Stoic & Genuine Ratings and Reviews
Our Welcome. Service. Food. Wine. Cocktails. Dessert. All amazing. It’s our 2nd time back to this wonderful place and tonight was no exception. We also dine with a very restaurant friendly 2.5yo so to be acknowledged and welcomed as we were is just so appreciated beyond words. We will always return to this wonderful restaurant. Thanks for making our Denver staycation even better than imagined. And especially our amazing waiter tonight. You’re awesome!!
This is our goal to place before going to the Trans Siberian Orchestra concert. Plus have stopped in after a Rockies game. Oysters are fabulous. I had the salmon sandwich which was to die for and my friends had the tuna melt and the crab cakes which they said were outstanding.
Not a good lunch spot. Celebrating a birthday - was noted in the rez and restaurant ignored that. Regardless of that food was non existent. Smallest portion of swordfish I’ve even seen in my life for $20. Everything was subpar, service - time to get food, quality of food.
Won’t be back and would not recommend for lunch.
Excellent and unique small plates - well prepared by a talented chef. Great location in Union Station. Very good service by our waiter. Everyone was friendly and made us feel welcome. We happened to be there on a perfect 70 degree afternoon in mid-November and ate outside. We'll be back soon...
The quality of the food was excellent--what there was of it. Stoic is not the priciest joint in town, but in the lower part of the upper range. I don't mind paying for a high quality meal, but I do object to paying for it and going away hungry. The appetizer (Spanish Octopus), precious as it was, was barely visible on the plate. My main, poached fish, was about 2-1/2 inches square.
One more thing: I wouldn't describe the noise level as "energetic" but, rather, "extremely loud" (not an option on OpenTable). All four of us agreed that it was difficult to hold a conversation, comfortably-- but that seems to be the way of Denver dining these days. For some reason, restaurateurs seem to thing that deafening sound equates to "lively"...
That all said, I might consider going back to give them a chance to redeem themselves.
The cocktails were great, the appetizer we had was good, and the waitress was friendly. That said, the restaurant was really loud (sounded like club music bass). We like lively, but we were having to shout. We also had a table that I faced looking directly into the kitchen. So behind my date’s head I was looking at a pile of bags of bread, take out containers, rags and a kitchen worker eating off a baking tray in his hoodie before he left for the night. The kitchen mess was entirely distracting so we decided to cancel our entres and go somewhere quieter. At that price point I would expect not to be looking directly into a kitchen is disarray. After we told the waitress we were leaving they did change the music and the noise level dropped considerably. I really wanted to love this place but it just wasn’t for me.
I came here with a friend for a nice birthday dinner and it exceeded my expectations. Our server was nice and attentive, but wasn't super helpful with recommending dishes. They were very accommodating and informed about gluten free options though which was nice. We got the scallop appetizer which was delicious, and for dinner, the surf & turf, which was highly recommended and the rock fish. Rock fish entree was very good, but the surf & turf was over salted for my taste, and not overly impressive. Prices seemed very reasonable to me, and serving sizes were large. I ordered a cocktail for dessert, which was amazing and they comped it for me since it was my birthday, which was very nice, and also gave me a card and free cocktail for next time I come in. Overall, very nice experience. Will definitely go back.
I order the special for the day. The pan fried white fish was served with a rich cream sauce and fries. The food was good but I was surprised that the sauce was bland! This surprise will not stop me from going again. The restaurant is small so reservations are recommended.
We had guests from out of town and they are self described "foodies" and very adventuresome. They had been to Denver several times and we suggested Stoic and Genuine. Suffice it to say, S&G lived up and exceeded our expectations and our guests were effusive about the food, service, and overall experience.
Amazing ambiance within Union Station and the quaint dining room of a chic and eclectic interior, the restaurants manager Jessica is incredibly accommodating and the staff attentive and welcoming, timing throughout courses is very well done, food was outstanding especially the calamari and surf n' turf, highly recommended all around!
My boyfriend and I were in a search for Lobster Rolls. After searching online and reading multiple views we decided your restaurant would be the best dining experience for not only what we were craving for but for us to celebrate our anniversary. We were very disappointed to see that the item we searched for just days before making a reservation is no longer availible. According to our waitress they are unable to update the online menu to the new items they actually serve. We decided to stay and give you guys a shot. For what we paid the portions are very small mostly appetizer sized portions. Honestly, I know we could of had more bang for our buck at other restaurants near by. Service wasn't anything special. We definitely felt like the last table of the night with very little contact from our waitress. There was no recommendations or any conversation of items features on the menu. We were just handed menus and left at the table for about 15minutes before our order was taken. The only plus we got from the dining experience was that we had a reason to visit the beautiful Union Station.
First timers. They have a very creative and delicious cocktail list. Several home made Grannitos really add fun and flavor to a creative cocktails. The one with allspice was incredible. Overall, the food was very good. We had oysters that were delicious. The entree of a New York wrapped ahi filet was creative and delicious, although on the small side. Still had some Palisade peaches for pie, which cannot be beat. The only negatives were where we were seated. Very noisy with kitchen noise, and not very attractive as it seemed like we were in an area that was an after thought. Our server must have had tables in another wing of the restaurant as we didn’t see her often. Will try again, since the food was good.
If you're really hungry and do not eat RAW oysters, this is not the restaurant for you.
They specialize in fresh, flown in daily seafood. Portions are very small but wonderfully designed and prepared. The Surf In Turf is their best dish featuring prime rib with raw tuna carved in the middle. I do not eat raw oysters and had to fill up on corn bread after eating an appetizer and entree.
