efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. The decor and atmosphere were great. I highly recommend having a drink at the rooftop lounge before heading back down to the ground floor for dinner.
This was the best meal we have had in 2016.
There wasn't a tasting menu option but i kindly asked if the chef can accommodate and thankfully he did. Arepas, Squash soup, Salmon, Chicken Flan everything was incredible. He came out and explained every course and davina was sensational!
From the minute I Stepped in everyone was so pleasant. The bartenders Moscow mule was great and Chef Kelvin's food was absolutely perfection! From appetizers, to the main entree to the dessert! We first opted out of dessert but he wouldn't let us leave without trying something and boy am I happy he changed our minds! I have already recommended this place to my friends. THANK YOU for an amazing Friday night experience.
Comfortable and attractive restaurant with good service. Our dinner was delicious. I had the steak and fries. Delicious! The only thing that annoyed me was when we first got to the restaurant we asked for bread and butter, which we would expect to get in any restaurant and we were shocked when the waitress said they don't serve bread. I have never been told that before in any restaurant. Oh well!
The food is so wonderful here. I have been twice now and enjoyed every bite. However both times I went I had the same server, who to be quite honest some what made our evening not as good as it could have been. He disappeared for very long periods of time, before and after we ordered. As well as screwed up some of our order. That part was very unfortunate. But I will still return and request a different server if need be. Chef Kelvin's arepas are out of this world. The salmon, rib eye and tuna tartare are also at the top of my list. Along with the dessert. I am a huge chocolate cake fan and it was perfect. I still want to try the chicken dish so I will definitely be returning for that. Just hoping for better service. It can make all the difference.
Never expected to have an outstanding dinner (and breakfasts) prepared by an acclaimed executive chef, at a small hotel.....but did we ever! Marriott's Chef Kelvin Fernandez at their Pulse hotel in NYC is a passionate and personable young man, who believes food should be simple, but also should be a combination of flavors and textures. Or simply "a party in your mouth", he explained!
His truffle mac and cheese, for example, is an exquisite "simple" dish that is unlike any mac and cheese I have ever had. And his salmon entree was the best meal I have had in a very long time. My wife's crispy chicken stuffed with cheese and spinach was equally great. The menu offers "small bite" and "big bite" appetizers, as well as various entrees. Breakfast selections are also outstanding, and all are deserving of a try. Served in a very cozy and comfortable dining atmosphere. But better get there soon to try it out, since the good news is spreading fast and his reputation is blossoming!
went to experience the dining experience by myself and had an awesome time. I loved the relaxed feel and look of the place. The music was nice not loud. The service was great. I especially enjoyed the food. I had a thick delicious tasting salmon The appetizer and the dessert was to die for. Overall amazing. The timing was right on point. Chef Kelvin is an amazing chef
I came here with a friend to celebrate her birthday, and I'm so glad we did. The food and ambiance here are absolutely amazing. I had the skirt steak and it was cooked to perfection. My friend had the salmon and she loved it. We shared the chef's arepas and they are devine. He beat Bobbly Flay with those arepas and I can see why! We finished our meal with delicious coconut flan, and it was the perfect ending to our night. If you want to go somewhere with impressive food and a great atmosphere, this is definitely the place to be. Chef Kelvin came out himself tableside despite him being busy. It was a special touch for sure. I cannot recommend the place enough. A definite must try!!!!
wait staff were just phenomenal. Traffic delayed our reservations and there was no problem when we arrived. From moment we walked in we were treated like we were regulars. While waiting for our main course we ordered multiple sample appetizers that were out of this world. Dinner was served and portion was perfect and food was delicious. There's not one complaint about this establishment. If you're looking for a pleasant, romantic dinner before a show or any occasion, please visit the Strand. My girlfriend and I recommend it !
we met the chef at the Owners social. Was intrigued by his story, passion and kindness. we came in for dinner and were blown away. he was kind enough to stop by our table numerous times to make sure everything was perfect. The Hotel is Lucky to have such a talented and passionate individual. HOLD ON TO HIM!
we will be back!
