Stone's Throw Restaurant
Lovely outdoor patio. Took too long to get cocktails after ordering. Waited almost 15 minutes. Only one server on patio who needed help. Went for Sunday Jazz Brunch. Musicians spent little time playing, more time relaxing. Food was very good.
The food was pretty good but the patio was great. Our waiter seemed to be in slow motion, bringing the appetizers out without plates and in no rush to get them to us. We waited about 10 minutes before the plates arrived. Also we were celebrating a birthday, can't bring outside food and they charge $30 to serve it for you. Definitely plenty of other options for better waterfront dining in the state.
This place never fails. The food is great, the service is spot on and the price is so reasonable. You can choose to sit in the bar area, outside over looking the river or inside in the dining room. All the tables have a great view!! Justin the bartender was great. Always smiling, takes a few minutes to talk and has great recommendations. We go here about once a month...we like to try other restaurants but we always come back here.
The view was delightful and our server Jenna was very pleasant and helpful.
The burgers were very average, salad wilted and unfortunately there was a hair in my salad
for which they graciously gave me a $2 discount.
I don't feel confident enough to go back.
Had another wonderful Sunday Brunch. The shrimp cerviche was very tasty and the stuffed sole was delicious. Everyone at the table had a great meal. The steak and eggs and french toast are our favorites.
Everyone there is so friendly and helpful. Service is always fantastic. It was a beautiful day and a lot of people were sitting outside, but we decided to sit by the window in the bar. What a great view. Stone's Throw is definitely my happy place!
Great view. Amazing outdoor seating. Good variety of food options and great bar menu. Service was excellent. Band was very good.
Excellent food and service and ambiance
Birthday celebration. Beautiful summer evening to dine outside on patio. Nothing better than sitting by the river watching boats go by. Food was excellent. One member of our party ordered roast duck - said it was delicious but serving size was quite small. Seared scallops were superb and portion size generous. Great that you can order from bar menu as well. The view of the river is breathtaking on a summer evening.
Unfortunately the food was so awful even bottomless Bloody Marys couldn't save the day. Latest visit was for Sunday jazz brunch. Gorgeous day, great location, nice music, but genuinely one of the worst meals I've ever been served. Salad looked to have been put up the night prior and the shallots on it cooked to within an inch of ash probably last week. Who can ruin eggs?! Stone's Throw, apparently. Burned bread, over cooked eggs and dried, tasteless potatoes that also must have been prepared days in advance. My friend's meal was equally abysmal: Rubbery mozzarella with tomatoes so under ripe they were barely pink, airplane sized portion of dried out, overcooked something they claimed as swordfish. Hmm, maybe. A genuine shame and frankly a waste of money.
That said, I've eaten dinner here twice and it was rather good (Bolognese, as I remember one meal). Brunch isn't hard, folks. Forget offering a menu your cook seems to hate. - Put out some bain-maries with eggs, sausage, bacon, French toast, pancakes, fruit. Done. Fix it, please. Such a nice place otherwise.
The piece of swordfish that I was served was about 1" wide by 3" long. I mean it was ridiculous the portion size I was given. And the tri-colored tortillas are a joke. The bean salad was the one thing that gave the fish any flavor. Definitely not worth the $19.50 for the meal. You can tell they really weigh every piece of lettuce so as not to give the customer too much for their money.
I will never return again, unless I want to get ripped off.
Jazz band was nice the view was beautiful. The food was good!
We expected better - no waiter was assigned to our table, the food was mediocre and not appetizing- highlights were the view and the duck pizza! Sorry to say we won’t be back!
Love the outside patio. Everything was great. So easy to make reservations online. Everyone there is so friendly. Our server took a little longer than expected to initially greet us so the manager gave us our first round of drinks free. Food was good. Never felt rushed to leave. River view is awesome. Can see all the activity on the water. Only thing I wasn’t a fan of is the table next to us had small children who were very loud and walking around a lot and we were looking for a quiet dinner outside. But that’s kids... other than that everything was perfect.
