Another great outing at Story. Party of 2, we ordered, duck empanadas as an appetizer. So decadent. We had the hemingway and old fashion for cocktails. A good pour and went nicely with the appetizer. Don't ignore the bread and butter on the table. Very tasty. Dinner brought, the mahi-mahi and braised beef short ribs. Both were amazing. To top off the meal we always get the donuts, because well, DONUTS, enough said. We also took the toffee bread. We highly recommend. Made for a lovely date night. We will be back time and time again.
My son, daughter-in-law, and I had a great experience at story. All the food was both creative and delicious (see photos for samples). The quality of the service was excellent, but a bit slow. They appeared to be understaffed. We selected outdoor dining, which was worth the sacrifice to eat here, but indoor dining would have been preferable. It was a bit too cold. This is definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Kansas City.
we really enjoy the food it’s our monthly place to go for food! We have the best time and the staff is amazing! always loving place to go!
They never disappoint!! Service, food, ambience always good to excellent!~
We very much appreciate the lengths Story goes to to allow us to dine outdoors during Covid. Getting to eat the wonderful food and to be at a restaurant safely has been a life saver during this time.
We had a nice night with our friends and the food was very good, but the brownie dessert was the best!:-)
This was our first visit. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We were a few minutes early, but the manager escorted us to the bar to order a drink while we waited. We were seated promptly. The food was very delicious and well prepared. The restaurant itself is very beautiful and well done. This is definitely now on our favorites list!!
Food and service was excellent. Great COVID safety precautions. Great for a special occassion.
Swordfish was phenomenal. So was lobster tagliatelle.
Five star all the way!
Great ambiance for a Valentine’s Day dinner!
I’m going to start this review by saying this was the first time I have eaten at a place like this and ever spent this kind of money on a meal. The experience was worth it but it all honesty it’s one I would only live once the atmosphere of the staff was very robotic like and maybe that’s what’s expected at a place like this. The food was very good but not to die for but it was well executed. The valentine dessert was bomb digidy! I have to give special gratitude to the front desk who was very kind and out going she even took pictures of me and my date before we left. I hope she was the one who got the tip for she was the highlight of the staff.
The best from scratch bread. I will be dreaming about that bread!!
The food was not much better than Banquet food
Very disappointed especially for the price. We spent almost $700 for 3. I was the only one having wine. The steak was so bad did not finish.
Great service, great food, parking was easy. Recommend the Rye old-fashion Number 2 cocktail.
It was delish
Great Valentines dinner! We both went with the optional wine pairings, and the whole dinner was great. The scallops and desert were both 8/10, the salad was a 10/10, but the steak fell a little short for me.
We were there for Valentine’s week, when the chef prepared a set menu at a fixed price. As always, he hit it out of the park. Every dish was welcoming and approachable, with exceptional flavors. Seared scallops as an appetizer, a spinach and frisée salad with chef’s citrus vinaigrette, a perfectly cooked piece of beef tenderloin with vegetables followed by a lemon semifreddo over fresh strawberries. Just a perfect meal, without all the esoteric ingredients and preparations that less skilled chefs feel are necessary. We have never been unhappy with anything we’ve had at Story.
We had an excellent time and the food, wine and service was wonderful.
We had a wonderful time at Story for date night It was our first time in and plan to be back. The food was delicious. Our waiter was knowledgeable and the manager was very kind and spoke with us for quite a while. Story thank you.
Excellent meal with great service! New menu items that are fabulous. Great heated patio!
Our dinner was wonderful.
Our server was superb and being able to dine outdoors made it so we could be distanced and still have a great meal!
Although it was 40 degrees, the patio was nice and warm! There are stand heaters between every table. The complimentary one use blankets were a nice surprise also.
I deducted one star because we went for the Fried Chicken special and they ran out. This happens often so I'd suggest they prepare more. Our server never told us they were out so we were quite surprised when we were served a completely different chicken dish. It was delicious but definitely not what we'd ordered or expected.
38 degrees and the heaters were amazing we even took off our coats. Food was delicious service was wonderful and we thank them for accommodations for outdoor winter diners.
Story always presents the best food around. The acoustics are a problem for some of us or maybe it was just a particularly boisterous crowd while we were there. I appreciate a restaurant where the servers do not feel they have to engage in chatty conversation with the guests. Training can change that. Carry-out may be the best option for our group.
The food was absolutely incredible, the drinks hit the spot, the atmosphere was great...the service, or rather our server, was not good at all. Immediately we felt we were in trouble and more of a Nuisance. You could tell she did not want to be there. We have always loved Story. and have had amazing servers in the past, but I would expect more out of such a renowned restaurant.
The food was amazing. I appreciate the restaurant taking safety precautions and having up the partitions. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu. Our drinks stayed full and our food came out in a timely manner. I will be back.
I loved everything about this!! Phenomenal service phenomenal food! Will definitely be back
It was all good. Just over priced for what it is. I could’ve put some oil on a bag of
As always, the food was delicious!
Food is amazing. Wine list is grossly overpriced.
My fiance and I had dinner during restaurant week. We both ordered the swordfish, which I thought was very good, but she did not like it. Portions were small, which might be understandable for the swordfish, but it was accompanied by less than a half dozen small potato pieces, all of which would have fit on a soup spoon along with one lonely mushroom.
My fiance also ordered a side dish of mushrooms which were so salty that neither of us could eat them even though we are not salt sensitive.
Our server didn't bother to ask if we wanted them replaced, instead she took them back and came back shortly with more mushrooms, which, this time, were delicious.
Dessert was part of the restaurant week meal with two choices, which we shared and agreed that neither was worth the calories or for that matter, good.
Our server, while efficient, never asked about our meal and lacked any semblance of personality. Disappointing for an expensive restaurant.
Not sure if we will eat there again.
Large room that lacked ambience. The drinks were good, the food was fine, albeit it arrived cold and was thrown down like slop without fanfare. Our waitress barely spoke 40 words to us the entire visit. Our introduction to dessert was to have it thrown down on our table accompanied by the word “Lemon” and our check. Good thing we didn’t want another drink. Our waitress did take her time chatting with the table behind us, to make sure to show that she had singled us out as not worth serving. Overall I would skip Story and go to Cafe Provence across the street.
We went for restaurant week - the food was very good. No complaints on taste, however they forgot the rice that came with the swordfish. Has to send back the Mahi Mahi as it was raw inside. Asked for a glass of ‘house’ can, and stuck with a TWENTYFIVE dollar glass of wine. Waiter charged both meals on the same card, when he was given 2 cards. Notified the manager, and he couldn’t have cared less. Waiter did not apologize for ANY of these mishaps. Not one apology. Manager didn’t apologize either - just said ‘Thanks for letting me know’. Very disappointed at this level of service for two $80 meals.
We had a great experience at Story.
Great food choices and excellent service.
Another great meal at Story. They have a wonderful gift for preparing dishes with imagination and quality.
Food and ambiance were good. I had the donut dessert and only g cm hangs to it would be to put a frosting/icing to keep them from rolling around the plate. They had some other thing that didn’t compliment the donuts, it actually took away from the dessert.
Chris our waiter was very attentive and friendly. The food was out of this world!
