Some dishes were very good but a couple were not. Shaking beef was very tough and inedible. Garlic noodles were overcooked and oily. The service was spotty and non-attentive. Drinks were very good though.
We had a wonderful dinner. Our server Stacy was very attentive and helpful
Look forward to our next dinner out
A change of pace from what we're used to in the LA/OC area. The food was flavoful, not uncomfortably spicy. The portions were meant for sharing, making it a little difficult for a party of 2 to try more than a handful of items from the menu. A table for two was too small for the number of serving plates being sent from the kitchen. Would definitely go again.
Though there were critics of the service in prior reviews, our servers were pleasant and efficient, not fawning. (Your standards are much higher in the Bay Area!)
The food was very good, but the music was way too loud. We could barely hear our server or ourselves at dinner. Overall a good meal experience due to the food quality.
Ordered cocktails and asked for a salad before several entrees. Everything arrived at once . Beef rendang only fat and gristle. Very disappointed.
I was very disappointed with the service. We had a group of 8 people and they brought all of our food out at differents times, which was at least 15 minutes apart. That is totally unacceptable in my opinion. The rest of the party had to wait until the final meal was brought out to begin eating.
slow service, part of order took an hour to get, mistakeny overcharged me by $35, they did provide a refund.
Very nice and good vegetarian options. Excellent appetizers. Very good service.
Took 1.2 hours to get seated even though we has a reservation. Just checked bank account and server added $5 more tip effectively stealing.
Never going back.
Food was great as usual. Service was a bit slow due to the crowdedness and lesser than adequate amount of staff. The noise level was high being a Saturday evening with a live DJ. But all in all a very good experience at Straits as usual.
We visited Straits with a large group (14 people) and were promptly seated. After we arrived, service was not very good. We had told the waiter to split the bill between groups before we started and he decided to give us the full bill and acted as if he wasn't able to split the bill. Dishes piled up, water wasn't refilled, and entrees came out unorganized. One of our friends had to wait 15 minutes for his meal after everyone received their dinners. Unfortunately, it felt like we were an inconvenience to them and all they wanted was our money. Unfortunate to see restaurants these days not take care of their patrons.
Amazing food, great quality and variety. I like the selection of small plates that you can share and therefore try more dishes.
Two of us for dinner. We ordered two cocktails and the flatbread appetizer. The food came way before the drinks. Once the food server finally returned (she tried to take the menus before we even placed an order), we ordered two appetizers, fried rice and sea bass. The fried rice came first. The sea bass came about 10 minutes after the rice. One of the appetizers (after complaining) showed up about 15 minutes after the sea bass. One of the appetizers never showed up. I asked to speak with a manager. He showed up 10 minutes later. He was happy to say he took the appetizers off (REALLY---one showed up after we were done with dinner and the other never showed----who wants to eat tuna tartare at the end of a meal) and took off the flatbread. $9 bucks. Big deal!!! I will NEVER EVER go back here again and I used to love this place.
The food was very good, but the restaurant seemed under staffed for a busy Saturday night. We waited quite a while to be seated despite having a reservation. Then it took a while for a waiter to come. She was very pleasant but our salads arrived before our wine, then our entrees were delivered very soon after the salads. Timing of the service was bad. There was some obnoxious techno music playing in the main dining room, and even though we had a patio table, it was impossible to escape the throbbing beat. Maybe this is just a better restaurant for young people.
We had a reservation for dinner and reached on time. The hostess made us wait for 30 mins for our table. The manager cleaned up a table for us but the hostess ended up giving up our table to walk in customers. We finally decided to go with another option after they asked us to wait for some more time. Very bad management lacking proper communication between themselves.
The food was great - our waitress was very nice - the only issue we had was they were so much in a hurry to pull out the curtains and close the patio - that they didn't care if we were done with our food. That annoyed us. If the food was not worth it - would probably not go back.
Food was outstanding, but server was clearly stretched and not paying attention to details, orders and was forgetful. Adrian was very nice, but forgot to bring 3 drinks after 2 requests, 1 dish and our celebratory dessert for our Friendaversary that we like to do every year. Underwhelmed, but the food taste and quality made up for it. Sad to have not gotten what I crave...enough lychee martinis
Decent option in Ssntana row. Personally, I like Sino better as they offer a few more vegetarian options.
Fantastic food! Great place whether you are a family or just out without the kids!!
I booked a table 2 months prior for a birthday celebration group on Sept 21 in Santana Row Straits. 6 of us in the group, we get there on time, and one waitress gives our reserved table away. The front desk then says wait for 15 minutes & we'll look to get you all another table. We waited for 25 minute & a second waitress sat another party there right in front of our eyes. The front desk says "oh yeah there was a mix up by that waitress, that really was your table". It was my birthday, I come here every year with a group & the service was the worst I have seen & yes we all form the tech companies eat out quite a lot so I will not be looking at Straits in a positive way. after another 15 minutes, a total 40-45 minutes after our original reserved time we got a table in the noisiest section & were seated. The staff was informed it was for my birthday & the treatment & service sucked. We order quite a few dishes & the Basil chicken curry never arrived even after 4 reminders to the waitress in a 90 minute period. We came there to 1) celebrate 2) get seated on time 3) eat what we ordered 4) catch up with each other- needless to say- we could not 1) enjoy due to the table give aways 2) were seated 45 minutes later than reservation 3) our curry order never came 4) and we could not chat due to the ridiculous music volume and dim lighting---let me see what this restaurant has to say to make this up to me- I was the birthday girl.
