I was very excited to visit Stephanie’s on Tremont with my girlfriend. I visit Stephanie’s frequently, and bring both business clients and associates to Stephanie’s frequently.
I arrived for my reservation, and the hostess told us we would be seated shortly. Instead of being seated shortly, we waited for 40 minutes with no updated timeline other than, we are going to seat you shortly.
The hostess also clocked my reservation as ‘starting’ and I was ‘Currently dining’ on Open Table as I stood there with no timeline of when I would be seated at a table.
If I had known I would be standing for 40 minutes, I would have gladly taken a seat at the bar. Unfortunately, when I finally asked the hostess for a timeline to sit, all the bar seats were spoken for.
I was extremely disappointed with how the hostess and manager handled seating at the restaurant today, and I don’t plan to visit any of the Stephanie’s locations for business or personal dining going forward.
I came here for brunch for the first table and while the place was packed, the wait staff was amazing! Everything came out within 10-15 minutes and the food was worth coming back for.
food was terrible, sent it back, next one came out worse, terrible , can't image how they're in business
We have been to Stephi's multiple times. On this occasion, the hostess and bar staff were very good. Our waiter was inattentive. The chicken pot pie was flavorful, but not a pot pie. It would better be described as chicken soup with a thin pastry on top. Overall, not a bad dinner, but disappointing for what we have come to expect from Stephi's.
Great seat in the window! Great drinks and food!
Enjoyed out dinner. Waiter was outstanding as was the venue.
Service and food were outstandingb
Our server was fantastic. Good service makes good food taste great.
This is very much a neighborhood restaurant that seems to specialize in comfort food. We split the lobster guacamole for an appetizer, and then I had the chicken pot pie as my entree. Full of white meat, just enough sauce to hold it together (unlike the stuff from the frozen food section). My husband had the ahi tuna on a salad, and it was very much an entree size salad. Parking is a problem, so if you are at a hotel, take an cab/Uber. If you are driving, just keep looking for a meter.
Great and yummy!
Business lunch - it was great
Hip restaurant with great service and food! Fun bar area. Updated decor. Clean. A true neighborhood gem!
On a Thursday night it was so much more mellow and we could hear ourselves talk (compared to a recent Saturday night dinner before theater when the noise was unbearable ). But excellent food and service, go down drinks. A nice casual restaurant.
It was amazing. The scallops were out of this world.
I made a reservation for a cozy table at 1:15pm for a date. I was going to tell the person I've been seeing how I feel and that I wanted to take our relationship to the next level. 1:15, 1:30, 1:45pm....the people sitting at the table weren't eating, weren't drinking they were just sitting there. The restaurant never told them that they needed the table or offered us another table. We went over to Barcelona and was waited on right away.
Needless to say, we were so aggravated I never got to say how I felt.
Our go-to place for brunch when we are in town for a weekend. Great menu and Bloody Marys rock.
We were visiting Boston for the weekend and this place had been recommended to us by a friend who had once lived in Boston. On arrival we were placed in the same queue as the people who had just turned up and were essentially ignored. I was surprised as we had a booking and we had arrived exactly on time. After being left in the queue for about 10 minutes I went to talk to the hostess and told her a second time that we had a reservation and we expected to be seated. At this point we were seated in a room where only half of the tables were occupied so I was somewhat mystified as to what the delay had been.
We reviewed the menu and then waited for 10 minutes before anyone came to ask us about drinks. We watched several waiters hang around by the bar chatting while we were left waiting for service. I think there were only 8 bottles of red wine on the menu so we did expect all bottles to be available, considering that many restaurants have far more than that on their menus and they are available. We chose the Zinfandel which we were told was not available.
The starter arrived in good time but then the main course took about 45 minutes to an hour. We asked several times where it was and we were told there had been a 'problem' and it would arrive soon. After watching the waiters 'play' with each other for another 10 minutes we threatened to leave. The food finally arrived and my pork chop was black and barely edible and my husbands beef short rib was tiny. Only one short rib surrounded by lots of sickly sweet sauce. It was terrible. Also perplexing as we had had to wait for so long to receive burnt food. In fairness the waiter knocked the main courses off the bill but to be honest we probably should not have had to pay at all. The whole things took more than 2 hours which is really not acceptable. Avoid at all costs.
