I always wanted to dine here and thought my 60th birthday would be a good time. They announced there closing but I did not expect what happened. We had a 5:30 reservation but were. OT seated till 6:00. They were. Usu selling there stock alcohol. Once seated they let us know there was only 1 dinner entree left and a burger, some sandwiches. I ordered the lobster bisque, which was good as was the raseberry cheese cake, but the chicken was disappointing and the server was scarce. I wish I went elsewhere but would have thought I missed out on something special.
A sad end to a great place. All of the tables in our dining room received horrible service from the same waiter. A manager was called and really did nothing to improve the service. In talking with other customers there we can see why they went out of business.
We went to the Stockton Inn because it has been a favorite of ours for many years. We were sorry to get the notice that they were permanently closing on the 16th so we wanted to see it one more time.
I can't believe that they are closing. Thirty five years of wonderful memories here.
We made a special trip to this establishment because it was due to close the next day. Well worth going but the atmosphere within was somewhat gloomy.
Sorry to say they are closing Sunday and we wanted to go before that but the restaurant has already checked out. No tap beers, many items on the menu not available, service slow to non-existent. Still a beautiful place to see but don't expect much.
So sorry it's closing. A real gem. I hope the next owner takes good care of it.
French onion soup was awesome! Ny strip steak was amazing! Raspberry cheese cake was great as well. Good all around.

It's a shame this place is closing down. Wanted to go visit one more time before they shutter the 300 year old place. Menu is paired way back and showed they were very short handed. Our waiter worked his best , but being only one there was hard I'm sure. Hopefully will reopen with other great team and chef. I'll miss the Stockton Inn
Ok so here's my experience. service: attentive and not overly done. Just right. Atmosphere: charming just like it was 25 years ago:. Price: in line with any other restaurant in the surrounding area. Food: awesome. I have no idea where any negative comments about this place come from. I absolutely enjoyed everything and especially my appetizers. Mussels were perfect. Steamed lobster with pork bellies was to die for. Braised short ribs one of the best I ever had. Seared halibut perfectly done. I've been fortunate to travel the world and eat at the best places on earth the past 30 years and this place would be a keeper on my list of top places to go. It's a shame I did not rediscover this little gem earlier.
Sadly, the owner has decided to close the inn, effective July 11, 2016, and put it up for sale.
It seemed to have changed drastically since our last visit 6-8 months ago. Back then, we had a terrific meal and talked about wanting to go back. This time, menu had changed, a few apps were good, soup disappointing and unfinished. My meal, which was a Scallop special, wasn't good at all. So over-salted I couldn't eat whatever it was on my plate with the 4 scallops. No vege served. We won't be going back, neither will our friends.
Classic tavern on the inside and a beautiful patio and water fall for outdoor dining. Went on a Friday night and service was friendly, and attentive. My wife and friends loved the specialty cocktails mulled with fresh fruit (mulberry was one that I remember). I had the salmon and found it to be well seasoned and nicely cooked. All enjoyed the night and will be back,
I would recommend the Tapas, unfortunately, that was why we returned, and it was not available. The setting is great, but very understaffed. Our server was covering every table, both inside and in the outdoor garden area. We had to ask for the table candle to be lit and for lights to be turned on as the sunlight disappeared. We waited at least 10 to 15 minutes for our drink order to arrive. The food order arrived timely, and it was very good. Our server said he was sorry for the delays, but we could see that it was not due to any lack of effort on his part. All staff we could see (3) were very young. Our server said he had only been serving for a month. Staffing is a management problem. Maybe the business is suffering for it because we also went to other restaurants in the area during our stay, and they were more busy and better staffed. We had a much better service experience during our December visit.
Ambiance was beautiful but the kitchen was not flexible with order. The chef refused to substitute a small salad for fries or sauté up mushrooms/onions to top hamburger platter. Portions are on the small side as is the glass of wine.
Terribly overpriced for the food that was delivered. We originally booked because of a special Father's Day menu. A few days before they called to tell us the menu was no longer offered but we kept the reservation anyway.
The $17 burger couldn't hold a candle to the much cheaper, much better burger from MOO Burger in New Hope. While it's a different kind of establishment, it's close enough that it makes you wonder how this place even stays in business for lunch.
Our expectations were high based on friends opinions. However we were a bit disappointed with the fact that the rear patio was closed. We asked about the opening of the patio (where the falls are) and were told that there is no set time of day that it is open but that it's opening was based on weather. (I guess partly sunny, 77 degrees does not qualify as good weather).
I must say the ribeye steak and vegetables were the best I have had in a while. Great Job Chef!
Setting is lovely. Service from our waitress was excellent, however when they brought my burger and fries, no catchup. Catchup bottle itself was kind of gross once it came.
Food was good, not great. You're paying for the atmosphere, not the food.

