Sterling's Ratings and Reviews
This was my second visit to Sterling's for a business lunch. The weather was lovely and we were seated outside. The patio is very large and holds many tables. Our waiter was prompt, pleasant, and our orders arrived quickly. Another staff membe served and cleared - both were professional and courteous. Clearly used to patrons watching the clock which is most appreciated! Cobb salad was ample and fresh.
Although we did have a reservation I was surprised and disappointed by the kitchen's inability to meet our needs We did have a large group of 14 but they should not have been surprised and could have prepared better. They did not have enough food to meet requests of the guests, and not everyone was served at the same time. My pasta dish was served last and others had finished their meal by that time
Their saving grace was our waitress Alexis, she was very kind and attentive to our needs while apologizing for fact kitchen could not provide food we ordered.
It was a great location and the food we received was good so we might consider them again
service was abominable. bus server could not even identify our dishes and there were long waits in between drink orders. i was sitting for almost 30 min before someone came by. and unless there is inventory to support it, the kicthen takeovers are a bad idea. you may save overhead, but when you're missing avocados on an already limited mexican food truck menu it's simply unacceptable.
Met friends for a quick bite before attending an event in the State Room. Although the menu is limited, I had a fish taco that way beyond my expectations. My 3 friends were all pleased with their meals, as well. Although we were surrounded by a loud after-work crowd, we had a great time there! Once we left the upstairs event we returned to Sterling for a cocktail.
I must comment on the amazing service! There was a bartender and only one server for the entire restaurant! She (sorry I forget her name) was masterful in handling the crowd and keeping everything straight! Kudos to her professionalism!
We reserved a table at Sterling's after work for 4 - usually after work Sterling's is very busy - but I guess Tuesday nights aren't their busy period. There were very few tables taken. The service was friendly and prompt. The menu short but varied, the food delicious and speedily delivered. We had oysters (raw, local, fresh), seafood chowder, onion soup, a couple of flatbreads, the fish and chips and the soba noodle salad with tuna. Everyone was happy with the meal. We had a couple of reasonably priced bottles of wine to boot. In the summer, the outdoor patio is fantastic, but crowded. Sterling's is always a good time.
The location of the restaurant was nice and we were seated right away at 7PM but the vinyl booth seats had holes worn in them and looked dirty. We ordered raw oysters as an appetizer and while they definitely were not the best oysters i've ever had they were still pretty good. My husband ordered the fish and chips, which he liked, but I ordered the short-rib grilled cheese and could barely eat any of it. The sandwich bread was very soggy from whatever sauce they put on it and the bread wasn't even toasted, no less grilled. I wouldn't return.
I was a bit disappointed with Sterlings. The biggest problem was it was dead, and they were playing country music, the result was it was a failed atmosphere. One of our entrees was good (The Sterlings Burger), the other was not at all how it was described (The Short Rib Grilled Cheese). It was more like a sloppy joe. The service was really good, which was the only reason that we didn't get up and leave. I felt that we had wasted the one night we have to go out to eat.
Went there expecting lobster as advertised, but no lobster was available. Ordered fish and chips which was tasteless, greasy, and absolutely terrible. Ordered the Thai salad as well which was not fresh, watery, and the noodles were poorly prepared in the salad-"gummy noodles". We were very disappointed with the "meals. It really is just a "bar scene "restaurant with "pricey bar food.
The location is lovely if you sit outside. However, the food was really not very good. I ordered the soba noodle salad. The lettuce was wilted and old, and there were only a few soba noodles. Plus, the salmon that I ordered with it was really over cooked. I won't return!
Sterlings was a target for the $1 oysters, close to our office, and outdoor dining. The service was mixed. Our first waitress was very nice, attentive, and efficient. She left and the second waitress was absent. As for the food, the oysters were a draw at only $1 but they were not great. The staff could not tell me where they are from and they were not cleaned well. I had the fish tacos. Pretty good, nothing to write home about. The beer list was adequate with something for everyone. The outdoor atmosphere was good for the evening. I am not sure if I would go back. I am not against it, just not sure I could really recommend it.
Food was blah, sounded good but very bland dull food. Loved my blueberry crush drink. My boyfriends steak tips were not cooked right and tough. My salad tasted like a fridge. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Boston...go to a different one and not sterling.
I work in the financial district and met 4 other friends at Sterling's for drinks and appetizers. We had oysters ($1 ea.) on special , a couple of flat breads and crab cakes. Everything was very good. Our server and hostess was a attentive and pleasant. I had been there before when it was more crowded and I will end with I would highly recommend Sterling's as long as it is not too crowded.
