Waiter provided special request. Food good, but not provoking any particular comments as we diners were more concerned with the occasion. As usual, the NOISE LEVEL WAS EXCRUCIATING once we got our food, and our reservation was at 11:30. ) The KID LEVEL is part of the problem, so I should probably avoid the weekends. (I'm a member.) Back to the noise: I'm on the verge of offering to carpet the place for you. But you probably wouldn't accept that, as you would constantly have to clean the carpet. (The wood floor is pretty bunged up at this point and looks ugly, btw.) Offhand, I can recall only Le Bernadin as a Manhattan restaurant that has carpeting; I'll bet even there they clean it constantly and replace it relatively frequently. Probably much higher maintenance than Storico can tolerate.
Well, you asked.
Only negative was we felt rushed. Appetizers came out too soon. They kept trying to take our plates. even though my dinner companions was still more than half full.
The menu is rather short but everything was delicious. we shared two aps and one entree. It was perfect for two somewhat light eaters. They could add a couple of menu items and they could improve their bread. But we enjoyed our food and we would go back, for sure.
I would definitely recommend eating there if going to see an exhibit . However, we were also there to socialize with friends over brunch. The food was good but it was almost impossible for us to hear each other speak because of the noise level.
Got there about 11 a.m. on a Saturday and it was near empty. It was a special brunch for a visiting relative who's a history prof and loves Lincoln (great photo op at front of NYHS). Anyway, the people were lovely, service attentive but not nosy, food was fine and reasonably priced. Overall, quite a success - and when we left, there was a line to get in. Oh, and while waiting for the restroom one could watch Houdini extracting himself from a straitjacket while being dangled by his feet. You don't get that everywhere.
Had a wonderful dinner. Strawberry watermelon gazpacho was delicious as was the pasta bolognese.
Our server was also the bartender and gave great wine advice. Skirt steak was burnt and tough, but rare inside as requested.
Situated in the New York City Historical Society and bordering Central Park, Storico is a pleasant place to meet friends. A bit noisy and tables for 2 are a bit cramped. Nice menu, well executed. A little more expensive for the experience than perhaps a less prime location. Decent wine list and an easy place to go after enjoying the museum or dining casually on the upper west side.
There are very few restaurants in the immediate vicinity of 77th street and Central Park West. There used to be two closer to Columbus Avenue, but they closed suddenly in the last year or so.
The setting is beautiful, and the food very good as is the service. The Historical Society is pretty great too.
Pretty spot, noisy, convenient if you're at the museum.
Better for lunch than dinner--few choices at dinner.
My salmon (pricey) came with nary a vegetable or potato/rice and was placed in a flavorful broth.
If you are dieting, get the salmon.
If you want an actual meal, don't.
Chicken was not edible. Food was disappointing. Waiter messed up bill. Won’t be going back.
Very quaint and comfortable with superb service. Close to Central Park. Menu is varied but smaller with choices for any palette. Wine list excellent, little pricey. Good time
Always a good choice on West Side, especially for salads at lunch. The BEST french fries ever. Try to strawberry gazpacho.
This is a real hidden gem in an unlikely location and is especially good if you want to have dinner before going to 'Shakespeare in the Park' or any other event in Central Park. The menu is not extensive but the food is well cooked and presented and the staff are very accommodating and pleasant. There is a small but appropriate wine list and the prices are reasonable. The room is very light and airy and generally congenial being quite quiet which is a bonus.
so wonderfully convenient after a lecture - food is excellent - the noise level is totally overwhelming and really kills conversation
Went there after a lecture at the New York Historical Society. Therefore, it was a little crowded. Btu worse, it was rushed service. We gave our cocktail order, followed shortly with our dinner order, but before the cocktails arrived. As a result we were sipping our drink when the dinner arrived. Too soon.
Beautiful, light-filled, with views of the tops of the trees of Central Park outside of the windows. The service and personnel couldn't be nicer and more helpful. I had a delicious salad for lunch with feta(would have liked a little more), cranberries and other goodies with a lovely white ceramic pot of jasmine tea. My friend had a glass of white wine and a tuna open-face sandwich with a cute basket of fantastic fries. We had just seen the exhibit on shoes, and this lunch couldn't have been better. One block from subway at Natural History Museum.