Perfectly fried calamari in a light batter, superb seared tuna , excellent salmon.
Always the tiramisu for dessert. The yummy biscuits reappeared, thank you Heath, much appreciated. Are they there to stay?

The service was only fair even though we were the only table seated. The food was less than stellar with medium size portions and too spicy tomato sauce on linguine and scallops(only 4 on the plate) which should have been a white sauce. However, the few scallops were nicely prepared and quite tasty.
Even with it being "happy hour' the drinks were fairly pricey and the entrees came without bread & butter. Soup and salad were extra but quite enjoyable. All in all it was a long trip for an overpriced meal. My wife and I were there about 15 years ago and were shocked over the many negatives we experienced this time. New chef...owners...?????
I think it was an off day for them. Food was burnt, service was slow and inattentive. Not sure f I will give it another try?
We were disappointed. The service was slow. We had not gotten our drinks and the waitress wanted to take our meal order. The waitress poured my second glass of wine at the table (I had not purchased a bottle). I found that odd. The food was average. My husband ordered a filet and he got a strip steak. We will not be going back.
Our first visit to the Stockton Inn will most likely be our last. What was meant to be a special birthday dinner was very disappointing from start to finish.
We waited a while after being seated to be acknowledged by our server. After she took our drink orders (one cocktail, one bottled water, and 2 regular waters, she brought the regular water and an unopened bottled water. It had the type of cap that needed a bottle opener. We thought our server would open the bottle and pour a glass, but instead, she walked away. Our initial impression was that she was inexperienced and improperly trained. After another short wait, our server took our order. She took the appetizer order of one of our party members and then moved to the next. I asked if she was going to take her dinner order, too. She said she’d come back to that. Instead of going around the table and take each person’s appetizer and dinner, she takes the appetizer order and then the dinner order. After about a 25 minute wait, the cocktail finally arrived but only after asking for it.
Our appetizers finally arrived after a nearly half hour wait and after asking why the delay. We only ordered soup. Again, waited another 25 minutes, before entrees arrived. The pork tenderloin, 4 very small, thin slices, was dried out. There was no cream in the morel cream sauce; it was more like a brown gravy with bits of dried mushroom. The lobster mashed potatoes were missing. When mentioned to the server, she said she thought we didn’t want them. We have no idea why as nothing was ever said otherwise. When the potatoes were brought out, they were lukewarm. One party had scallops. They were underdone, and only seared on one side. When we finished dinner, all we wanted to do was leave. After our server brought our check, she went outside and was chatting with the outside hostess . She did this a few times. After waiting (again), we had to go outside and get her in order to pay the check.
Each year when we visit New Hope Pa., we make the trek one town over for the Historic Stockton Inn. Our waitress was wonderful and attentive, the food is always innovative and fresh, excellent presentation- my wife enjoyed fresh Halibut and I always look for the Filet and reduction sauce. We were seated outdoors next top a hillside waterfall for the most romantic setting.
Good dinner at the Inn. Potachos, always reliable, pork belly and lobster tail combination, Excellent steak au poivre . scrumptious tiramisu'.
The otherwise good bean based dip with crackers is still a poor substitute for bread which is no longer served. And those scones of the past were so delicious!

