We had lots of fun, in addition to a memorable dinner. The kids menu was varied and delicious, so even the children had a wonderful tasting adventure.
I planned to have the special, lake trout, but learned that they were dredged in advance in flour and pistachios. I switched my order to the chicken and it was so good, I didn't mind. My husband said the lake trout was also good. One minor issue: the mint sorbet, which I've had twice, is delicious but icy and hard to eat,
Always love your fish!
Always love the food and appreciate the Sunday specials
Very nice service. The atmosphere was nice. Service was excellent and food superb. Price point was reasonable.
Incredible food, amazing service, and will always be our special place for our anniversary. The swordfish was perfectly prepared, and the doughnuts for dessert, how could you go wrong?
The Ridge wine dinner was superb. As always Chef Carl’s food was outstanding, & the red wines were excellent (the white got mixed reviews at our table)
As always, Story is one of the better dining options in KC
Excellent and consistent food. Professional and knowledgeable wait staff. We have eaten their several times and have never been disappointed.
waiter had a flippant attitude. We made reservation for the Sunday night dinner and he said we should of been in line at 5:00 that it ran out in one hour. Pour service and bait and switch advertising. Have always enjoyed this restaurant but now will not go back and will spread the word. We live in PV…disappointed !!!
First time we've been there and thought it was very good.
First time to eat at Story. I loved the playful menu items. Rather enjoyable and i would definitely go again.
We sat on the patio during a charming evening. The cork fee is high ($35) & they have to check your bottle. Except that, food is incredible. The veal is to die for
We loved Story. The food was delicious and we look forward to coming back. The service was good too and the noise was not too bad. We are old and don't hear as well as we used to.
Thank you for a really nice evening.
Start with the duck empanadas -- fantastic! The short ribs are incredible! If you go on Wednesday, I'd truly recommend at least one person in the group getting the fried chicken -- the best I've ever had. Right now is soft shell crab season and that is just magical. All of the desserts are good -- the German chocolate cake only has toasted coconut on top, which is an amazing option for the coconut challenged folks.
It was my first time to try the Sunday special. Value and flavor were outstanding, as was presentation. The only thing I'd say is that the waiter told us the chef liked to serve the steaks medium-rare and we wanted medium. Some of both our steaks were closer to medium-rare but I felt like I'd offend someone if I sent mine back. I could eat most of it though, and the service and value were all top-notch.
AWESOME - loved The entire experience - everything tasted just perfectly prepared to a “t!” Out of this world!
Kevin, the server was attentive, knowledgeable and respectful at the same time!
We cannot believe this is a neighborhood place - we feel transported to some big city, but absolutely love that Story is in our own backyard!
We cannot wait to return!
Thank to all the hardworking, creative folks at Story!
Only disappointment was the smoked duck empanadas-- not enough duck filling and too heavy barbecue sauce flavor.
Went to Story tonight for soft shell crabs. We were not disappointed! Started with an octopus, chanterelles, poached egg and crispy potatoes app. Excellent! Well cooked octopus, extra crispy potatoes with an egg that had a runny yolk.
Crab cake out between crushed fingerling potatoes, cauliflower, and angel hair slaw. Deep fried lightly, crisp the crab meat was tasty and delicate. Wait staff made an excellent Chablis pairing for us. We will make this an annual dinner!
The food was delicious! I would not recommend the steak tartare, but everything else we had was delicious, we all especially loved the halibut it was fantastic.
We always enjoy Sunday specials. This time it was cod, which my husband liked, and I took advantage of the first serving of soft shell crab. I appreciate the chef's willingness to make this dish gluten and lactose free for me.
It was our first time. Not alot of people. Nice but not impressive for the price point. duck empanadas were amazing. entre for my wife and i was ok, good taste but not wow. Her chicken was ok, she thought maybe a tad undercooked. My rib meat was very tender and great taste but for me a bit more fatty than i was expecting. Thats on me though, didn't think ahead. Overall it was ok.
The short rib dish is one of the best things I've had anywhere in the KC metro.
We always enjoy our dinners at Story. Food is excellent!
Fabulous experience, Carl is one of our favorite Chef/Restaurant owners not just in Kansas City, but we believe competes with the finest chefs in the world. Ravioli was incredible! Service truly a cut above. Well done Story!
