About Straits Restaurant - Santana Row
Singapore for almost 200 years has been at the crossroads of Southeast Asia, where many cultures and nationalities live, work and more importantly, eat together. Singapore's cuisines logically reflect this cultural diversity. The four major culinary cultures -- Malaysian/Indonesian, Chinese, Indian and Nonya -- are in fact a blend of each other, creating a new cuisine that is unique and more complex in flavors and fragrances. Straits offers a menu that features the complexity of all these Singaporean cuisines in chef Chris Yeo's unique interpretation. This beautiful Santana Row location opened in January 2003.

Straits Restaurant - Santana Row Ratings and Reviews
Easily booked a reservation for a party of 6 for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner. They followed my special instructions of a table away from the lounge area for a quieter dinner. Food is always excellent and comes out quickly. Always a go-to for special occasions. They even cut the cake I brought in and served with plates.
Great location on Santana Row filled with upscale shops to browse before and after dinner. Had reservations and were seated fairly quickly although for a part of 2, only allowed us to sit at a 2-top, not at the 4-top requested. VERY LOUD but very energetic. Attractive, young crowd. Waited 15 minutes for server but once our order was placed, delivered in less than 10 minutes. Family style portions, meant to be shared.
Food was amazing! Highly recommend for true foodies. Will return and have already recommended. 5 stars.
Had reservations for 630pm but couldn’t make it till 7pm. Called prior n they were accommodating to make the time change.
Tried this restaurant awhile back n it was NOT good, so I was pretty hesitant to trying it again. Regardless, since they have reopened, thought give it another chance.
We were pleasantly surprised! Ordered the following:-
1) Apple & Jicama Salad (nicely flavored n refreshing)
2) Chicken Satay (the peanut sauce was delicious!)
3) Fried Calamari (this was ok. Ordered this for our boy but it had a little spice to it which he didn’t like)
4) Chicken Curry (mostly white meat n tastes ok)
5) Beef Rendang (this was ok but tastes sweet which was weird)
6) Singapore Prawns ( the Prawns was tasty. Chilli sauce tastes more like a sweet & sour sauce + comes with fried mantou which our boy liked)
7) Shaking Beef (V salty. My least favorite. Asked for medium well but it was still pretty red)
8) Jasmine Rice
9) Coconut Bon Bon (this was delicious!)
10) Mango With tapioca sago pudding (refreshing)
11) Chocolate Lava Cake (v well made!)
Overall the food was good. However, if you are looking for spicy food, this isn’t the place.
Very good fusion Asian style leaning on “Singapore Straits” meaning it’s a mix of East Asian styles. Creative and tasty but a bit on the spicey side for me...however I doubt it’s too spicey for most folks...
Fun environment family friendly yet active bar ...
We had a large group of ladies and we had a few requests and changes through out the evening. Straits staff accommodated our every need with a smile on their face and willingness to help. Nothing was too difficulty for them. They probably spoke about us behind scenes on what a pain our table was? Haha! But to us, they were so helpful and pleasant. They made for a very special night as we had a friend from out of town visiting who we all hadn’t seen for a long time. Only complaint was the level of noise and music, as we could not hear each other. But they accommodated us on that by finding a table outside. Best service I have had for a long time. And I eat out at nice places a lot! Thank-you to your staff
Really horrible service. Took forever. They waited until everyone in my large party was served (which took a total of 40 mins to do) to tell one person in my party what they ordered that had run out of. Drinks took 20 minutes to come every round. Really bad. Don’t take a big group!
This was my 3rd time to Straits. The food is always tasty, it's the overall service that I feel is lacking. The hostess sat us promptly, the server checked in quickly and took drink orders. It's the food delivery that needs help. Each meal came out individually, with a 15 minute gap between the first and last person served. If you're polite and wait for everyone to be served before dining, person #1 ends up with an under-temp dinner.
After 3 visits to this restaurant I am confident that this is SOP for Straits.
It's not such a deterrent that I wouldn't go back, but it is something that I wish they would address.
Absolutely a terrible dining experience. We had a work dinner with 9 people.
We started by ordering one of each of all the small plates. Those were great and came out quickly. Drinks were slow and some just went directly to the bar to order.
We each ordered a main dish and that's where the problems began. One person got their food very quick, 30 minutes later a couple more. To be polite, those that were served waited until everyone was served. Another 30 minutes go by, some of us start eating and others send theirs back to the kitchen to be re-fired.
