We waited over an hour for our food. The waiter never came over to our table to check on us. Once we got our food, it was cold and the waiter never apologized. Once we received our hot food, it was tasteless. Bottom line, the food and service were both awful. I will never eat here again.
Loved the food and the space. The service was not great... we asked for a few small things- ie. napkins, waters, etc. that just never came after multiple requests. The food runners had no idea which tables had ordered what so we’re just wondering around the small space offering what they had brought out to every table until they got the right one FINALLY.
Power out and no heat on a cold day, so we headed to this local neighborhood resto. The resto had about 7 customers in it besides us. We share app, it was barely warm. We let it slide, then our meals came - fish and shepherds pie, they were literally cold to the touch. I stuck my finger right through the shepherds pie and the inside was as if it was pre-made and just taken out of the fridge. We sent both meals back and they reheated the fish to a disgusting rubber texture rather than start over. The shepherds pie was just warm but edible, but the gravy was barely warm too. Total disappointment, but not surprised. This has happened before at Stephies. We used to love this place, now we will never return.
The brunch food looked delicious, however 3 of us at our table went for the salads and they basically consisted of bland lettuce on the bottom, some meat on top. The salad price ($17-$18) was not worthy of what was served. Having more items blended into the lettuce mix - cucumbers, tomatoes. celery, carrots, green beans. marinated mushrooms, roasted red peppers, olives - almost anything would make your offering much more attractive. The salads could use a presentation update. Make your own Bloody Mary was fun - but they were made mostly with mix and minimal alcohol.
My friend and I shared two dishes. The lobster guacamole was a creative mix with large pieces of lobster immersed in a Mexican ambiance with roasted corn and avocado. It was full of surprises and delicious. The branzini was prepared with a crunchy and flavorful crust and delicate, tender meat. I recommend both. The service was friendly and knowledgeable without being intrusive.
Took 10 minutes to get water, then 10 more minutes to get a kids menu. We ordered sandwiches and burgers which boasted "brioche buns" and we ended up with some type of wheat hamburger bun looked like it had come from a bag at CVS and disintegrated making it impossible to eat our sandwich and burger without a fork and knife. Googled images of what they usually looked like and figured out something was way off. But we were starving and our waitress never came back after someone else dropped our food so we ate it. When we were done and she came back we asked about the bun situation and she confirmed that they were their normal buns. Then the table next to us received their burgers and the plate looked entirely different. Drinks weren't great either. Service was mediocre to poor.
Excellent service and ambiance for brunch. I got the skillet breakfast and if was fantastic (and huge). Definitely worth five stars, and worth the trip. On the less perfect side, my girlfriend was a bit underwhelmed by her crab benedict (she preferred my food, much to my chagrin) but certainly did enjoy it and had no real complaints, it just didn't blow her away. Finally, we both really enjoyed splitting their take on a pop-tart. We plan to return.
I hadn’t been here in years but when I knew I was coming to Boston, I had to come back!! I had brunch here and it was as amazing as I remembered it!! I had an executive mimosa with my ham & cheddar omelette. There is nothing like a PERFECTLY cooked omelette!! It was amazing! The Home fries were really tasty too!!
My friends has the breakfast nachos and brioche French toast which they also raved about. I can’t wait to come back to Boston so I can hit up Stephi’s again!!
Funny thing..I hit the Stephi’s at the airport on my way home the next day. Best turkey club and truffle fries.....yummmm!!!
We love Stephi’s, but this time was off.
Despite the restaurant being only half full, we were jammed next to other patrons.
Ordered more coffee, which came, but had to ask for cream. Server cleared silverware with app plates - not replaced.
Most problematic -
I have an allergy to sulfites (in wine), so I asked about my meal (eggs Benedict), and then specifically the sauce. I was assured both were fine. 40 minutes later out comes my Benedict ... with no sauce. The runner said right, no sauce because it has wine. I asked for our server, who came over and said the same thing. I asked why he had said it was okay when it wasn’t, and he said he found out when he put the order in. I asked why he hadn’t come back to ask, because why would you assume I wanted Benedict with no Hollandaise, and he said I could order something else if I wanted. I was so annoyed - no one came to the table in between ordering and service (which was 40 minutes!) and asked if I wanted to keep my meal without the sauce! I would’ve switched my order then so that we could’ve eaten together. No apology, just told it was fine if I wanted to order something else. At this point my friend has her meal. I ordered something meatless thinking it would be fast, or at least rushed, nope. Took 25 more minutes.
No manager ever came to apologize or check on us. The server took it off the bill, but it was more the total inconvenience to us (which could have been avoided).
We finished our Bloody Mary’s and were never offered another one.
We left, and went to Beehive for better food and cocktails.
For a $100 bill (without my meal), I would’ve expected better service.
Went for my twin friends’ birthdays. My experience there in general was lovely. Our server was friendly and was kind enough to take our photos. Had their Boston Creme Pie (OMG - amazing!!!). We did have to wait a bit, and weren’t sat until quite awhile after our reservation time. As a restaurant host myself, I didn’t appreciate the service received by the host upfront. I did make the reservation last minute, but he gave off condescending vibes, and was fake-friendly if you will. I would recommend this restaurant, but be wary of their hosts.
My wife and I went out for our 26th Anniversary and we wanted to go someplace in the South End. This place was inviting, and the prices were moderate. The food was fine, the service was good......our waitress was new. I would definitely go back again.....I must try the pizza!!
So I was excited to eat here as always seems to be packed. Hostess and servers were very friendly and got a table right away. After that things went a little downhill. Service for entree was slowed ( although appreciated that apps were delayed). My cocktail tasted like cough syrup but they were good enough to replace it after I said how much I didn't like it. Thought meatloaf was supposed to be stuffed with cheddar cheese and wasn't but maybe I misinterpreted.
Fish my husband had was really good. Overall fine but a little disappointed. People very nice though!
Second time at Stephi's, first time for brunch. Waited 25 minutes for first drinks, coffee and water, but once they got going, service was excellent and food was good! I would say excellent for the food if they toasted the english muffins on Eggs Benedict (two of us agreed on this). Just don't care for 'raw' muffins under the delicious ham and perfectly poached eggs! French fries were fantastic (who knew they go well with Eggs Benny)?!
The front booth was perfect (otherwise the noise level is really too loud for our liking).
For dinner or brunch - will definitely return next time we are in SOHO! Great staff!
Went at 9pm on a Saturday. A lot of the menu wasn't available as they had ran out of ingredients. Completely unacceptable. First time in my life where I went to a restaurant and they told me they had ran out of ingredients. Pity as the place is nice and the salad I got was actually very nice too
The tables in the restaurant are much too close together which creates a non-existant level of intimacy. The noise level coupled with the seating deficiency makes for difficult conversation. The dishes are overpriced considering the amount of food and lack of sides.
