This chef continues to impress. The beef shortribs and the pork tenderloin and the accompanying sides were delicious. Could not have been more well prepared.
Service was adequate though maybe not as attentive as we would have liked ( perhaps due to restaurant week rush). Wine pricing is a bit high, at $15glass , but the selection was good. Even with two of our four guests opting for the restaurant week selections, the bill with tip still topped $300. Not cheap, but the meals were outstanding. Remains one of our favorite places.

We have eaten at Story before. This time we were here for restaurant week. The food was delicious, but I was surprised there were only two choices. Most of the restaurant week menu's have three options. I enjoyed my meal. The entree was delicious and so was the desert. I think the wine list is a little too pricey!

After hearing good reviews we were excited to try it during restaurant week. We ordered the restaurant week special but was very disappointed. All our main course was a little too salty. The dessert was dry. The only thing that was decent was the soup even though it wasn’t that warm.
The worse part was our whole dinner took a little over 2 hours. After each course we waited about 20-30 minutes for the next course to be served. I know they were busy but I assume they expected this since it was restaurant week. And we only ordered the restaurant week special which I assume was prepared ahead of time.

Food was good except for the desert. The graham cake was very very dry and for something that was supposed to like s’mores there was very little chocolate and marshmallows. Will not be rushing back.

Great fun! Small space, we were at a high top and a group of 8 people were waiting for their table about 2 feet away from our table. So, kind of loud and hard to hear each other. Food and service was fabulous as always! Fun!

The food at Story was absolutely excellent; however, the taste did not make up for the pretentiously small portions and high price. My fiance had a wonderful swordfish with meager 'sides' for $38, but had to go home and eat more after dinner. Expect to eat a little bit of great food for a lot of money.

We celebrated New Years Eve with friends at Story. The special menu and wine pairings were superb. This has become a tradition for us and we are so fortunate to have this wonderful restaurant in our neighborhood. It is one of KC’s top spots!

Went with 4 couples for New Years Eve dinner. Prix Fixe menu was a fabulous 6 course affaire served impeccably by outstanding waitstaff! Everyone was amazed by the intricacies of each dish in the way that each ingredient was detectable in each bite.
Could not have expected such a delightful experience in a restaurant located in a strip mall!
Chef Thorne-Thompson and his wife Susan have knocked it over the fence, making our “Story” have a happy ending with happy beginning of a New Year.

This was our second time eating at Story. The food was, again, exquisite. I would not call myself a terribly adventurous eater, but I tried the sweet breads! Loved them. What a great setting to explore new foods! The happy hour is such a deal! They have a fantastic bar- the homemade whiskey cherries in my husband's Old Fashioned were a nice surprise! Can't wait to introduce our friends and family to this place.

Strange occurrence tonight.Been here several times, have always loved it!! However tonight server asked for all courses to be ordered all at once, “chef insists”. We wanted to order appetizers before deciding on dinner, but this wasn’t allowed....said he would come back later after all four of us decided on everything. And, cocktails took 15 minutes to arrive despite only one other table being occupied (was full by the time we left). Still love Story, but hoping this shenanigans goes away.

Very dissapointed. We had reservations on Christmas Eve. We were not seated until a hour later. Our food took over an hour to be served. The entree portion was small. Way over priced.
Would not go back.

Need to work on front door so cold air doesn’t come blowing in each time it is opened.

Bar and kitchen were a bit overwhelmed by seating so many large tables at nearly the same time, so service was a bit slower than usual, but not terribly so.

But food was excellent and overall a very nice dining experience.

Our Christmas eve dinner was generally lovely with a couple of exceptions. The first was a new - to- our-experience server who declared quite perfunctorily that there was "no corkage permitted on holidays." This, of course is the restaurant's choice, but we had three contacts with the restaurant prior to our reservation time, and nothing was mentioned about this. Story already has a very aggressive corkage fee of $35 a bottle, exceptional for the area, and forcing us to drink the house selections when we brought fine wine that was not on the restaurant's list, without advanced notice was unreasonable, and the server's approach was quite poor. The balance of the service was quite acceptable, and the food generally was quite what we have come to expect of Story., except for the ribeye steak which was, while cooked very properly, not like any ribeye we've ever experienced. Rather than the well marbled, melt in your mouth flavorful steak we expected, this was grainy and tough, much more like a piece of good sirloin than a ribeye. A disappointment in general. We've always recommended Story. and we'll certainly go back, but we'd like to know when they're going to change their policies before we show up, .... and what was that steak that was supposed to be a ribeye, all about?