They actually brought someone who had already received there meal a second one. Meanwhile, three people had still not received their food.
There was also a very drunk person wondering the restaurant harassing guests.
We did let the staff know that things were not going well. That did not seem to change anything.
On our way out, the entire front of house staff was huddled behind the reception desk. I asked if they were just going to let the drunk person harass everyone or ask him to leave. They said they called security. Once outside the restaurant, sure enough, six security guards standing there. Apparently waiting for something.
Sorry, will never be back to this restaurant ever again, that's how bad it was. Sometimes things happen and mistakes occur, but this experience was just a whole new level.
absolutely love this place. the food is amazing - and the staff are really nice. 2 things though - its incredibly slow in service, like Painfully slow. We had our entrees before we had our cocktails. We also waited 15 mins before our order was taken. The noise, while I love a vibrant bar scene. the music is too loud, so loud - I have to shout to my husband sitting next to me on a sofa - at 7pm on a saturday. I just don't understand why the music has to be so loud. I am not fogey or anything, but there are limits to how loud the music should be at like 7pm. 10pm? sure, turn it up, but man... my hears hurt.
It was my friend's birthday dinner so I made the reservation thinking it would be a fun place to go. I had only been for drinks before so wasn't sure what to expect dinner-wise. It took a while to order drinks, and then even longer to eventually order food. My reservation was at 8:15 and we didn't get to eat until about 9:30, which seems excessive. It then took a while to get the check, then we sat for a full half hour after giving our cards waiting to get them back so we could sign our receipts and leave. We sat from 8:15-10:40 pm overall, with most of that time being waiting. We didn't even see our waitress frequently enough to have more drinks within that timeframe. The food was good and came quickly once our orders had been taken, and the place has a fun and trendy ambience , but I would probably not come back for dinner due to the slow service.
We had a reservation for a table, but moved to the lounge area to take advantage of the happy hour menu, which is not your typical food for drinking menu. The small plates on that menu are a fantastic value, artfully prepared and amazingly delicious--vegetarian spring rolls, samosas, Kobe beef slider buns, etc. Great finger food and easy to eat in the lounge area! You can also order from the main dinner menu. We had the Kurobota ribs and the Shanghai noodles. Four appetizer sized plates and two mains with 3-4 cocktails ran about $130 including gratuity. I didn't see the happy hour menu on Sino's website when I wrote this review, so I hope it's still there. This was a perfect pre-movie dinner!
Food was good tasty however three of us ordered same item all came out at different times added rice to the order it came out after we were done eating. Server did not pay attention had to request to send back several items received wrong. This was a birthday celebration.
The food was amazing, but the service was horrendous. We had to ask for our drinks multiple times because the server kept forgetting to bring them. She subsequently charged us each time we asked her where our drinks were, even though they did not arrive. She basically ignored us and took forever to take our order, get the check, etc. I would love to eat the food again, but I don't think I'll go back because of the terrible service.
Food/service/ambiance was great. Love that they had a patio which was heated because father in law did get quite chilly. Yelp reviews weren't so good but unsure why because we all thought food was really good. We had the paratha ( it was divine), shrimp spring roles ( was good but not favorite), spicy basil chicken, chicken satay, shrimp fried rice, vegetarian green curry with Brussels sprout, salmon with banana leaf and All was absolutely delicious! Our server was great. Kids loved her esp because she had dyed purple hair. I wouldn't say it was "kid friendly" in the traditional sense but they were very welcoming to my 4 and 6 year old boys. It can definitely be a dress down restaurant. We came vey dressed down but everyone was very nice and welcoming. It for sure nice place to get dressed up and to hit the bars/club after.
We went to Straits for my husband's birthday. We had a terrible experience.
The evening started out great. We had a nice attentive waiter. He took our drink orders right away and gave us some time to look at menu. Everything went downhill after they had a shift change. Our first order of a beef dish arrived cold and did not taste good. Our new server took it back. All she said was sorry. After we decided on a new dish, seafood curry, it came out as veggie curry. The server said "oh sorry". At this point we were through! Also, the new server never once came to ask if we wanted to order more drinks. The only good and correct items we had were the drinks (only got the chance to have 1 since we were never given the chance to order another one) and a bowl of noodles.
We were so disappointed with the service and food, we will never return again.
