The restaurant was like an icebox. The music provided by the in-house DJ would have been appropriate for a dance club or bar, NOT a high priced restaurant in NYC. Our requests for either issue to be addressed were ignored. The temperature, as stated by the staff, was controlled by the building's management, and the music remained unchanged. Between the cold and pulsating music, we were unable to enjoy our meal. If these were the only issues, we would have ultimately managed. But that was just the beginning. Our food arrived cold. When we addressed the issue, the first comment we received from the staff was that the food was cooked the way we ordered it. Now, our party has eaten in numerous steak restaurants throughout NYC and the surrounding suburbs, not to mention similar restaurants around the world. Our steak preferences never waiver. We have never experienced an answer such as this. We may have something not cooked enough or over cooked, that happens. But to state that food is served cold, when the style is not, is disingenuous. Our food was re-cooked, and came out fine. Our side orders remained on the table, and unless I asked if we would receive fresh replacements, I'm not sure that would have been provided. When we have experienced less than quality service, either a round of drinks or dessert would be offered as an acknowledgement that the dining experience was less than advertised. Sadly, our feeling was that the staff was indifferent. Finally, when the reservation was made, and again when required to confirm, I was asked if this was a special occasion. I wrote on both that 2 of the 4 diners were celebrating their birthday. Why ask the question if there is no acknowledgement? Just a small issue, but when coupled with everything else that we encountered, it was one more detail that made the evening a bad experience.
There are way too many quality steak restaurants in NYC to frequent rather than revisit one that was so un-enjoyable.

Thank you for night for Richard 30th birthday I really appreciate it especially in this nyc weather where no one wants to works and go home later after their shift, they made sure we were okay between every meal!! And the food. was nothing but exceptional!!

Price was not comparable to the taste of the food. Skirt steak was excellent, chicken was dry, ravioli was just OK and desert was excellent. When the ravioli appetizer was requested for dinner, it was suggested that we get the dinner portion, which happened to be 4 of regular size. Unfortunately It was not mentioned that it would be $52 for 4 regular sized ravioli, which was not worth it! Another entrée would have been ordered for a comparable price. We asked for the pre-theater prix fix menu listed on the website. We were informed that it wasn't available. Waitress , checked when website was mentioned and it was available. Had we known the cost, meal would have been different.
They couldn't find my reservation even though I booked through here . The ravioli was so covered in sauce I couldn't see it . Music was very loud, but good Dj. It isn't a good idea for a 1st date . But loved the ambiance. Also the bathrooms don't have a continuous cleaning person . There was alot of garbage downstairs.
We arrived slightly after our booking and then made to wait 20 minutes. Service was polite but slow. Food is bang average and the restaurant was freezing. I saw 3 tables request to be moved from the front it was so cold. Dj changed song ever 14 seconds, and you get to pay 10x more than value for the pleasure. Other than that, amazing..
I debated if I would review I as think I hit location on off night. I’ve been here before with better review.
I had a night out with my 17 year old (rare night, Dad and daughter). We arrived to an empty restaurant. We waited about 3-5 minutes to get greeted, the hostess was very upset at another worker with pony tail because they could not find envelopes to gift cards. I was shocked at behavior in front of guests. We are finally seated, ordered drinks, my daughter ordered a virgin drink as she is only 17. It came out she sipped it, it was heavy loaded with Vodka. I sent it back. Again, restaurant was not busy. Attention to details were missed, water not filled regularly. Timing of food was very slow for a non peak time. We allowed for 2+ hours for dinner before 8pm show. We watched other tables get served dinner long before us even though they came in after us. From the time we placed orders, our entrees came out 50 minutes later, 20 minutes after we were done with Apps. After main course we were going to order dessert but were not asked for 15 minutes after our table was cleared so we ran out of time. The waitress was pleasant but not attentive. I’ll chalk it up to Day after Christmas Blues. There are so many options in NYC (where I work), I do not plan to go back to STK. In fairness, I should mention the food was delicious.
From start to finish our dinner was outstanding. The corn pudding was amazing!!!! The lobster mac and cheese mmmm good. My filet was cooked to perfection and the Alaskan king crab the best my daughter ever had. A must if your in the neighborhood. Thanks to a fabulous chef. Thanks Chef Joelle.
