   Every dinner experience at Straightwharf we've had has been superb From 15 years ago when we stumbled into the restaurant in beach duds and were welcomed -- to this weekend for our 25th anniversary dinner. The food service and view overlooking the harbor all contribute to a magical experience

   I went here with my mom last week and we were sat on the patio outside overlooking the wharf. Perfect table, awesome weather, just perfect all around. I started with the oysters and I had the clam bake as an entree. Everything was delicious and I appreciated we didn't feel rushed. The almond dessert was awesome too. This is definitely one of the best restaurants on Nantucket and the view matches the experience.

   Our mediocre experience is belied by this restaurant's obvious popularity. Contributing mostly was our server's cavalier, almost dismissive attitude. Never underestmate the importance of a server's ability to make or unmake the overall dining experience, especially in a restaurant in this higher-price category. In this case, however, she had help, first in the attempt to put us at an undesirable deck table next to a constant noise, which was probably an air conditioner. Having avoided that, we found our new table to have chairs too low for really comfortable eating, something that reflects unforgivable management arrogance (surely they know, but obviously don't care). Finally, the food fell short of expectations, the menu swordfish dish, which we both ordered, placed on a mound of ratatouille, was, we found, swimming in liquid; while some fish do well in soup, we prefer our swordfish to end their swimming careers prior to being served for dinner(the swordfish itself was, however, properly cooked). And the faint-at-heart should avoid reading the wine list, where many bottles are priced at or in excess of a hundred, and even several hundred, dollars. For us, this restaurant is an example of an empress without clothes, whose long lasting popularity, which it hastens to remind you of, results from customers who are far more accepting of deficiencies that might well be dealbreakers on the mainland.

   Several local Nantucketers recommended this restaurant, situated prominently on a major tourist path, the Straight Wharf. This made me, although a tourist, skeptical. But all my doubts were blown away. Upon our arrival, the host made a special effort to seat us on the beautiful deck as we requested. The food was out of this world: the cucumber soup was chunky and generously enhanced with lobster; the three of us had swordfish, scallops and the special, hake. Everything was declicious, totally fresh and interesting. We didn't have room for dessert, but they brought us three little rosemary shortbreads with our coffee. Make your reservations early and often!

   Maybe it wasn't their night! The restaurant is stuffy, too dark, and the tables are too close for comfort. My chicken dish was acceptable but I was expecting to see an extensive seafood menu in this "wharf" restaurant.

   Always a treat to eat at Straight Wharf. One of the most beautiful and subtle settings in America. The chef keep getting better and every dish is a delight. The music is always the soar note. Please reconsider to a more appropriate play list.

   Staff was incredibly friendly, unfortunately our waitress forgot our order numerous times and made mistakes with it. Good was delicious though and love that it was locally sourced when possible.

    Straight Wharf Restaurant is one of the best restaurants on Nantucket! We asked for an outside table when we made our reservation, so we had an amazing view of the water and the boats! We both ordered chilled cucumber soup with lobster meat to start. I also ordered a Jonah crab cake. Both appetizers were delicious! For our entrees, I chose the swordfish which was grilled perfectly and served with a fresh vegetable ratatouille. My husband chose the house specialty which is a split lobster with corn and clams. ( it is called the S. W. R. Clambake!) For dessert we pre- ordered a galette which is a pastry filled with, in this case, stone fruits. ( nectarines, peaches, and cherries) The service was outstanding! We highly recommend this wonderful restaurant!
