About Straits Restaurant - Santana Row
Singapore for almost 200 years has been at the crossroads of Southeast Asia, where many cultures and nationalities live, work and more importantly, eat together. Singapore's cuisines logically reflect this cultural diversity. The four major culinary cultures -- Malaysian/Indonesian, Chinese, Indian and Nonya -- are in fact a blend of each other, creating a new cuisine that is unique and more complex in flavors and fragrances. Straits offers a menu that features the complexity of all these Singaporean cuisines in chef Chris Yeo's unique interpretation. This beautiful Santana Row location opened in January 2003.

Straits Restaurant - Santana Row Ratings and Reviews
It was Valentine’s Day and we wanted to make it special. The food was alright and the ambiance was ok. There were a lot of people out for the special night and it was a little too crazy and overwhelmed. It was cold out last night but it was cold inside the restaurant as well even though there were a lot of people.
Overall the experience was alright.
The best desert on the menu was the Lava cake. It was da bomb!
We were seated on the outside patio which was not romantic at all for a Valentine's Day date. It happened to be cold that night and the patio heater didn't do anything to keep your feet warm at all. The busboys kept putting the food out like appetizers and main entree at the same time. I have to ask if we can have our appetizers first and we'll let them know when we're done with the appetizers. The table was too small for all the food we ordered. I was afraid some of the plates was going to fall down. The dessert came very late and would have been better eaten with a spoon instead of a fork since it was a mango pudding !!!!
It’s Valentine’s Day and they didn’t even offer dessert. We asked for the check since we waited and waited for someone to show up. And they gave it to us right away without even asking us if we cared for dessert. Second visit to this restaurant and it was worse than the first time. Zero for service, heavily under staffed.
Valentines dinner date. First time dining here. Hostess sat us in the rear banquet room next to 4 obnoxious teens on a double date and a handicapped person who had issues feeding himself. Food was average at best. Coconut shrimp fried rice and lemongrass beef was very bland. Ambiance was poor. Many far better dining options in the area
1.We keep getting other people’s food sent to our table.
2.Our food came out one dish at a time.
3. We cancelled our appetizer because the dinner started coming in before....no apology for that.
4. The actual table was like cheap folding poker table
5. Again no apology was offered, even after I complained.
6. I felt like I was being rushed out so that they put another customer on that cheap table with those cheap white plastic dirty patio chairs.
I will never eat there again, it is not worth it all.
Service was terrible! Took forever for someone to come and ask for our drinks! Then a long time passed before they came to take orders.
For some reason they brought the Appetizer AFTER the main course. Then when my wife asked for tissue it took them forever to bring it. When I asked for the check the waiter said he will be right back, 10 minutes later he came back and asked if we are interested in desserts. I had to remind him that I had already asked for the check! Overall food was OK but service was terrible!
The food & music was great! The only complaint we had was that it was so dark in the restaurant that we could not see our food. We had to ask our poor server for multiple candles & at one point, we used the lights on our cell phones. You can achieve or set a "mood" with a little bit more light. Don't turn the lights all the way on, but try to dim them at least. Thank you!
I organized the lunch for my friends to come together and planned to pay for the lunch. When the waitress came over the first time, I specifically told her I would pay for the whole group. At the end, she took my wife's credit card to the computer terminal, then one of my friends gave her his credit card and she just charged his card instead of my wife credit card. I am not happy she just did that without letting us know.
overall the manager did her best to make the exp. the best she could, but we had a reservation for 8:45pm, were not seated till 9:23...further more our server didn't come greet us until another 10 minutes. they tried to make a excuse about a shift change which ovi was a lie as they were getting ready to close the kitchen shortly. I own a few restaurants myself in Sf bay area so i know how situations should be dealt with. Other than that the place is beautiful and the food is great, i might go back but never for food/reservation
I had my worst experience this past Sunday. It took us 50+ minutes to get food while everybody got food around us that arrived later (it became clear our order wasn’t submitted), the waiter didn’t know the menu or beverages, and lastly they said I didn’t show up for my reservation to OpenTable. There doesn’t appear to be any leadership here and it shows.
