Terrific! Food was spectacular & our waitress was excellent :-)
Stories was a wonderful birthday treat for my husband and me. The cocktails were beautiful, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious.
Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service. We really enjoyed the experience.
Just an outstanding food experience. Anna was a very knowledgeable server and her personality just took the experience up a notch.
As always we started with a drink in the sitting room—so relaxing— before moving over to the restaurant. An intimate, peaceful ambiance with exceptional food and unobtrusively warm service. A hidden gem here in Halifax.
Great food, from a small menu in and intimate space with wonderful staff - highly recommended
So good! Excellent food, and the service Is amicable and warm. Attentive servers. Worth of a special occassion.
quiet place, perfect for a romantic dinner or celebration. Exceptional service and presentation. Nice wine list, small but varied menu. Thank you Katherine for your service and making our night into something truly special.
Our server was amazing so friendly and kind, beautiful inside and out....I have been serving for 20 years and the server you have working for you is one of kind and you are very lucky to have her working for you
fantastic food, service, and ambiance! Our fourth time eating here on our annual visit to Celtic Colours! Will keep coming back.
Excellent meal with my wife to celebrate our anniversary. We both enjoyed all three courses with wine and were particularly impressed with the service.
Very sweet venue with a romantic table next to the window which we enjoyed on our last night in Halifax. The location is easy to get to in downtown and we felt very comfortable walking there from our lodging at the Marriot Harborview. Our meal was superb!
Our favorite of the three top shelf restaurants we dined at in Halifax. Located in a small boutique hotel, Stories is a treat for the eyes and the stomach. We shared Duck Three Ways for an app: sliced duck prosciutto, smoked duck, and duck rillettes. Absolutely one of the most beautiful presentations ever. The duck was so good we both had Duck Magret for entrees: again, beautiful presentation, delicious, and ample. Limited selection of wines by the glass, but I was happy with the selection I made. We recommend this restaurant without any reservation, although reservations are recommended. A real treat.
The restaurant has such a lovely atmosphere. Very quiet and romantic. The food is just so good. Appetizer was crab cakes. It had huge chunks of crab plus the base included great shrimp. Mains were tuna and duck. The tuna was so tender and tasty. It has been quite a while since I had such fabulous tuna and it was cooked perfectly. The duck was very rich and flavourful. Great wine to go with both meals. All the prices of food and wine are so reasonable for the high quality. Our server, Kelsey, added so much to the evening. She is extremely personable and delivers outstanding service. Kelsey is a real asset to the restaurant and certainly makes you want to return.
Very enjoyable, romantic dinner. The way fine dining should be. Wonderful staff, intimate atmosphere, and fine food.
Staff were friendly enough, but Stories is entirely overrated. The food was antiquated, underwhelming and overpriced. To be clear: this review is purposefully critical, not negative.
Perfect place for a quiet romantic dinner. Can’t say enough about the food and service. My only regret is not returning sooner.
Easily one of the best and most sophisticated restaurants in Halifax and Atlantic Canada. Impeccable dining and service.
It was a lovely and intimate dining experience with my family. Katrine, our server, was caring and attentive.
The service, the ambiance, the drink in the library beforehand, the balance and fantastic tastes of every single bite we took, the location, etc. Everything was perfect.
Food and service were both fantastic
It was everything and more than I anticipated! The food, Ambiance and service was simply amazing.
Everything was super fresh and delicious. Wait staff was attentive but not intrusive. Beautiful room in restored older building.
An exceptional service and food, a very pleasant and friendly waitresses, nice and pleasant atmosphere over all. We hope to visit you again during our next trip to Halifax.
Perfect from beginning to end. Incredible service; water and bread promptly served, never had to ask for refills of wine or water. Food was delicious (salmon and steak), with flourless chocolate cake with coconut ice cream to finish the feast
Nice wine selection
Great food and service
Food was delicious although I found crab cake a wee bit bland
Salmon and Duck Magret perfect
Very elegant restaurant. Small, quiet and good for a formal/informal date with friend.
This is a lovely high-end restaurant, but kind of “old-school”. I’m old myself, but a more youthful spirit, and approach to food would be welcomed. There were no vegetarian entrees or vegetable-centric menu items (even after inquiring). The food was delicious, but way heavier than I wanted or needed, the atmosphere is a bit stuffy, and it didn’t need to be.
The high-end restaurant market in Halifax is crowded. Get with the program! The service was fantastic, I might add.
Best place in Halifax. I've been saying it for years and will continue to do so.
Started with the crab cake, which was very fresh and tasty. Then had salmon and Guinea hen. Both were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. Had chocolate mousse-like dessert and berry tart with cassis ice cream. The plating was fabulous and they tasted tasting just as good. Would definitely recommend this restaurant. This was the best we had in Halifax over 10 days.
This place is ranked #1 and, in our opinion deserves it. We were staying at the Halliburton so it was super convenient. We reserved well ahead.
After a review of the menu we found we were more interested in the appetizers so we ordered two each: goat cheese salad, crab cake and scallops (x2). They were all excellent
Our servers were especially interesting because they took the time to explain the composition of each dish.
In addition we had 2 gins and 2 glasses of wine. Total bill with tip was CAD 125.
Best restaurant in Halifax by far
Great food (with portion sizes in line with European fare), friendly and attentive staff with a relaxed and intimate ambience.
My wife and I were celebrating our 8th anniversary. We had a wonderful meal everything was amazing and well presented. The safe were very helpful and well informed about each dish.
I enjoyed the meal and the surroundings but found the menu limited.
From the minute we entered till the time we left we received first class service and the food was exceptional.
With so many choices in Halifax, it is difficult to chose a fine dining restaurant when we visit. We decided to give Stories a go since we had read several reviews. The staff was amazing. They had answers to any questions and when they didn't know, they found out. For our starters we had the goat cheese and the queen crab cake. I have to say crab cakes are usually my go to. I had high expectations and it was bursting with crab. However, the rest of the dish was a bit flat on the flavor side of things. Beautifully presented however. The other starter, the goat cheese was stellar. Beautiful mix of greens, candied nuts and the goat cheese was beautiful and silky. It made us want to source some for ourselves. My partner had the game (bison) and I went with my other fave, seared tuna. The bison was beautifully cooked (rare) and seasoned perfectly with just salt. The meat spoke for itself. My tuna which was rare also was beautifully presented. However, I thought it would be sliced to be presented and was not. therefore, a bit difficult to slice with only a butter knife. I felt there was an overpowering basil flavor to the tuna that was a bit off putting. Still, it was cooked perfectly. The resto is perfect for that fine dining experience with intimate setting. Their wine selections is definitely top notch. The wait staff are lovely and professional without being too stuffy.
Great service, good food. The carpaccio and the berry tart my husband had for dessert were the highlight of the meal. Dora provided great service and knowledgeable about food. We will go again, main courses not outstanding but good.