The food was delicious and the scenery amazing. The menu had alot of different options and I love the fact that you get unlimited mimosas.
Waitress was rude. Food wasn’t cooked to order. Patio was DARK. No lights. Not even canceled on the tables.
We had requested through Open Table seating on the patio. We were shown a table without an umbrella and the sun was unbearable. There were several tables in the shade. When I asked if we could move to one in the shade, we were berated by the hostess that they were fully booked and the tables were for other people who had reservations. Well, we had a reservation too! Of course, no one during the 2 hours we were there arrived at this "already reserved" table. I guess making a reservation through Open Table doesn't count as a reservation? In any case, the food was decent, the service from the waitperson was great. She helped us move the table a bit so there was some shade, but it was still uncomfortable. In retrospect, we should have declined and went to another restaurant. I would recommend with the caveat that you request "SHADE" if you want patio seating as they do have tables with umbrellas. Maybe you'll be lucky!
If I could give more than 5 stars I would certainly rated Stone's Throw even higher. The food was excellent and the staff upbeat and accommodating without being over our shoulder. I am having dinner
there tonight. If I were to make a suggestion it would be to have a larger parking area since I'm thinking like me, they get a lot of repeat business. While atmosphere is important and Stone's Throw has plenty,
the food is truly outstanding, from the presentation, freshness and the quality of the food being served.
Food was great
I just wish I knew wine was 1/2 price the night we were there
I would have had second glass!!
The view is incredible but need to work on the time it takes to serve food (45 min) and the temperature of the food was lukewarm for all 5 people all 5.
Went for lunch with a friend. Beautiful facility on the water, very kind staff, delicious food. I’ll be back.
We've been here twice and will return again. Food is great, prices are reasonable and the service is spot on. We sat outside the last time and it was beautiful. Definitely one of our new favorite spots.
Lovely river view dining. Cocktails and good were prepared very well. Service was very good. Reservations a must. Recommend. We had calamari as an app-very tender with a Thai dipping sauce. The mussels in wine were tender and delicious. The Cream of Asparagus soup was a blow of pure spring.
The atmosphere is nice great water view. Staff is excellent very friendly. Food was great had the scallops cooked to perfection.
Our food was very disappointing. The fish was overcooked and tasted like it had been frozen for months. The duck entree portion was extremely small with barely any potatoes. We will definitely not go back.
Amazing brunch! The food was awesome!!! Took mom for Mothers day!
We were a party of 6 and seated in the dining area with a very limited menu. We were never asked where we would like to sit. When we asked about other food we saw coming out and being served we were told that we were sitting in the wrong section and could not look at that menu. We asked to move to another section and were willing to wait we were told no. If we wanted to see that menu to sit at the bar. We ended up walking out. Not accommodating at all. If there are different menus for different sections you should be asked where you would like to be seated upon arrival.
We were there for the Cinco de Mayo special brunch. It was absolutely one of the best meals I ever had. I had the shrimp ceviche, citrus marinated steak and churros. Delicious! Others in our party had the nachos, cheese platter, clam chowder, omelet and waffles. Everything was perfect. We had a vegan dining with us. The kitchen was very accommodating and made vegan tacos for him . He said they were amazing.
Stones Throw is my favorite restaurant. The food is wonderful, the staff is wonderful, and you can't beat the view :)
Dinner reservation was early Saturday evening. Two out of four of us had to choose something else because they were out of our first entree choice.
I thought our experience at Stones Throw was lovely. We brought our twin almost two year old boys and the staff was very accommodating and pleasant to the boys. They had toddler cups and meals that were great! The boys loved our food too! The hanger steak was so tender and delicious. The NY strip had some tough spots and fat but the flavor was there. Perhaps not the best cut.. The decorations and lake view really made it such a great experience! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend. Just lovely.
