   This has always been a cool old adobe and the upgrades since it reopened make it so much brighter and more enjoyable. We sat at a cozy table overlooking the bar - it was private and quiet. Our server was great too but the highlight was the food. Everything we had was delicious - grilled bread & butter, squid salad, greens salad, roasted chicken - and the wild mushroom soup was off the charts!

   An amazing dining experience! I got the pesto tagliatelle and my partner got the duck confit. Both are a must. Incredible ambience, interior design on point and awesome service. Also, PLEASE GET the butterscotch dessert thing (unfortunately forgot the name), but that was the best thing I’ve eaten in a WHILE.

   We had returned to Monterey to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary. So, first let me say that the food at Stokes was excellent, the wine delicious, and the service impeccable. We had drinks at the bar before dinner and they too were superb (as was the bar service). What was not good was where we were seated. Rather than a place in the lower quiet dining area (there were seats open & we had a reservation) or even one of the quiet rooms upstairs, we were put in a booth overlooking the bar area. Lots of chatter from the bar patrons plus the music being played at the bar made a mockery of the quiet dinner I'd hoped for. Part way through our dinner, the host tried to seat a couple next to us and they refused, asked for a different table, and were accommodated in that request. So the blame is entirely on me for not requesting a different table before we were committed to the noisy one we got. It might be a fine table if you like the energetic vibe coming up from the bar below but it is A TERRIBLE LOCATION for any kind of quiet, romantic dinner.

    Our dinning experience as always was amazing, just Rachael is as well. Our meals were wonderful. One group seated was very loud for the upstairs room, but we all experience this at one time or another. Stokes Adobe is the ultimate experience, thank you!

    There are few things on the menu that I would recommend. It seems they have become complacent. The menu has remained unchanged, and frankly a bit boring. The staff is amazing as is the service. The chairs are uncomfortable and the benches need to be redone. They have seem to rely on their reputation to bring people in but that will not last for long, especially if the locals get bored.

    Mood and service were excellent. My husband's meal was a little skimpy, but very delicious. The butterscotch Panna Cotta was outstanding. We will definitely be back.

    From the start, the professionalism of all the staff members was outstanding . We were greeted warmly by the hostess and shown to a nicely appointed table . Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the food and the preparations that went into the dishes . I was also impressed by our waiter’s wine knowledge as he went over an adjoining ‘s table choices of an old world Bordeaux or a new world merit age . I would highly recommend this restaurant .

    Not a lot of choices on the menu for food and wine. Both are on the pricey side. The mixed green salad was just lettuce leaves, nothing else. Very plain and boring. The pesto pasta was tasty, but portions are small. The duck confit was good, but the sides served with it were not good. Ordered a second glass of wine and the waiter must have forgotten about it because I finished my meal and still wasn’t served it. I cancelled my order. This was our second time here and the experience was not good. Will not return!

    The food was delicious! The building is amazing and has many wonderful rooms with beautiful light. Staff were very friendly and professional. Manager, Andy is a wonderful storyteller about the history of this historical adobe. Wonderful art collection of William Rice, a local Californian arts and crafts artist. We thoroughly enjoyed our Mother’s Day dinner!

    Enticing menu. I had the duck confit which was the best I have had in many years-- crisp with a nice orange sauce. The Cesar salad was fresh and flavorful. The apple tart for desert was uniquely presented. Very tasty. We had a booth on the second floor which was nice a private, but since it was above the bar, it was a little noisy. It added to the festivities and most of the restaurant would be moderate sound levels. We brought a couple of top of the line cabernets that went very well with our dishes. The staff was very professional in opening and decanting the wines.

    Highly recommend—came here for date night. Everything is thoughtfully designed and executed extremely well—the menu, cocktail/wine options, ambiance, layout, service. Everything is on point.     Really good, tasty food! Delicious, well seasoned and simple. Salads and side vegetables were simple - tasty but not interesting - not a great introduction. Appetizers sounded good, but we skipped because we ordered salads and that seemed like too much food. I wish there were more vegetable sides or more interesting salads - I love vegetables and there were two salads. I loved the chicken - the grits were well seasoned and rich and deeelicious. The chicken wasn’t over cooked and was simple but nicely cooked. The tart mushroom, asparagus and frisée side was a nice acetic balance to cut through the richness of the mushroom cream and the grits. Really nice, satisfying and yummy. My cousin said the bolognese was the best he’s ever eaten, in Europe or here. The pesto pasta was well seasoned and simple. The butterscotch pot de crème was a delicious finish - rich and sweet. The topping was odd - a light, vanilla bean foam? But sooo good. Thanks so much for good food!!