We chose Story for our Christmas Eve dinner and we were not disappointed. Most of us had the chicken, which was very good, and I appreciated their willingness to make substitutions to help with my need to be gluten free. The green salad and Caesar salad were predictably good, and the sorbet and ice cream were enjoyable. We followed the server'srecommendations for wine and found them good.

We had a wonderful Christmas Eve dinner. The sweetbreads and the chicken entrees were excellent as were the pear and green salads and the lemon pudding cake. Service with a Chris was very good. The evening started slow and quiet but became more crowded and lively as the evening passed. Story remains a favorite for us.

I had heard great things but I found the food to be underwhelming. Presentation was beautiful but the food seemed overworked. It tasted over-seasoned such you could not appreciate the actual taste of the food. I prefer seasoning that enhances- but does not overpower food. Not the taste profile for us - don’t anticipate returning.

The Story has a nice atmosphere and overall good service. I will say there was a good spell of time between courses and a little longer than expected. The food was great but the portions
are on the small side for the price. The wine especially was pricey if you only want to have a glass instead of a bottle. The average glass of wine is around $15 per glass.

We arrived at 4:30pm which is an early dinner sitting due to heading the the ballet afterward. We had exceptional service and the food was amazing. Sometimes fine dinning seems like the portion is small but I could not eat everything and was full and comfortable. I tried the pomegranate spritzer and LOVED it! May be my new go to drink. No dessert since I didn't want to be uncomfortable at the ballet. We are foodie people and will be back to Story.

We had a lovely Sunday eve at Story with our two grown kids. The food was delicious, beautifully plated and varied. If you haven’t tried the new pear salad give it a try, wonderful. Service with Chris was excellent. Our reservation was early and we were able to linger as they weren’t packed. Story remains such an elegant but relaxed environment with every effort to provide a wonderful dining experience.

Great time at Story with out-of-town foodie guests. Travis the bartender is awesome- always making fabulous seasonal cocktails. Great wine list. Fantastic service from Rebecca. Our party had the swordfish, snapper, shrimp and grits as well as a phenomenal pear salad. The deconstructed German Chocolate cake is one of the best desserts in town. Fab!

Story has been our go-to special restaurant for years. We have dined here countless times, and everytime we leave saying we've never had anything that hasn't been exceptional and out of this world. This last time my husband and I agreed the crab bisque was the best we've ever had! Seasonal cocktails are always on point as well. We love that this restaurant is in our neighborhood and consistently amazing. Worth every penny.

If you like your gin and tonic flat and your food salty, this is the place for you. Service was very good, the candle was real (not flickering LED). Two appetizers and a fish and a beef entree, all salty. No salt on the table, so I guess the chef wanted to be sure you did not need it.
Nice white tablecloth, too bad the napkins were polyester but that seems to be the case everywhere now. So I now take my own cotton or linen napkin. The wine list is extensive and we had a nice pinot noir (at about 4 times retail).

Our table of four had a delightful evening. The service was attentive and friendly and the drinks and meal were very well paced. The menu offered a good variety of plate sizes and food types. While three of us loved the pear salad, our entrees were quite varied with some opting for a small plate of pasta. We all thought the food was fresh and flavorful. Last but not least, the wine list was well varied and substantial. The sommeliers were quick to offer some suggestions... which turned out to be very good.

I always like to go to Story when the Sunday $10 special is ciappino. Their version has shrimp, mussels, halibut and fingerlings in a tomato sauce. And I always star with the green salad. Though it's only lettuce with pieces of pistachios, the dressing is so light and refreshing I'd like to replicate it.

Open Table indicated Story as $$ for price. This restaurant is at least a $$$$, I considered Story to be expensive. My sister and I each had one glass of wine and split a few appetizers. Our bill was $90. The entrees were in the $35-45 range. I do not consider this a $$ priced restaurant.
