This place is brutal with their reservations. We have been here multiple times but the last two times have been horrible. On the previous visit, we had a 9pm reservation and we were not seated until 10:25. We decided to give it another go on this trip to San Diego, hoping that the previous visit was just a one off anomaly. It wasn't. We had a 8:30 reservation and we were not seated until 9:35. It completely ruins the night when you are forced to stand outside waiting an hour+ for your table. The food was pretty average to be honest. It was a $240 dinner for two with an average steak and a 1 hour wait with a reservation. With so many options in the gaslamp area, I seriously doubt we will be returning. With the line outside, I am not sure they will really care about my review, but it was disappointing to say the least. Terrible experience.
We made reservations for three at 830 on a Saturday evening. We arrived at 815 and I was told they were clearing a table and would be seated momentarily. Over the course of the next 90 minutes we inquired about our status. The hosts were rude and offered no apologies for the extended wait. At 945 we were finally seated again with no apologies. The waiter was super friendly and helpful with dinner selections. The blue cheese salad was good but watery. My fillet was cooked perfectly but was not hot. The drinks were good, the sides were average. We had the Mac and cheese and the mashed potatoes and the corn. All were warm not hot and just ok taste. They added $26 in alcohol they we didn’t have which I caught and they gladly removed it but I normally don’t look at the bill that closely and I’m glad I did. Overall STK in San Diego did not meet and certainly failed to impress. Not worth the $500.
Felt rushed and over priced for the services. I felt a little discriminated and overall rush to get out so they can bring another party. Worst we drove all from far to celebrate a birthday.
One of the most fun places and best dinners out I have ever had! Absolutely loved it!
Great experience, service and food...
Energetic ambiance, but below average food with way above average prices. The steaks, which sounded great, were sub par. Everything lacked seasoning. Nothing had salt. Service, however, was excellent.
Food was over priced, $34 for one crab cake?
$20 for Caesar salad?
Service was not very good had to ask bread, water etc
Cosmo martinis were awful tasting
And music too loud
Great experience!! The GM took great care of us when we wanted to sit inside but our resets was outside dining. He gave us champagne while we waited. Very nice of him. Our waitress was fantastic
The food was terrible and a rip off. Very disappointed as it was our first time there. wife got nauseated
So I ordered the $100 seafood tower. The shrimp were a combination of overcooked, several days old, and definitely frozen a couple of times. After pointing this out to the server they brought more saying 'the chef cooked these just today' - they were still super rubbery/chewy/leatherish.
After pointing this out to the server and the manager who were nice enough to check they said, oh we'll make it up do you want more crab or lobster- we said 'Sure!'. So they brought us two small oysters. We asked what happened to the calamari and mussels - they said 'since you said no clams we didn't bring those either'.
We got the check - and the full seafood tower was on the charge and the server said 'well we did a make good with the two oysters to replace the 12 shrimp'.
Needless to say this is not the experience I expect from STK. I've been to NY, LA, Atlanta, and Vegas locations and all were excellent. This one sadly was disappointing across the board.
We were hoping for a high class environment and meal but the unfavorable music was so loud we could hardly hear each other talk. The food was very average and very expensive. Just expected more for the money.
Horrible service, staff was okay(besides the understanding manager) , and food is not worth the money.
We went back to STK because we had such a good experience the first time we went. The quality of the food was very good and the service was excellent. The cost of the meal was a lot more than we expected and is the only thing that will keep us from returning.
Not a great experience at all long wait time for food and wasn’t worth the wait at all
Loved the great ambiance, and service. Had a great time.
It was mine and my fiancé’s anniversary, and we had decided to come down to San Diego to celebrate we were seated after about 20 minutes with a pretty nice table. Our food did take a while to arrive but our server kept on checking up on us and apologizing for the wait. Eventually after a while we got our food it was cooked to perfection. After we finished eating the manager of the restaurant also came up to our table and apologized and offered us free desert. Overall we were extremely satisfied with the customer service and the kindness of our waiter thank you Mat for your amazing service and thank you to the manager as well.
Everything was top notch here! We had a longer wait than expected but still had a great experience because the service was phenomenal!
Thanks so much for allowing us to share our special moment with you!
Our server was exceptional, food was amazing & would definitely go again!