We had an attentive waiter. Our food was delicious. My husband had the short rib and I had Mahi-mahi. I would suggest these dishes. A wonderful meal and we will be back.
Enjoyed the prix fixe menu with the wine pairing and overall, it was fantastic! I didn't really enjoy the peas plate, with the endive and radish (it was a bitter to me) but other than that, everything else was very good and the service was delightful. I will definitely return!
We dine at Story periodically and it's always our special occasion restaurant.
Thank you for another excellent dining experience!
Everything we had that evening was delicious. Especially liked the smoked duck empanadas.
Service was impeccable! The chocolate torte with poached pears is a fantastic pairing of flavors.
Food is Excellent !!! Sweetbreads are my favorite. It's a great restaurant to sit, dine and chat in a very low noise, non-stuffy, yet elegant, romantic restaurant. the chef is truly amazing in balancing all of the flavors in every dish. Never had a bad meal at Story. I Highly recommend dining there.
Story always provides a great dining experience. The service is attentive but unobtrusive, the decor is understated, and the noise level is fairly low. But most important is the food, which is always delicious. Most recently we had the salmon special entree, which was cooked to perfection and very flavorful.
We had the Sunday $10 special which was salmon. Excellent meal. Josh our server was very perspective...his timing was excellent.
We love Story and enjoy that it offers upscale food in our neighborhood.
The food was excellent, but the service was slow. Our server was excellent - very knowledgeable, professional and polite. However, we waited a long time between courses and often didn’t have the cocktail or wine we had ordered with a particular course. Still my favorite restaurant.
We had the most wonderful dinner at Story! Food was outstanding and chef Karl is very personable, humble and very talented. If you want a unique, classy place for an intimate dinner, then this is the place. Worth the drive.
Wonderful food and presentation. Service staff (Chris) was courteous, professional and prompt.
Absolutely! The food was amazing - we had an amuse bouche, salad, appetizer of the duck empanadas and one of the tagliatelle with lobster and burrata. Our entrees were the Red Snapper and the Pork Tenderloin - expertly prepared. We also had dessert of the donuts and spun sugar with passion fruit pastry cream - yummy. The service was attentive but not intrusive (thanks Rebecca!).
Story is an awesome little restaurant in Prairie Village. They are an upper scale restaurant, but completely non-pretentious. I enjoyed the duck empanadas, and wagu seared ribeye with a glass of rosé. The restaurant also provided artisan bread with nice, salted butter and a complimentary appetizer of an Italian fried dough ball in a lemon sauce. Like an Italian hushpuppy; forgot the name. Kevin, my server, was very knowledgeable and kind. The beef was outstanding and cooked to a perfect medium-rare. The German chocolate cake for desert was great, too! I went by myself and had a great experience. Awesome place for one to dine!
It wasn't the coldest night Kansas City has had this year, but it was windy. When we walked in we specifically said "no table near the front door" so the hostess guides us around to what we thought was going to be back deeper in the dining room. Instead she seated us at the table behind the glass panels that block the entry way/hostess stand from the dining room. And they are OPEN glass panels. So, every time the door opened (which was continually), we had a little swish of cold air. There were PLENTY of four tops further away from the door. Our server, Chris, started out okay, first cocktails came quickly. We asked for recommendations, and he made good ones. Somewhere along the way though, he just took on kind of an attitude, like we weren't quite good enough to eat there. Maybe it is because we didn't order one of the overpriced bottles of wine? We certainly were generous in ordering three courses, mostly at the high end. The second round of cocktails we know he heard us order, but then forgot. They we asked for a second bread basket and he seemed a bit aghast. It was just disappointing to be sitting where we sat (next time I'll not put up with being ignored about where I want to sit) and have a standoffish server, when the food was absolutely spectacular. None of this will keep us from returning, we've been dining here regularly since they opened. But don't let the somewhat arrogant hostesses seat you where you don't want to sit. I should have stood my ground and not been intimidated. Same with Chris, I should have just asked him if he had a problem with us. I do love the food, bar and (usually) the dining room.
The service was outstanding, including the wine sommelier. The chef is super creative, and offers dishes not normally available at restaurants. They willingly and easily accommodated a gluten-free diet. We were also celebrating a birthday, and they went out of their way to make the dessert special. Wonderful experience.
