We came to the restaurant after a lecture at the museum. The place was freezing and it took 40 minutes to get the entrees. My entree (pasta with sausage and rock shrimp) was not good. The shrimp were dry and hard and obviously previously frozen and not true rock shrimp. When asked about how the dishes were I told the truth about mine. They took the dish off the bill (not my intention). However, on the positive side, my wife's dish (duck breast) was excellent.
New menu definitely better than previous. I liked the new salad and entre choices.
Have dined here before but lunch today was outstanding. The white asparagus appetizer had a wonderful sauce. My husband’s pasta was delicious and my tuna tartine was very tasty although eating it was a bit challenging.
Always been a favorite. New chef. We are waiting for further returns!
Staff goes the extra mile to ensure satisfaction.
The beef tartar is scrumptious!
A friend of ours took us here last fall and we thought it was great. Had dinner there after a Saturday afternoon performance at Lincoln Center. Everything was good except my wife's entree which was very salty.
I brought my kids and she was so happy to be there. The server offered kids menu with coloring kit kindly.
Great all around!
Great service, terrific food and a very cool ambience..
Storico is an Italian restaurant, located in the New York Historical Society (although you don't have to have admission to the museum to use the restaurant). Although Italian, it has other items so I think all tastes can be satisfied. The menu has some interesting options and everything I have had there (have eaten there multiple times) has been well prepared and excellent. When full it is a bit noisy but conversation is still possible without shouting. Service was excellent. If you are in the NYHS by all means you should eat there.
This is one of my favorite restaurants on the upper west side. It is situated inside one of the city's most vibrant and compelling museums and hence the restaurant shares some of the atmosphere of intellectual density, but not in a pedantic way. The staff is cordial, attentive, but never overbearing. The physical setting is one of its loveliest features: soaring ceilings, graceful lighting, big windows. Puts everyone is a good mood. We took some friends who had never been to Storico and they were clear that they would be back. And so will we.
Mediocre. Bakery basket was excellent, main courses very mediocre. Got an omelette with choice of fillings, the choices were very limited and barely any of the fillings in the omelette.
service is good. nice location, especially if you are attending something at Hs.
Excellent as usual.
Amazing option in the museum!
On the plus side, there is the charming room and the intriguing fact of eating inside the New York Historical Society. It is also commendable that it's a menu almost entirely without the clichés of high bourgeois Manhattan dining. The idea of small plates, the vague allusion to the cuisine of Venice (where one goes from bar to bar munching what are called cicchetti): very much worthy of praise. But the actual realization of things really failed to work on too many occasions. Great saor sauce but why put it on undercooked broccoli rabe; great idea to deep fry zucchini, but even after two tries they didn't seem to know how to do it. We wish this place were better than it now is; perhaps it will become so.
Lovely environment, my friends and I were actually able to talk and hear each other! Service was great and consistent from the MD to our server to support staff, they were professional, caring and hospitable.
The food on the other hand was disappointing. First we were served an amuse bouche that was way to small for three of us. Why not offer to each diner, it wasn’t that extravagant or expensive that they couldn’t (it was chickpeas in seasoned yogurt). The fried zucchini needed more seasoning and was inconsistent, some pieces tasted great while others were oily and tasteless. My Hamachi Tuna (is there such a fish?) was so bland, looked unappealing that I managed only to eat half portion.
I’d love to love Cafe Storico but based on the actual food experience, I’m not eager to try it again.
Excellent and thoughtful service, nice,light- filled, ambience, good food. I had a light lunch catchup with a friend and though a bit noisy at first (very well-patronized and busy) it quieted down and was good to talk. Our waiter was very solicitous and pleasant.
This was a very good place to meet up with a friend while we were at the Historical Society. The food is delicious, the service is great, and the location is incredibly convenient.
Always Great! A “wee bit” LOUD. . . as the Interior wall, ceiling surfaces are Hard and space is double-height
Superb food that won't break your diet, because the portions are so small you can't possibly gain any weight. I ordered flank steak which was perfectly seared with a umami crust and a warm tender red center: presented as a flower with 6 petals of ¼" thick by 2" long steak slices arranged around coulis core. My wife's pasta dish filled a creme brûlée dish and my daughter's salmon was the size of a deck of cards.
Entrees average $25, appetizers $15, drinks $14.
The restaurant is ideal when attending an evening at the NY Historical Society, as this area is otherwise a restaurant dessert. Just enjoy a large late lunch beforehand and bring a Platinum Card.
Second visit in as many weeks, neighborhood gem, excellent food and service
Went to Storico before a Civil War lecture at the NYHS. The food was very very good, certainly exceeded expectation for a small restaurant. Roasted Brussels sprouts were perfectly prepared and my strip steak was as well. Not a place for a fancy business dinner, but great for those in the neighborhood. Service was great.
great food and service. great venue. recommend it!
Very good food (great hamburger) and wonderful service. We were not rushed and could hear each other talk.
Great food, but limited selection makes this a bit of a one-hit wonder. Also, small portion sizes left my wife and I hungry after our meal.
Some flowers in the dining room would add a lovely touch of lively color
I loved Storico when it first opened. Then I thought it lost of bit of its quality and was also disappointed that they took the hamburger off the menu. So I hadn't been back in a while.
I'm so glad I gave it another shot. We had an excellent experience there last Saturday night: Superlative service from the manager and waiter and unusually delicious fresh food. Everything top-notch. Excellent value for money. I am so thrilled to have Storico in the neighborhood! Highly recommend.
This is a hidden neighborhood gem, excellent food, went for dinner on a snow storm night, great service and the location makes it interesting
The two of us had completely different dining experiences. My companion enjoyed his food very much. I did not. Specifically, I don't recommend ordering the foie gras torchon as it wasn't very good. Also, the order for one of my dishes wasn't processed (a "computer problem") until I asked where the food was. I think the problems are in the kitchen. Management was quite nice, however, about making up for this.
Handsome space. Good food and service. Can be a bit loud, but not oppressive. A bit on the expensive side for lunch.
Too many dishes with sauces that taste more or less the same....
I really enjoyed this restaurant. The atmosphere was very nice, relaxing and not noisy at all. The service was wonderful, they facilitated a special request with no problem and the food was very good. Amazing Brussel Spouts. I would look forward to going back.
The food was too salty. Both of our dishes tasted terrible.
Love Storico but would prefer more Classical soft music appropriate to the NYHS. Music was a bit disturbing when we were there
This was our first disappointing meal at Storico. The pasta with olive oil had a veritable pool of oil at the bottom of the dish. The second pasta dish had so much salt it was inedible. And, one of the pancakes was slightly burned on the bottom. Careless mistakes in a restaurant that was almost empty when we began our brunch on Sunday.
Great local option for a meal only or as part of a visit to a wonderful museum.
Exceeded my expectations for an "in-house" restaurant (Historical Society at 77th st.). Few choices but excellent choices at economical prices. All tasted very creative and satisfying. Would definitely return.
This was breakfast. Don't order the omelet unless you like a large slab of cooked eggs wrapped around a small amount of filling.
Otherwise food was very good.
Very accommodating. Great waiter. Good food. Lively lunch crowd.
