We heard good things about Story. Not knowing how busy they would be on a Friday night, we made early reservations for our anniversary. The atmosphere was great, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. We were very pleased and will be returning soon.

Very expensive for such small portions. Waiter had flour soiled apron. Salmon was slightly undercooked but decent size. Served with 2 fingerling potatoes and 2 spears of asparagus.

Not the worst restaurant, but was not worth the money & would not recommend. I do not usually write a poor review and could care less about this stuff at a cheaper restaurant, but this restaurant is expensive and for the amount of money it really spoiled the occasion. The menu is formatted weirdly and doesn’t indicate appetizers, sides, entrees etc— this would be fine, but our server never explained it to us or asked if we’d been there, and we ordered all the wrong things. Serving sizes are extremely small; more along the lines of experimental dishes than complete meals. Although it was not much, the food itself was quite good. There were not enough servers in the restaurant so it took a while for them to get to us, and when we asked for desserts we did not get a dessert menu. They did customize the desserts for our occasion, which was a nice touch. Pros - nice location/interior, good food/desserts Cons - poor service/understaffed, menu didn’t make sense, very small amount of food

I have never experienced such a hostile waiter ever at this place. It appeared that he resented having to wait on our table. And after three attempts, there was absolutely NO olive juice in the dirty martini and the olives were removed...plus, as it was last call, the attitude was hostile and quit unfriendly...guess everyone wanted us to leave ASAP.

It’s sad when we’ll prepared and presented food get lost in bad service. It wasn’t just a little bad, it was all around embarrassingly bad. My daughter who was in for a visit, managed food and Bev for Belair hotel, then on to manage front of the house for T Keller…she couldn’t believe how poorly trained the servers were. It started at the host stand, with two fellows leaning while I stood at the door in a sling and had to muscle my way through the door with one arm, to neglectful and clumsy table service. The food however was predictably fabulous.

Booked a reservation online for my wife's birthday, which was super easy. We ordered the short ribs and salmon, both fantastic. Ordered the brownie a la mode, and they brought it out with Happy Birthday written on the plate and a candle. Awesome place. Only thing I would do different next time is to ask for a little but more private table.

Always terrific. My salmon was prepared to perfection. My wife’s swordfish was marvelous. It’s one of our top 5 restaurants in KC. Consistently excellent. Pricey but they always deliver an amazing meal and a top-notch experience. Waiters are well-trained, engaging and helpful without being fussy.

The restaurant has cafeteria style table setups with no art or decor anywhere to mention, making for not a very warm or inviting experience. On the bright side all of the flavors were exceptional and each item tasted top notch. The portions were small, as we were actually warned in advance by our server. The $46 halibut was very thin, dry, and unimpressive. The $48 tenderloin was wonderful in flavors but only presented about 6oz. We had a soft shelled crab, a beet salad, and a ceviche for appetizers and they were delicious. We were happy but based on ambience and value we couldn’t make this a favored upscale location.

Story was enchanting. We went there for dinner outdoors on mother's Day weekend and it was so lovely. Beautiful food and presentation and excellent service. Loved the roasted beet salad with the smoked walleye capers and burrata. The soft shell crabs were all so excellent. Enjoy the lemon cake with honey ice cream for dessert and our mom had the espresso ice cream which she loved. I would definitely recommend Story for an all-around excellent dining experience. We will be back!

As always, impressed with the food and service. The duck empanadas appetizer has an amazingly delicate crust with a delicious filling. The soft shell crab entree was also perfectly fried very lightly, maintaining the integrity of the crab. The accompaniments complimented the seafood nicely. My wife has the fried chicken which is a generous portion including both white and dark meat. Crispy and freshly cooked—she loved it. Dessert was warmed strawberries in a shortbread cup that was superb. Frankly, the fruit itself was so tasty that I would have been happy eating it alone. Did I mention cocktails? Order from their cocktail menu since their bartender does amazing work.