We ordered the chicken bbq. But it tasted nothing like bbq. My food came out and we already finished it but my dates food never came out. So we practically shared.
Straits is usually very good, however, on this trip, it was mediocre. We ordered a few different shared plates, and the server decided to deliver them all at once, rather than staggering the delivery, which made our small 2-person table extremely crowded. Butter chicken was great, but the sea bass was just okay. Meh...
Unfortunately three menu items were not available upon ordering. The waiter did a very good job explaining away. But he had no knowledge as we were placing the order . He will return each time and say very apologetically that’s not available. Until it became a small joke. Much like the ice cream machine at McDonald’s. Unfortunately we drove a little over 95 miles to come to this restaurant and were very disappointed. The menu choices we did end up with were not bad. The service was great. From the hostess to the waiter.
Thank you Straits! We always enjoyed dining with you.
Great place with nice ambience and good service. Food is average, and waiters are late once in a while.
Steak was way over cooked. Meat dishes comes first and had to wait 10 mins for the rice.
Need more vegetarian choices. Server was polite and nice but was too busy. Too many tables were assigned to him.
Excellent food and service. Christian was.Great!
The food was good but the service was very ordinary for the price of the meal. We ordered a salad to start and 2 hot dishes to share family style. The first hot dish came about 5 minutes after the salad. The second hot dish came about 5 -10 minutes after that, so the hot dishes got cold while we ate our salad. Didn't get much attention from the server, who only took the order but didn't do much else. There are lots of good places out there at this price point so wouldn't go back.
Food and drinks used to be great. Must have new management or chefs. What a waste of money
The food was superb and the ambiance is so trendy
Our server, Yvonne is so friendly and made sure we got everything we wanted. She made recommendations on the food and we’re so pleased we got them.
Thanks again, Yvonne for having a good customer service !!
Food wasn't that great. Many of us were sick with the stomach issues the next day so we could only assume it was the food we shared for appetizers etc...we spend about $700.00 entertaining my team from work and pretty disappointed. Pretty sad to spend that much money and be physically sick the next day. Not happy at all.
They turned on the lights at 10 pm as a "hint" for us to leave. They indicated that the Salmon dish is very mild (i.e., not spicy) when it was hot. We asked for a replacement, and they still charged us. We asked them to remove from the bill and they did.
The service was horrible. We had to ask for everything twice, at least. Dishes were served with no spoons. We had to ask passing servers for each item, including water, rice, spoons and the bill, as our server was Mia. Closer to finishing the meal, serve came to ask us whether everything was fine and didn't wait for an answer. We will never go there again.
Our server was fantastic!
I used to eat at Straits at least once per week.
Last week I had lunch with my friend there and I am kind of disappointed with the food I ordered. The food was not as good as before and wasn't very hot. Not sure if I want to go back again.
Service was slow, as well as the server being inattentive. I was charged for an item I did not receive as well. I also had to walk up to the register to obtain my bill in which the server did not properly return my credit card. Water cups were never refilled although they were obviously empty. Disappointed with the service and the food was okay.
I tried new items from their menu. Ordered 2 small plates- roti prata and wok fired mussels and spicy street noodles with shrimp. The mussels lacked flavor and were too undercooked for me. The spicy noodles tasted like ketchup. I should have stuck to my usual items. And our waiter was too busy to notice that he charged us for steamed rice we never had. The atmosphere and adult vibes are fun, and I will probably go back for drinks in the future. But not for food.
Worst service ever!!!! Have been here many times and it seems every visit gets worse. Made reservations for a 8 for a 50th birthday. Got there on time and was given a table in the very back room with no ambiance eve after I reserved a table in the main room they said it wasn't available . The waiter came, took drink orders and about 30 minutes later we got our drinks. He "Christopher" took 1 food order and left. That food order came and then about 20 minutes later we had to flag him down to take everyone else's food order . Some of us had food, some were done, food came in random intervals. 1 order was wrong and he couldn't answer the questions asked about it. The men delivering our food would just slap the food down and go. We flagged him down AT LEAST 5 times otherwise we'd still be sitting there 3 days later. 2 people with special requests asked for their own bill but he brought only 1 bill and asked if we wanted 2 bills after all and since he was so bad we felt we'd be waiting another 30 minutes for that so we said no. All we wanted was to be finished with him. He brought out a cupcake with a candle for our birthday person but didn't ask or tell anyone if it was time for it. He just slid it on the table and left. He didn't ask us if we wanted anymore drinks or any dessert he just brought the bill. He was way over his head this evening. Because of his bad service it was hard to enjoy the food. The Murtabak was chewy as if left under lights too long.
On a happier note, we stayed for the dancing and the DJ was great. We danced and had a great time but our waiter definitely put a damper on dinner!!!
Visiting Straits Restaurant is a perfect experience every time. The place by itself is really cool, and the food is really tasty. Today we had Singapure Chicken Satay to start and Garlic Noodles and Vegetarian Fried Rice as main course. Amazing!