My daughter (26) and her friend (who'd both flown in while working for Emirates Airline) and I were in NYC to celebrate Christmas. This was our one big night out for the Xmas meal! The table was booked before leaving the UK. We arrived for a 9.15pm table and waited and waited until I had to ask again at 10.15pm. The receptionist in the white/red shirt was very brusque and unhelpful. The other young woman, tall, slim with a black see-through lacy jumpsuit was extremely helpful though and seated us at 10.15 promptly. We waited again until 10.45 before our food order was taken and I was on the point of leaving by 11.10pm. which is something I've never considered before. The food duly arrived around 11.15 or so, but the mood was not conducive to enjoying a meal as it should have been. I especially booked an earlier table so I could eat earlier as I did not want to eat after 11pm. No-one was in the mood to drink after our wait. Also, we were sitting in full view of the kitchen door and the orders arriving and there seemed to be some confusion over which table had ordered which meal. Having worked in Catering Management, this is the first time I've ever felt the need to make a negative comment (I'm usually on the staff's side), but my daughter has been to another STK in the US and told me about it. Considering the amount of money paid for 3 Fillet steaks plus sides and the poor quality of service, I'm afraid I cannot recommend the NYC STK unless its service improves.
We waited 20 minutes for our table despite our reservation. When we arrived (7 mins early) we were told that there were tables finishing dessert or cashing out and it would be a few mins. At 10 after I inquired about how much longer and was told the exact same thing. After 20 mins I turned to tell the hostess to cancel the table but there was nobody at the stand, so we left and went somewhere else. We were seated with drinks when I received a call, about 6-7 mins after we left, that our table was ready. Almost 30 mins after our scheduled reservation? If I wanted an 8:30 reservation then I would have made one.
The last time we had been, again for a business dinner, the service was so terrible (e. g. missing server, Check took 35 mins) that we asked to speak with a manager, but there wasn’t one available.
We’ve always enjoyed the food, but something has changed. We won’t be going back.
We waited for a half an hour and when I went to hostess they wouldn't give a solid answer of when we would actually be seated. A couple who had been there an hour were leaving because they hadn't been seated. After an hour we were finally contacted that our table was ready but we were already seated at Capital Grille.
Don't believe this place will have a table for you when you make reservations.
The restaurant was very crowded, Sunday before Christmas weekend. While waiting for our table we ordered drinks. The waitress kept our credit card. We thought it was strange that she didn’t return the card after the drinks were purchased. After we came home the credit card was charged a $1500 charge at an apple store in addition to a declined $6000 charge. We never went to an apple store nor did we charge THAT much during our stay in NYC. WATCH YOU CREDIT CARD!!!
The food was great and so was the service. Jermaine was our server, and he was very attentive and pleasant. Throughout the meal, the staff was quick to clear our plates which was great as well. The food was excellent, steak was done perfectly. We had a party of three and ordered the donuts. I would suggest rethinking the donuts, not very tasty.
The service was wonderful. I ordered a medium well steak and got medium rare. Then they sent my steak back and re heated it. Never had that happen at any steak house before. For the prices you pay you would think they would do an entire new steak. Service 10/10, ambiance 10/10, food 5.2/10, overall I give the experience a 6/10
We’ve been to STK Midtown on multiple occasions before ... however, last Friday’s experience will likely be our last venture there. And that’s too bad because the steak was delicious.
Our reservations were for 10:45pm but it took them 35 minutes to seat us even though there were open tables ... by 11:50pm I finally got up from my table to track down a manager because we had yet to be served water, have our drink order taken, or even our meal order taken. The music was blaring and the wait staff seemed more intrigued with the table behind us who seemed to be giving out tips to any staff they could talk into drinking champagne out of their shoe (yes, you read that right). It was well after midnight by the time we got anything to eat or drink ... then when the bill came, the Manager didn’t even pick up the cost of a single drink ... nothing ... the sheer lack of respect for a customer who chooses to dine with you when so many other options exist ... I’m not a fourtune teller, but I have to imagine this place is going to feel some pain if things don’t change ... they’ve lost at least one customer ...