Sunday Brunch is a good value ,The omelette was nothing special with diced “deli ham and diner quality, I was expecting better. Attentive wait staff and prompt service. It’s a beautiful setting and nicely furnished. Very generous with dessert portions, almost too generous This was my first time back since the Gordon Ramsey makeover . Will have to give dinner menu a chance.
Recently discovered gem. Location on the river is wonderful. We like the cozy dining room but the greenhouse offers spectacular views. The chef seems to make every meal seem gourmet from the presentation through the taste of every bite. What's so special about a dish of blueberries? A martini glass with raspberry gelee topped with fresh cold blueberries and raspberries crowned with a dollop of fresh cool whipped cream. Heavenly. The staff is friendly and aim to please. The prices are very reasonable considering the quality of the food and service. Go and enjoy your lunch by the river or get cozy having dinner in the greenhouse under the stars.
We have “discovered “Stone’s Throw”Restaurant recently and really enjoy eating there. The food was excellent, however, this last time we asked for our three sirloin burgers to be medium well and all three almost mooed!
Otherwise, the meals have been perfect and desserts sublime. The apple tart was beyond wonderful.
The staff, food, view are something to brag about to friends. We will be returning.
My date and I chose this place because of the good reviews it was getting. Got there on time and we were seated immediately. Hostess was very professional. The waitstaff was a little lacking as we sat for at least 10 minutes before we were acknowledged. Finally got menus and ordered drinks. My beer showed up quickly but my dates drink did not. Waitress finally comes back to the table to ask what she had ordered. 2 minutes goes by and then the drink shows up. No specials that night due to the fact that they had a wedding reception there that afternoon. I ordered bouillabaisse and date ordered the duck breast. My dish was ok, the mussels were dried out and the sauce was just ok. My dates duck came out nicely but the presentation was horrible. Two large chunks of duck meat with the sauce on it and the veggies. The thing that really bothered us was that the side room they had the reception was also access to the deck and the doors were open . As it was cold out that evening we asked them to close the doors a number of times. Finally I got up and closed them.
We were seated in a glass greenhouse with no artificial lighting – not even a candle on the table and acoustics were horrible.
Service was poor and not because of lack of staff. Honestly, our waiter was a nice guy but seemed clueless as to how to be a waiter. Bread was very good but we had to ask for it. 2nd round of drinks was not brought until we were done with our meal, and even then, one drink was forgotten.
Quality of our entrées ranged from excellent (bouillabaisse) to poor. The best description of the diver scallops is odd. When you see a description of a dish that is diver scallops with prosciutto and wilted spinach with a lemon sauce, you don’t expect scallops with no browning, inconsistently cut CHUNKS of prosciutto, a few pieces of spinach tossed on top, and a tasteless sauce. Finger potatoes with not a speck of browning on them. Honestly not sure if these were even scallops - not as small as bay scallops but not the size of typical divers and not one of them was in a single whole piece.
The food was great. Wonderful choices for kids. The patio was open and the view was spectacular.
We went for Sunday brunch. The service and food were outstanding. We enjoyed ourselves and we will be coming back.
We were seated at a window front table as requested. Waiter was very attentive... almost too much in fact, but that was OK. It wasn't crazy busy so he had the time to make sure we were fine. The food was plentiful and extremely delicious! Can't wait to return on a warm summer day so that we can enjoy the wonderful patio, sunshine and music.
Went for lunch, menu was small, food was good. Would recommend and go back.
They renovated recently and the food is much better. Drinks are excellent. Decor and ambiance are very relaxing. They were very accommodating of my food allergies and modified/substituted items without a problem. Location right on the river is beautiful and they have a lot of outdoor seating, so we will definitely be back in the summer to sit outside.
Nice formal dining experience, food well prepared, relaxed environment with open view of Housatonic River. The bar menu offers burgers and wraps if just grubbin' a chow down. Outdoor seating and happy hour/live music entertaining time spent.