I wanted to make my anniversary special and I'm glad that I chose this place not only because of the decor and ambiance, it was because they had AREPAS! Not just any regular arepa you've tried. Chef Kelvins arepas are to die for. I mean he did beat Bobby Flay for a reason and that speaks volume. As soon as my girlfriend took one bite she was like "OMG" we need to order another order which we did. The tuna tartare was delicious we were even contemplating on ordering another one. The pork belly sliders on a potato bun!! do I need to say more! Amazing. Mind you this was just appetizers. Now on to the main course the rib eye was cooked perfectly ( medium rare) the yuca croquettes were delicious ( I'm not a fan of yuca but I devoured them) my girlfriend had the salmon which once again was cooked perfectly and the pineapple gastrique gave it so much flavor which I've never had before. The dessert we had the coconut flan which was explosive with flavor not to thick or dry juts perfect and because it was our anniversary they gave us the cheesecake spring rolls which I must say was an interesting dessert because I've never seen something like that before but it was great, the graham crackers caramel streusel gave it a great touch. Everything was amazing and what was the cherry on top was that Chef Kelvin goes around to each table and gives them this warm welcoming which I must say not many chefs do that. So he made our anniversary much more special. We will definitely be here again and I'll be spreading the word. Great job.
One bite was better than the last. Chef Kelvin is a star. Always try the Chef's Specialty. However, you cannot make a bad selection here. Go with people who like to share so you can try more culinary delights. We also loved the cozy settings especially the library.
Arepas, Areaps, Arepas, Have been to the strand bistro a few times because I enjoy the ambiance, the fish tank and the food but its been a few years since I've been back because of inconsistency and changes of chef but once I heard the original chef came back there was a reason to come back. Must try Prawns, Mac and Cheese Salmon, Rib eye, Flan Cheesecake Springrolls. That's what we ordered and excited to come back for more...
Third time here and all have been positive. All of the staff were friendly, attentive and professional .Food was excellent, as were the drinks and wine My wife and I went to celebrate our anniversary . The Arepas were some of the best I have ever had so good we ordered another round!
The Strand Bistro is very cozy and comfortable. There are some couch - lounge seats in the front of the restaurant, the bar, and then table seating in the back. The drinks at the bar were great and the bartender (Brandon) is friendly and accommodating. The dining experience itself was memorable with a friendly and attentive staff and the most warm and talented Chef. Chef Kelvin was making rounds to make sure everyone was having a nice time and enjoying their meals. The food was superb, especially of course his signature crispy Arepas. We also had the truffle mac and cheese appetizer, with the pasta done just right. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and I am looking forward to returning with family and friends.
Comfortable, Cozy and sexy all in one, the fire place, the fish tank the warm service (davina) was just right for our special occasion. We came off of the New Chef posting on Instagram and have been following him at all his locations. We are happy he is back in midtown where he belongs. The Arepas are sensational! And the truffle mac and cheese (with Real truffles) is decedent. My fiancé an I will continue to come here on a regular basis. Keep up the great work
Such an amazing time, Came here with my girlfriend she loved it all! we had the Arepas which was the best thing I ever tasted in my life!! Truffle mac with fresh truffles, Crispy chicken and Lemon Salmon both very pretty and tasted amazing! MUST Try the flan at the end levels of different flavors! Great job
I selected the Strand for breakfast because it was halfway between our hotel and Penn Station on a bitterly cold Sunday and their menu looked interesting. I have to say there was nothing special about it, especially for the price. The restaurant was empty, yet they seated us at a small table right near the door. The bill was $65 for two for a very ordinary breakfast, so I wouldn't recommend it.
This past week a group of us gathered for dinner at the Strand Bistro before going to the Boccelli concert at Madison Square Garden. The food was great , the staff was polite and very friendly and the atmosphere there was very relaxing. We started off with
amazingly terrific Appetizers , to include Brussells sprouts ,mushrooms and tuna tartar . Our main course of steaks and lamb chops couldn't be better. Afterwards we ventured up to the bar for cocktails and the scene there was lots of fun.