Waited 20 after our reservation time to be seated while multiple tables were open. Kept being told our table was “being cleaned.” Service indifferent and slow. Not at the same level as most South End restaurants — feel like they are coasting.
The food and service were very good, but the noise level on a Saturday night was very very loud. The very popular, noisy bar was behind us and people were having a wonderful time. Unfortunately, I could barely hear myself think.
Salt shaker on the loose. Everything dry and over salted. Portion size decreased but prices increased. Such a noisy crowd at the bar along with loud hip-hop music made conversation impossible. Sad. Used to be a neighborhood favorite
Lovely quick dinner before theater. The service was quick, the wine-by-glass list was excellent, great salads, hamburgers, shrimp pasta (angel hair pasta would be betters as fettuccini!).
Good basic food, not too pricey - a real find in that part of the South End. Yay!
Service was stellar. Good drinks and a great burger!
Very good local restaurant
Entire experience was better than "very good", everything was excellent. Hope to return soon.
Although we had to wait for our table, the manager Nate did an exceptional job of making us feel welcome and kept us informed of what was going on. The food was worth the wait. The scallops were some of the best I have ever had and the portion was large enough that I had leftovers for lunch the next day. Also recommend the Pita chip and 3 dip appetizer. Thanks Nate for taking care of us. We will be back.
UPDATE: The food and drinks were good. But I had a very disconcerting experience when I left my credit card in the payment folio. The manager confirmed the next day that it was there and said he'd keep it in the safe. When I returned to pick the card up, he couldn't locate it after 40 mins of searching. No explanation at the time, only apologies and a promise to keep looking. After a week, I canceled the card and alerted my bank, causing me great inconvenience in updatinf autopay accounts. To the manger, Nate's, credit, he diligently searched and found the card after the fact. He refunded my meal ans all is well. So I have revised this review.
Truly disappointing experience. We’re all locals and have been going to Stephi’s since they opened years ago. Always loved it. Not sure if there’s been a change in management but the service was awful. Made a reservation for 7:15pm and was seated at 8:30pm. The manager only came over well after 8pm - and after we already made two trips to the hostess stand (initially we were told it would be a 10 minute wait). Made having a reservation totally pointless.
Waitress and host were very nice. Kitchen was slow, food was bland and not prepared in keeping with the description on the menu. For the price the value was not there.
We went for a late dinner and were seated promptly the service was fantastic and had a large menu of comfort food and healthy options. Great glass of wine as well. Very satisfying all around.
Good pre theater dinner destination. Consistently good food. Tables are close together. Can be noisy
The service was excellent and the appetizer was okday but the entree was not very good at all. The wine by the glass was so-so.
Excellent food, good service, but boy was it noisy!
very disappointing. little positive to say. we had tickets for the theater afterwards and told our waiter. We also told our waiter that one of our party had a food allergy (lactose intolerance). Nevertheless, her served us bread which had butter and did not bother to tell us. At about the time we were due to be served our appetizer, the waiter then informed us that the appetizer we ordered had butter in it. So, we were delayed. We order the shrimp scampi and the pasta was very thick and heavy. totally wrong for the dish. We told the manager who apologized and said it should have had angel hair pasta. To his credit, he comped our appetizers. To top it off, the noise level was so high, we had to shout at the other couple we came with on the other side of the table. There was absolutely nothing positive about this dining experience. We will not be back
We were last here about 6 months ago. A new menu is offered with some standards but many new creative items. A start with one of the best tuna tartare in the city. Salmon on yam fries and spinach was extremely well done. Drinks are well made and service friendly and professional. A great place to stop before theatre or after work.
Just a nice fun, relaxing place to be. Close to the theater.
First time here. Glad I made a reservation as it was very crowded for brunch. Menu was good and seemed to have a good selection of items/something for everyone. Took a while to get our meals but luckily we weren't in a hurry. Server was friendly and food was good.
Staff and management were very friendly and the meals were presented nicely and very tasty!
We waited over an hour for our food. The waiter never came over to our table to check on us. Once we got our food, it was cold and the waiter never apologized. Once we received our hot food, it was tasteless. Bottom line, the food and service were both awful. I will never eat here again.
Always a good time. Great place for the whole family. Staff always accommodating.
