One of the best meals we have had in recent memory The price fix menu for Valentines Day was perfection
Could not have been better. The reason I gave this 4 star rating is because it may have been too pricey for those not realizing only the price fix menu was available that night.
Will be visiting more often.....
Great set menu for valentines. We enjoyed ourselves and found the food and service to be great. It’s a tight space but with a unique flare.
We were squished into a tight corner, so as to pack more people in; for $100 per person on Valentine’s Day, the least that they could have done is give each lady a rose; the food was uninspired.
I thought it was overpriced. Otherwise, quite good.
Always our favorite. Enjoyed Valentine's Eve dinner with outstanding menu and enjoyable wine pairings.
Day before Valentine’s Day
Always an outstanding dining experience! Wednesday night special is fried chicken-Wonderful!
Had a very fun, romantic night at Story. My fiancee and I enjoyed everything--the duck empanadas were fantastic! Definitely going back!
Story is always good on a Sunday night when the special is something that appeals to both of us. In this case it was beef tenderloin. My portion was larger than I could eat but I enjoyed it as well as the green beans and fingerlings. I always enjoy the green salad and my husband and I enjoy combining ice cream for him and sorbet for me. I liked the mint sorbet especially because it was soft and not icy.
The meal I enjoyed with my daughter (a daughter-Dad date) was outstanding in every way. She loved the food and ambiance, as did I. Wonderful A+ restaurant experience!
The food was amazing. Service was thoughtful, although a bit slow. The overall feel of the restaurant is energetic and busy. Not a place for a romantic night, but well worth the trip.
The wine pairings dinner was superb. A wonderful experience I would be happy to repeat at any time. From appetizer to dessert everything was delicious. Thanks Chef Thorne Smith and staff for making it a great experience.
I always love eating at Story and come fairly often.
Last time I was there I noticed you charged for an item like butter or something that most restaurants give freely. This time a charge for shaking our martini....never saw anything like that.
I’m beginning to get paranoid about all the extra up charges and wonder what else is not included in menu prices.
Food was way too salty. It just was not as good as usual.
Always fantastic!
Great restaurants are consistent with their food and Story is the perfect example. Excellent food and presentation. Sweet bread and also beet appetizers were great beginning. Prime rib with yes tater tots for main. Red snapper was the other meal. Both were 1 and 1A in choice, from presentation to taste. Definitely our spot for special times
excellent meal , excellent service.... only thing - we were unaware of corking fee ... $35 a bottle ... be aware so you are not caught off guard... we brought two bottles and our corking fee $70... just something to be aware of...
Every item we ordered was excellent from the appetizer to the dessert.
Story never disappoints. We are lucky to have this restaurant in our neighborhood!!
Great ambiance- nice and quiet - perfect for a nice evening out. The food was excellent. We have a dairy allergy and the chef was very accommodating. Highly recommend!
We went for one of their monthly wine nights. The food and wine were both amazing. The service and pours of wine were subpar. The timing of getting our wine pairing and the food course that was supposed to go with it was way off to the point where nothing was actually paired the way it was supposed to be. The servers seemed put out just from being there. I used to be a fan of this restaurant, but truly don’t know if we will ever go back.
Excellent choice of appetizers and entrees. Always has a number of seafood items. The ceviche was excellent as was the reliable short ribs. Great choice of wines. Had an outstanding vintage champagne at a reasonable price. Good advice on the wines. I will keep coming back
They didn't have a vegetarian main course. I just ordered 2 appetizers which they worked around. And when i asked what type of wine would be best paired with my meal between the 3 i chose i got told they didn't know. I actually did like mot food and it was a BEAUTIFUL restaurant, but wouldn't recommend someone going there not during restaurant week.
Love! Everything
Restaurant week
Excellent food, loved the bread and cheese fritter
The food is always amazing. Carl is a wonderful, creative chef. But, the service continues to be lacking. Please hire servers who are customer friendly. We would come more frequently if the service improves
This was our first visit to Story, and we decided that Restaurant Week was en excellent time to give it a try. We were immediately seated (at a high table, which wouldn't have been our 1st choice, but which turned out to be adequate for our needs). Our waiter promptly appeared, took our drink order, and through the rest of the evening was attentive and helpful. We both tried one of the Restaurant Week options, which included soup or a salad, an entree, and dessert. We opted for the Mahi mahi after opening with the Caesar salad, and were very pleased with the quality and preparation of the food, as well as the portions provided.
Overall this was a very pleasant experience, and the quality of the food by itself would be a compelling reason for a return visit. The only negative, in our opinion, was the price we ended up paying. The RW dinner cost was $33 per person. We requested anchovies on our Caesar salads, which were provided, but we were charged an additional $3 per plate for them, an "extra" we've seldom had to pay for at any other restaurant.
We ordered one drink before dinner - my beer was $6...a little high but not exorbitant; my wife, on the other hand, asked for a glass of the house Cabernet, and we were shocked when our bill reflected a cost of $18 which was several times more than we believed was justified and which we had never before had to pay at any Kansas City restaurant for a single glass of wine! We finished our meal with two cups of coffee, and were presented with a final bill of $114 before the tip, just slightly more than the $66 we might have paid had we opted for no anchovies, no alcohol, and no coffee.
In short, by all means visit Story for well prepared food and excellent service, but unless your bank account is no consideration you might want to avoid the pricey drinks and extras that can easily take the overall cost into the "very expensive" category...
Great atmosphere, incredible food! Will definitely return
Food was very good. Wine list and cocktails both very good. Unfortunately the website did not indicate that happy hour prices would not be honored during restaurant week. Prices are high...so regular price vs my expected half off appetizers really blew my budget. So if you are on a budget stick to happy hour in the bar or go as a business meal so you can write it off.
It was a great meal as usual!
I went with a group of friends for Restaurant Week 2019 and we had a great time. The food was amazing and the RW special was a very good deal. We had the cauliflower bisque which was creamy and delicious followed by pork tenderloin that was perfectly cooked and also delicious, finished with panna cotta that was out of this world. It's a great spot for a cozy, romantic, or special dinner.
We wanted to try somewhere new for us and Restaurant Week presented a good opportunity. Cauliflower bisque was very good, entree of mahi mahi was good but a little on the salty side for me. Deserts were so-so. No complaints on service at all.
Restaurant week. Specials were very good and good value. Excellent meal and experience
I couldn't eat your $33 Restaurant Week special because there weren't any GF DF options, but I managed to bring my own meal in at the same price with the green salad and the excellent chicken. Even took the leftover chicken home, put it in Tupperware and left it outside, because we had no heat. Good meal.
Sunday night date for a new restaurant for restaurant week. It was a very elegant small restaurant with a great menu and reasonable prices. I will go back.
After 12 inches of snow on a cold winter night...we were a bit late, but enjoyed our evening at Story....food was superb as always....ambiance was outstanding as well. I have always like the lighting in Story as it provides a wonderful atmosphere!
Had the opportunity for an evening out with my husband and kiddos. Story made it a great evening. Fantastic food, great service, perfect atmosphere. Thanks greatly!!
Only complaint was that the tables were way too close together. It made us a bit selfconscious for conversing.
Disappointed in restaurant week at Story this year. Service was very slow. We waited 10 minutes for anyone to come to the table. Wine was slow. Dessert took 15 minutes (which seemed strange as there are only two options for Restaurant Week so it’s surprising they weren’t already prepped?). The mahi portion was small. The food was good, but overall not impressed with our experience.