Over priced wine and ave to good food. There are many other historic restaurants in the area and we would not return on a reg basis. Hi noise level in the back room.
We went to The Stockton Inn for Mother's Day and had a 4 p.m. reservation through Open Table. Because it didn't specify on Open Table that it was a brunch, we assumed it would be a regular dinner menu. As it turns out, it was still the brunch buffet with choices like eggs, French toast plus a few things like salad, chicken, fish and pork. The dessert table was picked over and there were just a few choices left. Honestly, it looked like a lot of the food had been sitting around for a while. Our bill for four people was almost $250 which we could not believe. For that price, you would expect a carving station, fresh seafood, complimentary beverage, omelet station etc. On a positive note, our server was great and attentive to whatever we needed.
We love the location and the house itself, but the food on Mothers Day was not up to par. The food on the buffet was not warm and very bland. When I received the bill, I just about fell off my chair. It was very expensive and it included a 20% service charge, which was not disclosed when I was handed the bill. There are not any buffets worthy of a 20% tip and definitely not this one. There's no reason this restaurant shouldn't have world class food, but it seems to have gotten worse over the last couple of years. I highly recommend the bar on a Friday or Saturday night, but you would do better eating in Lambertville or elsewhere.
The Mothers Day Brunch was just very ordinary food........Nothing special.......not nearly as good as the regular menu.............and the price was $50 per person.
I have been to the Stockton Inn a few times since the year 2000. The food and service was always super. When I saw the ad for a Mother's day Sunday Brunch for $50.00 a person, I was thrilled. I never even asked to see the menu. What a disappointment. What food was there was cold. Even Fresh trays were cold. There were no carving stations no omelet stations. The Brunch was from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Our reservations were for 2:00 PM. In all fairness to the Stockton Inn, there must have been hundreds of people there over that six hour period. We were the only people who complained to the manager. Most of the people there were local and are not used to exceptional food. We were also the most formally dressed I was very involved with the local Habitat for Humanity Chapter and there are six home in the area that I helped build. I stopped to say hello to one of the families and she told me the restaurant is not what it used to be. The day was not a total disappointment as the are along the Delaware River is beautiful and we enjoyed sight seeing. We had travelled 33 miles to get there.
We attended the Mothers Day Brunch at the Inn today. There were five of us seated in the overflow room near the check in desk. While the inn is lovely and the renovation makes it attractive, the buffet was beyond disappointing. For $50 per person, I got no carving station of any kind. There was a tray of lox, capers, etc but no bagels, just stale rye toast points. There was some kind of pork which was terribly dried out. There was a chicken dish which was supposed to be warm, I assume, but it was cold. There was an assortment of sweets on various trays which were picked over by the time we arrived (12:30), and when I went to get a plate for the fruit, I had to sort through the stack for a minute or so until I finally found a clean one. We had one orange juice, one mimosa, one bloody mary, one glass of wine and at the end of this, less than stellar experience, our bill was over $350. You can do the math to see the average cost per plate for a significantly sub standard breakfast buffet. The service was fine, but I will not be back. Awful value for meal. Bad food. But our sons were with us so that's really what mattered.
Server was friendly. Enjoyed the ambiance. A little pricey for the selection of food offered... no omelet station.
the Inn is a beautiful, aesthetic minded space in and out.....the food is very good....the prices were quite high and the service was by very young servers...additionally, without notice a 20% service charge was attached for a buffet! really? now, that's gouging no matter how you look at it....good place but to add that service charge for someone to pour coffee and clear plates was a bit too much...
Service was awful - one course served on top of the other, water glasses left empty, long stretches with no server stopping by the table - a lot of money, too much for such poor service
Service was slow, I think they just did not have enough wait staff. Food ok, it did taste good. I don't think they have a pastry chef so no bread ( pita chips in a basket served) and dessert is basically mousse or ice cream . The place was full in the front rooms, so noise level was high. Request seating near the back entrance for a more quiet experience. Two of us had the shrimp/crab meat special, the portion size was small, taste was good. We also had halibut with a request for a side of vegetables. The vegetables were brought to the table as they were clearing the dishes. There is also a less formal menu option, sandwiches, burgers which might be the way to go. The Inn is beautiful, can't beat sitting outdoors on a nice summer night, near the waterfall. The bartender and cocktails are great and there is a good , vibrant bar scene here. Bottom line we will return, I hope the chef continues to refine the menu, increases the wait staff numbers, and continues to work at making the Stockton Inn the special place it has always been.

The Stockton Inn is a charmingly nostalgic, historic restaurant that has not succumbed to the temptation to modernize the decor. If you want to feel like you are in rural New Jersey and not Manhattan, you will feel at home here. The updated menu has just enough options to offer something for everyone's tastes without being overwhelming.
The Stockton Inn is a lovely place where you can actually hear and carry on a great conversation. The bar is super cool. I'm going back next weekend.
The food was delicious, the service prompt and friendly and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. An added benefit was being able to watch the Kentucky Derby in the bar -- great fun! Thank you for a pleasant and memorable (for the right reasons!) evening.
