Food was very good but service awful. Girlfriend's birthday meal, table booked for 8.45 but weren't seated until almost 10. Appreciate that often in top New York restaurants you are expected to wait around 20-30 mins after your reservation time and in other places this really wasn't an issue given the bar areas available to sit and have a drink in. However it was the disinterest & arrogance of the 2 Hostesses that vexed - no apology or update given throughout our wait, parties of 2 walking in after us and seated before us- was clear when we were eventually sat around these parties that they were local so perhaps the policy is to sit New Yorkers first before tourists. Our waiter was also vacant for much of the night apart from at the end after we had complained about the experience to the Manager and he came over attempting to charm us into tipping him. Overall I enjoyed the food & atmosphere of the restaurant - especially given we didn't eat until nearly 10.45 meaning I was quite drunk by this time but given it was my girlfriend's birthday and was meant to be a special night I wouldn't go back or recommend. If you want similar atmosphere but better service then head to Tao or Beauty & Essex.
STK was a very enjoyable experience.A lot more lively than most steak Restaurants and I would rate the steaks and service beyond and above will be back on our next visit to NYC . Love it !!
This was our 10 or 11th time here. As always the staff - the food and especially the music/ambiance was stellar. Try the Tomahawk steak for 2 -it is an out of body experience.
Out to dinner with friends
Great food, great music, we loved it and will be back!!
We are in NYC for a few days, we came across STK on open table and decided to eat here since we love your STK Restaurant in Vegas. It was definitely a lil bit of a different ambiance from what we are use to at your Vegas location but, it's was still cool. Anyway Friday night in NYC & it was 71degree outside. We got sat promptly after our reso but, once we were seated the friendly hostess asked if we could move to another table b/c a larger party was coming in. We had no problem moving given we actually got a larger booth right next to the DJ. Everything was going great, except for our waiter who had no personality, & was extremely rude once he realized we were taking one of his 6 tops for a party of 2. As I said earlier it was 71degrees at 8pm and both my boyfriend and I opted out from having steak cause it was too hot!!!! Yes I know it's a steak house and that's what your know for. To make matters worse we ended up ordering the seebass & the chicken. His demeanor just changed even more since we ordered the cheapest items on the menu. Once we ordered we only saw him when he brought our drinks, dropped our dessert menu & the bill. And when I say saw him it was literally just seeing him. He never spoke to us or bothered to ask us how our food was tasting. Anyway by this point we were over the whole experience because we knew he didn't give a s***. It's too bad because I had higher expectations from STK especially NYC!!!!
Convenient, if you work in the neighborhood. Boiler plate food. Nice environment. On the pricey side.
Not great. Overpriced, sub-par food. This is more of a trendy hangout than a steakhouse.
We went to STK prior to a 7:00 pm play. They don't open until 5:00 and I was worried that we would be rushed. But we were not rushed at all. I told them up front about our timeframe and they said there would be no issue. Great wine list, too.
I’m sorry but I was very disappointed I had informed the waiter that it was my sisters birthday celebration but he never brought out her birthday cake. :-( and she was pretty sad about it. So this time I have to give you a poor rating.
Excelente servicio y comida
Ordered the lettuce wedge and it was a little wilted with not a lot of blue cheese. Decent steaks but overall a little over rated restaurant
Everything was just okay. Why? Was it the food? No, the food was great. So what went wrong? We arrived on time for our 5:45 reservation. However, we waited 10 minutes for reception to get off the phone and seat us. Once seated, things went well until dessert. It took half an hour to get a chocolate cookie. It took so long that 2 of the 3 of us had to leave in order to get to the theater in time for an 8pm curtain. Then the person in charge came to apologize. I paid my bill and as I stood up, the cookie was served (of course, I refused it). This was to have been a special dinner with my son. Turned out to be dinner with my son that wasn’t so special.
Quite a lively restaurant with a cool vibe, great if you are in a group, but for a couple it was hard to be intimate shouting at each other across the table.
The food was good but not that much better than loads of other places in the heart of New York, and with the very hefty price it all felt very overwhelming. Filled my stomach but emptied my pockets.
The waitress needs more training. First no bread was brought out until I asked someone else. Second she was insisting that certain food would not taste good without an ingredient despite the fact I informed her I was allergic to it. In her words “it is not the same without crab”. But I’m allergic I said. I just ordered something else because i could see the conversation was not going anywhere.
