At half past three, everything stops for tea. Tea consumption increased dramatically during the early nineteenth century and it is around this time that Anna, the 7th Duchess of Bedford is said to have complained of "having that sinking feeling" during the late afternoon. At the time it was usual for people to take only two main meals a day, breakfast, and dinner at around 8 o'clock in the evening. The solution for the Duchess was a pot a tea and a light snack, taken privately in her boudoir during the afternoon. Later friends were invited to join her in her rooms at Woburn Abbey and this summer practice proved so popular that the Duchess continued it when she returned to London, sending cards to her friends asking them to join her for "tea and a walking the fields." Other social hostesses quickly picked up on the idea and the practice became respectable enough to move it into the drawing room. Before long all of fashionable society was sipping tea and nibbling sandwiches in the middle of the afternoon

I visited Stoke place with my family for afternoon tea. The property has a long history and one of the most beautiful in the area. We ordered an afternoon tea & a cream tea. To my dismay, the presentation & food quality was below standards. The scones were cold, hard & brittle. The cakes were not fresh, the finger sandwiches were ok. The Assam tea was not strong and quickly got cold . The teapots were cheap looking and looked like French press.

Went for bottomless brunch in the wigwam with friends and it was excellent. The free flowing Prosecco for 90 minutes was great and the waiter was very good at topping up our glasses constantly. The food is adequate and would be better if it was sat 2 course. But it is great value for money with the Prosecco and the amazing DJ!

Ambience and service was very good . For us put off was limited option for vegetarians and Halal diners. Overall it’s expensive . Moreover they need to add little extra light at night time it was too dark .

Was able to make a booking for 9pm for some dinner. When we arrived we said we had a booking and the staff were very rude and simply responded “no you don’t”. They then went to check with the manager they said they stop serving food at 9. Despite having a booking we were not server or phoned before hand to say food is stopped at 9pm. There was no apologies from the staff, they were speaking to us as if it was our fault. Would not recommend.

Lovely place, beautiful scenery, music a bit too loud, food could be better for the price. Had a Caesar salad but no dressing, hardly any bacon or croutons, just chicken and lettuce - an expensive salad.

Awful! The ambience is non existent and the building is in a state of disrepair. You feel like you’re walking into a rundown hotel. There were external pizza deliveries taking place while we were there. It’s such a shame as it could be a really nice venue if looked after.