Birthday and Anniversary celebration
2nd tme here came first time during covod modified operations and was a good time but This Saturday night with no restrictions was an absolute blast the dj was playing some good 90s jams the food was amazing we had the surf and turf thai sea bass which was the best bass I ever had the truffle fries so good my daughters love the little burgers and the mac and cheese the mushrooms and Brussel sprouts were good along with the cocktails. My wife enjoyed her birthday dinner
The food was expensive for what it was. We wanted to sit outside because of COVID but it was very loud. The wait staff was not helpful at some times.
Everything was great. The drinks, the f
Made dinner reservations for a graduation! We had a great experience. It was 5 of us, and we all loved our plates. Drinks and food were exquisite! Definitely a treat. Our server Jordyn was very attentive and made sure we had a great experience!
Food is way overpriced, steaks are nothing special here definitely not worth what you pay for one
Our waitress was amazing. Jordyn provided elite service and it was amazing!!
Great experience at STK! We were celebrating 2 birthdays and were made to feel so special the whole night. Cooper took excellent care of our table and went above & beyond in every way! Can’t wait to come back.
Great service! Our server Jordan was awesome!
Service was amazing, Emma was great and she was new and you couldn't tell. We really enjoyed her. Food was great except their dessert kind of sucks. They need to step up their dessert options. Nothing beats Ruth's Chris' cheesecake.
It's REALLY loud in there, we actually asked them to lower the volume a bit so we could at least hear each other talk, which they did.
Our table was in the back room in the corner and it was FREEZING cold. Something was just blowing freezing cold air under the table. I'm always hot and I was freezing cold. I actually got a bunch of cloth napkins to put on my legs. They were super nice about it and actually turned the AC down a bit to make it warmer and it helped.
It's super expensive but we knew that going in. 5 of us was $1,018. The total bill was $1,418 with the tip. Emma did great and deserved the great tip. We also ordered a ton of stuff that might not be standard for most people. We got a lot of expensive appetizers for the whole table and a lot of drinks as well. But don't count on getting dinner there for less than $100 per person if you are drinking alcohol.
I'd recommend it to others, we may go again but we are about an hour away from San Diego and we'd most likely hit Ruth's Chris for the money and a more quiet dinner. But STK is going for a more energetic vibe, so it's just 2 different experiences.
I highly recommend that they step up that dessert menu. If they had cheesecake as good as Ruth's Chris we'd be more likely to go back. Their cheesecake was just frozen ahead of time I believe, felt similar to cheesecake from a fast food restaurant. Steaks were amazing though as was everything else. Sweet corn pudding is awesome.
Just before taking off, we got one more meal in at STK. The steak I had was cooked properly and tasty, and the brussel sprouts were excellent. However, we had one gripe - the BBQ bacon. It was $22 for one slice of bacon cut in half, that was just okay. Pretty preposterous. Most steakhouses are far more generous in serving slab bacon and don't even charge nearly as much. Just seems silly to do that. I know we have inflation going on but come on 😂
Amazing! It truly was more than we thought it would be! You will not be disappointed but plan to SPEND THAT MONEY!💰😁 (pictures don't do it justice)❤
We came in near closing and they were still super accommodating.
Can’t say enough how amazing our experience was at STK.
The private room we had was amazing - private and spacious. Perfect for a pre event meal with our team!
Matthew took care of ALL our many many requests, offer guidance in ordering the right amount of food for the table, kept our drinks full and our bellies happy. He was very knowledgeable of all the plates and on top of suggestions to make the meal even bette faith appropriate side and saunas recommendations.
The Chef went above and beyond with his culinary skills.
Will do it again for sure. Thank you STK for providing us with an amazing experience.
Great experience! The service was phenomenal!
Josh was great at attending us , everything he suggested was delicious. the food was great , the vibes everything was great !
Food wasn’t to the standard, we are paying top money for less than normal food, calamari was overcooked and lobster linguini was normal and my steak was over priced.
Unlike a lot of the other reviews, we didn’t have to wait a long time to be sat so we were placed in a little upstairs area in front of a TV. The main restaurant area had great ambience and a great vibe, but the upstairs area was lacking. The food was just so so considering the price. If I’m paying $300 for two people to have dinner, next time I will go to a place with better food(Morton’s Larry’s, Flemings, Selanne’s) . Again, the vibe inside the restaurant is great, just wish the food was.
Excellent Steak House! I was very impressed with the service and quality of our entire meal!!!
Had the lobster and it was very watery indicating that it was frozen and it was over cooked. Cocktails are over priced. Steak was not like any other dry aged steak I have had in the past.