We had a great time in stk. our waiter was kindly helpful. The food was amazing and the upbeat atmosphere was great.
Amazing dinner with an incredible vibe. From the tantalizing cocktails to the perfectly cooked steaks and fish, everything was executed at its finest. Savoring the deliciousness while listening to the DJ’s tunes adds to the sexiness that embodies STK. A table visit from the chef and the GM, Cihan, made our experience extra special. I highly recommend STK Midtown...worth every penny!
I was visiting from London and I expected the New York STK to be better on service and music. In London we can add the drinks to our table however in this restaurant you have to pay for drinks at the bar separate to the food. (I can only presume this gains more tips)
Being a foreigner I didn't understand how the cheque worked. I ask the waitress who served us our drinks at the bar to split the bill. She gave me the receipt so I showed her on my phone the amount to split it by (which would of included a tip) her response was very rude. She told me "she knows how to divide by two". I didn't understand why she didn't just do that then rather than to pass me the bill when I had already said we want to split? I proceeded to give her my card as in London we pay one by one, she very rudely asked where the other card is then. After taking our cards we were provided our cards back with two separate receipts. We was very confused because the waitress went on to serve somebody else but we hadn't been asked to enter a pin number. So I questioned and said is that it are we paid then? We was responded to with a very abrupt yes but not including tip. Well we wasn't going to tip somebody who literally just took a bottle out of a fridge and gave us attitude. We also expected more of a night club scene to want to stay after our meal, however once we ate due to the awful start to the meal which put us in a bad mood we decided to leave. Food was lovely though, tasted very fresh and the food waitress looked after us well.
My steak was amazing - but was a bit pricey. The asparagus was prepared delicious. Noise level was moderate so would go early if you prefer it quieter.
It’s not that they tried not to give me 1000 points on OpenTable and then fought the dispute even after I showed my paid receipt that gets them 1 star. Instead it was the waiter who poured our champagne into the white wine glasses that were pre-placed on the table. And then pouring the red into Chardonnay glasses. The rushed feeling of appetizers not being finished and salads put on the table anyway. The steaks were good but we would have liked to finish our salads first. They weren’t that busy to be in such a hurry. In fact the place was half empty. We paid our $400 tab and left. We won’t be back.
This was bad from the start. We were initially sat in the front by the bar area (with an Open Table reservation). After waiting 20 minutes for a server, we asked the hostess to move us to the dining room. Once relocated, our experience improved. We enjoyed cocktails, starters, a main course, and an after dinner drink. When the check came, I turned my phone over to our server to redeem our Open Table dining reward. He returned with the check, and then charged us for the entire meal intentionally. We pointed out his error, to which we did not seem surprised at the occurrence. To us, the entire experience seemed like it would be a great scam for tourists to New York. We live within 10 minutes walk from this restaurant and would not return.
We had a great Easter dinner. Amy was amazing. Lamb and steak were both perfect. The building temperature was a little cold, I heard other tables comment on it as well. Otherwise, a great meal.
When we first got to the location we stood there at the desk while the two employees were arguing because a customer wanted a booth then they both walked away with menus to sit the customer down while we waited. The girl got back and didn’t even say hi we waited just a little more before we could lose out patience i asked the lady if our reservation is ready she asked me for the name then goes oh i will get the table ready i told her i made the reservation for a reason then we were seated the waiter was pretty nice he told us about the specials on the menu for dinner but we had to so often ask for our waiter after we got our food instead of him coming to our table. There were 2 other bus boys who were keeping check on all the tables around us if they were clean and dirty plates were picked up. We asked the bus boy to get our check them the waiter brought the check we paid and left the place. The value of the food is horrible its so pricey compare to the quantity you get. We would not go back to this place because of the high priced menu.
Unfortunately the experience was horrible and did not live up to the quality I’d expect from STK. it ruined my birthday dinner. First we were seated sandwiched between several other tables that we couldn’t even get to our seats comfortably. After that we knew we could forget any privacy. Then the waiter came and was not friendly at all. So much so that he never told us his name. We thought he was the water until he came to get our dinner order. He didn’t tell us about any specials or anything. Then once we ordered we never saw him again until he came to throw the check at us. We got a bottle of wine that we poured the wine our self the whole dinner. He didn’t check in once. He had no idea if the food was right, warm, etc. I had the filet Oscar style with king crab and my crab definitely had pieces of shell sprinkled throughout. My husband’s steak was cold. If he had come by once he would have seen we didn’t really eat. After we had had enough we asked another waiter for our check. That’s when our real waiter showed up. He didn’t say a word, just handed us the check and left. Literally the worst $500 dollars we have ever spent.