I have eaten dinner here before and everything was great, although a bit pricey. We decided to have New Year’s Eve dinner here with friends and had planned to pay the $20 cover and stay afterwards for the evening. Everything started out okay- the server took our drink orders in a reasonable amount of time. Our drinks did not arrive until after our meal began to arrive. We would have ordered many more drinks but the server did not come around often and when he did he was in a hurry. We needed refills on our water, more drinks, and we had requested pepper a couple times for my friend’s salad, but no one ever brought it. We had to request the check because no one brought it. We ended up not paying the cover or staying because we wanted to drink and there was a line out the door to get in, and it seemed too busy at the bar by the time we paid the check. I think the problems were only because it was a busy holiday, but it did kind of ruin our original plans for the night so we were disappointed.
"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The roti prata was amazing and the Spicy margarita was amazing. Service was well-timed and friendly. Loved the aveeno hand cream in the restroom “
Made reservations for 6 people, Sat 530pm. We arrived and was greeted by host. She took us to our table right next to the kitchen where we can see garbage cans, lots of noise, and smell of cooking. We asked the waiter if we can move to another table and he said you can seat at the bar area since it has open seating. I told him we can't since we have two kids with us. At this time, there were a lot of tables that are available. Another hostess came and said with an attitude " you don't like your table, go this way". She took us past the kitchen and seats us in a private area all by ourselves. When we got there, she had her hands on her waist line still with an attitude. This is unacceptable. I spoke to her in private and told her she was very rude, she could have sat us in the main dining room since there were many seats available. She responded and said we are reserving those for bigger parties. Really? To me 4 or more is a big party. I responded and told her that's the reason we made reservations so we have a seating where we are comfortable. I can understand if we just walked in. Again this is unacceptable. She apologizes raising her voice. I could have escalated this but I was with families and friends celebrating the holidays and didn't want to ruin the celebration due to the hostess poor customer service. We spent over $200 meal and the food was great. It's unfortunate for such a reputable restaurant in one of the upscale locations in the Bay Area provided such poor service. I recommend that all your staff take a customer service course and if they already have they need a refresher. For clients, we expect excellent customer service from beginning to end for an excellent dining experience that encourages us to come back and share it with others. Thank you and hope that your restaurant will read this seriously and take the necessary actions to avoid this from happening in the future.
Easily booked a reservation for a party of 6 for my boyfriend’s birthday dinner. They followed my special instructions of a table away from the lounge area for a quieter dinner. Food is always excellent and comes out quickly. Always a go-to for special occasions. They even cut the cake I brought in and served with plates.
Great location on Santana Row filled with upscale shops to browse before and after dinner. Had reservations and were seated fairly quickly although for a part of 2, only allowed us to sit at a 2-top, not at the 4-top requested. VERY LOUD but very energetic. Attractive, young crowd. Waited 15 minutes for server but once our order was placed, delivered in less than 10 minutes. Family style portions, meant to be shared.
Food was amazing! Highly recommend for true foodies. Will return and have already recommended. 5 stars.
Had reservations for 630pm but couldn’t make it till 7pm. Called prior n they were accommodating to make the time change.
Tried this restaurant awhile back n it was NOT good, so I was pretty hesitant to trying it again. Regardless, since they have reopened, thought give it another chance.
We were pleasantly surprised! Ordered the following:-
1) Apple & Jicama Salad (nicely flavored n refreshing)
2) Chicken Satay (the peanut sauce was delicious!)
3) Fried Calamari (this was ok. Ordered this for our boy but it had a little spice to it which he didn’t like)
4) Chicken Curry (mostly white meat n tastes ok)
5) Beef Rendang (this was ok but tastes sweet which was weird)
6) Singapore Prawns ( the Prawns was tasty. Chilli sauce tastes more like a sweet & sour sauce + comes with fried mantou which our boy liked)
7) Shaking Beef (V salty. My least favorite. Asked for medium well but it was still pretty red)
8) Jasmine Rice
9) Coconut Bon Bon (this was delicious!)
10) Mango With tapioca sago pudding (refreshing)
11) Chocolate Lava Cake (v well made!)
Overall the food was good. However, if you are looking for spicy food, this isn’t the place.
Very good fusion Asian style leaning on “Singapore Straits” meaning it’s a mix of East Asian styles. Creative and tasty but a bit on the spicey side for me...however I doubt it’s too spicey for most folks...
Fun environment family friendly yet active bar ...