The quality of the dishes has become superb. The tuna tartare, the salmon entree, the fried zucchini, the white asparagus, the chicken entree. It is a joy to eat at Caffe Storico.
Over the years since Storico opened, the menu has varied and not always in a positive way. But the current menu is wonderful! The quality and presentation of each selection our party of three ordered was absolutely delicious! This definitely was the best meal we've had here. Don't change a thing. Also the waiter guided us to the perfect bottle of wine to go with our choices.
As a NY Historical Society member, I also have a good excuse to go to Storico for its excellent food and lovely ambience. This night, I had Chilean Sea Bass, not often seen on menus these days - cooked to perfection. My friend loves salmon, and he enjoyed his dish tremendously. Wine by the glass comes in 3 sizes. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
The kitchen takes way too long to send out food when the restaurant was only 1/3 full.
Storico is a restaurant where the server really takes the time for you and nothing is too much! My friend eats gluten free and is vegetarian, so we asked if we could get a gluten free pasta and it was no problem at all. The server said that the chef would make a fun gluten free pasta with various vegetables in it! I ordered the Duck Breast, which is very good - the cherry jus adds great flavour to the already very tasty duck. The room is beautiful and the service is attentive and very friendly. I wish I had know about this place earlier! I am definitely coming back!
We arrived at 11:30 for our reservatio. My friend ordered a soup to start which she received relatively quickly. However, we did not get our main course of two pasta until about 12:45. The server was not very apologetic about it. She simply said they were busy. The pasta was very salty as well. The dining room is very pretty and the restaurant well located. The food and service leave much to be desired
Loved it and would go again and recommend it to friends.
Lovely place- and really good food. The gazpacho was particularly lovely.
Many of the appetizers are superb. We especially like the seared tuna, beef tartar, fried zucchini and the white asparagus.
The main course of the duck is also excellent.
We had a confused, inexperienced server at brunch. The food was OK but nothing to write home about. Lovely space.
I took three young friends, two visiting from out of town, to Storico on a lovely Saturday night. We had a wonderful time. Our server was charming, informative and attentive, and the cocktails (orange margaritas) and food were great. The starting cheese platter, which we shared as an appetizer, was delicious, with very interesting accompanying condiments. We four shared two entrees - the risotto and the chicken - and loved both. For dessert we tried the cannolis and strawberry /cheesecake mousse. I’ll definitely go back.
Food was excellent. Service was toooooo slooooow. Very very very slow.
Waiter disappeared after taking our order... he was stocking the bar and doing other jobs. With two other tables occupied, we had to snare him for more water. After 20 minutes and no food we called over another waiter who went to check, had a conference with the manager who said “ everything was cooked to order “... 10 minutes later our hamburgers were delivered. My friend medium was well done, my sauce did not make it “ on the side” and even though I had asked for NO SALT, the french fries were covered with it. Ambience lovely... food basically good. Ruined by the lack of concern. Perhaps if the waiter had written down our order we would have gotten it the right way. Too bad our experience was less than expected.
Sweet restaurant in very central location for an amazing brunch. The Blood Orange Mimosas were delish as we everything our server recommended and we ordered. Can’t wait to return to try the rest of the menu!!
Seated promptly, ordered coffee and tea and when that arrived we ordered our mains. Food came quickly which was great as our friends had a flight to catch. Fortunately from LaGuardia.
great dining before seeing the museum exhibits. If you sit on the banquet, beware that some children at next table might kick!
Food was below average and the noise level was off the charts and several tables with screaming babies. Not what I've come to expect when I dine there. Very disappointing!
Stopped on spur of the moment and found this gem. I have walked by for years and never went in. Great selection, great food, good prices and FANTASTIC service...thanks Lucky
Was glad I had made a reservation as the restaurant was busy. Awesome burger and fries! Service the staff was very good as well - friendly and knowledgeable.
Had to beg for water
Food was over seasoned
Storico is a very pretty restaurant with well prepared, delicious food. The service was good, and the noise level was low. The chance to view the museum's nearby exhibits provided an additional plus.