We went to celebrate our anniversary this evening. (Side note— open table asks about special reasons for dining, but Story does not care. No Happy Anniversary greeting or flower on your table or pick a dessert to share, but not a deal breaker. We didn’t decide on Story because we were hoping for a song and dance from the servers). We had an outstanding server (Robert) and several unique and palate-thrilling dishes (carrot bisque, anyone?), but we were seated, for our anniversary dinner, by a table of 5-6 day-drinking golfers who wanted to cap off the night by having a rowdy, entitled evening at Story. A few staff apologized to us for the noise level, but no one ever offered us to move tables or a coffee for our troubles or just anything that would have made us feel that Story cared that our anniversary dinner was pretty compromised by the rambunctious party table next to us. Frontline service staff apologized to us profusely and explained the golf backstory of that party, but Story management never showed up for us. We LOVE Story, but it is SO hard for us to get a night to ourselves, and I’m not sure that I will want to spend $300 for another “special” night with my husband there when I could spend about $30 for a meal and the same kind of environment at Johnny’s. If you don’t care whether or not you can hear your spouse or whomever at the same table as you, though, we definitely cannot say enough wonderful things about the food— tagliatelle, carrot bisque, and braised short ribs 1000% for the win!!!! We also thought Robert was a super attentive and experienced server. Management needs to read the room, though…

I rarely give a full five stars. Our experience at Story was delicious and memorable. Every dish came out hot, beautifully plated and was delicious. Cocktails were great and service was outstanding. The restaurant was full and our only negative was the loudness of the two other tables sitting around us - no fault of the restaurant and staff. Well done Story!

I've loved Story since it first opened. And, pre-COVID went there almost every week. But on my most recent visit, I found that the green salad pieces had brown ends and some pieces looked old. There was barely any dressing. The usually delicious salad was not up to former standards. The fried chicken which is a favorite always has had both dark and white meat. This time it just had white meat which is not my favorite. I can deal with a piece or two of white meat, but not every piece. Although I asked the server if something could be done about it, I was told that the 'kitchen' would not do anything about it. It was disappointing. Also disappointing was that the beautiful dividers installed during COVID, between the seats along the banquet, had been removed. So now the noise that was reduced so much by the dividers was back again and made it difficult for my husband and I to hear each other. The sense of privacy is gone. It will be a very long time before we return. Finally, while I marked that I would recommend Story to a friend, it will be with a warning caveat.

Food and service were fantastic. I had been hyping this up to my wife for months and she was not disappointed. Our waitress took the time to explain everything in great detail and was very knowledgeable about the entire menu. We will definitely be returning here!

i love story, it's one of my top 5 local restaurants. unfortunately this time they missed the mark: 1) no one could answer questions re: wine--and in fact seemed put out that i was even asking questions, 2) my meal (duck) sat under the warmer way too long and was way over temp and dry as a bone, in fact, i had to ask for them to make a sauce to add moisture, which it added flavor but it was already ruined and due to our server's attitude re: wine i feared asking to send it back. i'll be back, but this was a very disappointing visit

Everyone loved their dishes & our waitress was fantastic but weird that they close at 8:30. We had reservations for 7pm with 6 of us. They encouraged everyone to order one item from each section of the menu but vegans have only brussels sprouts & roasted veggies so that's it, nothing to choose from each section of the menu, no substitutions to make anything else vegan. But with our group of 6, arriving at 7, we were shutting the place down at 9 as the staff were setting the tables for the next day. However, everyone in the group (except the vegan) were still raving about their dishes the next day! PLEASE ADD MORE VEGAN OPTIONS - Roasted cauliflower steak perhaps with mashed (non-buttered/dairy) potatoes?? Then we could bring business dinner groups here more often & now know to have reservations by 6pm instead of 7.

been there several times. This was the best. The noise level, has improved and the food presentation too. It would be outstanding at a different setting than a shopping mall. couriously two of the best restaurants in the entire KC area are at this place????