Had a great pre theater dinner at STK! The waiter got us in and out in plenty of time to make it to the show. Highly recommend the corn pudding and filet!
It’s was great, no crowd.
Dinner and service were excellent. We were seated promptly upon arrival and were greeted by our waitress within minutes. Orders were accurately taken and delivered, inclusive of beverages, appetizers, sides and mains.
Our steaks were delicious, plentiful, and nicely presented. Dessert and coffee were equally attractive.
Thanks for a wonderful dinner experience in a very vibrant midtown NYC setting.
As always, steak was excellent. Enjoyed the tuna tar tar as well for the appetizer. Pretty standard preparation, but really nice textures and flavors— I recall a bit of sweetness, which made it particularly delicious. Wine prices are absolutely ridiculous, but managed to find a good petite Syrah that was marked up less than 3x. Early business dinner (5:30) was perfect. Started getting a bit loud as evening wore on, which made it a bit harder to talk, but by that time, we were ready to go. Made the train at grand central by 7:30.
Great Resturant and fabulous hostess, Ms. Arie. I visit every other month with my eight year old grand daughter or business partner. My grand daughter loves your filet mignon and mac & cheese. Tells everyone she knows how wonderful the food and staff are and about her wonderful treatment when she goes to STk. I think that's saying it all coming from a child.
Sincerely, Paula Boyd
Terrible service. Steak was not cooked to requested temperature. No pepper mill ( they brought a small bowl of pepper..). Cream spinach tasted like it came out of a freezer.
Upmarket, trendy, buzzy, interior-designed restaurant with great food, focused as expected on steaks. Hard to have a conversation at the mid-town NYC restaurant due to noisy young clientele in a large acoustically unfriendly yet beautiful space.
The hostess could not have been more friendly. She was knowledgeable about the restaurant and New York. She also made great suggestions of where to visit and what to see. The waitress treated us as if we couldn't afford their food. The restaurant was slow but she treated us as if we were a hindrance. The gentlemen helping her out were great though.
We had reservations for 10pm. We arrived on time but didn’t get seated until 11pm. The hostess clearly forgot to seat us, because others were being seated that came in after us. Our food then took an additional hour to come out. My steak was undercooked, but I ate it anyways, because our server, Mauricio, never came back to the table to ask how the food was after someone else brought out our food. I have always loved STK and have visited several around the country, but this one had absolutely TERRIBLE service.
Great place. The vibe in this place is excellent. Very professional organized staff. We made a reservation and were seated promptly. Highly recommend late dinner.
Open Table says this is $31-50 - NOT really. Steaks are like $60-$140 and EVERYTHING (including side dishes) is A-la-carte'
2 people for dinner with a drink - salad - steak - side dish & dessert will quickly top $300
Server had really NO clue & was very inattentive. Drinks sat empty most of the time & we had to ASK for the server to get anything.
To boot, the $140 steak 2 of us shared was not anything special & was a giant bone (34 ounce steak that has this foot long bone that was twice as long as the steak & probably weighed 10 ounces anyway.. And the fish was dry.
The hostess WAS nice to us & the place DOES have a nice ambience... but super expensive, food that doesn't approach the price, & we had FAR superior service at a place like Juniors..
Our opinion - Save your $
Lovely restaurant! Service was good and food was delicious.
My boyfriend and I went there with two other friends last Friday. The food was OK. Only the steak was outstanding. However, the service was a bit disappointing. Even we had the reservation, we could not sit immediately because the whole party didn't arrive yet. We had to stand at the door waiting for other friends to arrive. Environment is more causal and noisy than I thought.
Waitress wouldn't bring drinks to us. I walked to the bar to get my own and was stopped by the manager offering a free round it was a nice gesture but my drunks were never taken off our 400.00 meal. Our waitress was switched off our table half way through the meal, we ate quickly paid the bill and left. It was a very discouraging experiwnc3 for the price we paid for 4 people.
Very good evening
Beautiful food. Slightly lethargic service. Will return nonetheless!
