Really busy when we went on the 4th. Our two top got lost in the shuffle. I ordered the cod and was disappointed. Look like it sat a while and the skin of the fish was a protected layer from heat lamp. Two small potato and dried out onion rings. Tables were served all roun us even though we sat first.
Good appetizers & salads. Burgers & sandwiches looked great but we ordered entrees. Good, not great. Attentive waitress & manager, who handled problem appropriately. Would go back, but would stick to "more casual" food.
Not Thrilled about a 50 minute wait for a 7pm reservation that was previously scheduled.
thought it was pretty loud but it was crowded and it was warm inside despite the AC, as the door to go out to the patio was continuously being open and shut.
Mussels appetizer was great, duck was very good, lamb chops were average- both meats overcooked. Pricey for the quality of the food.
everyone was friendly and nice. Overall a lovely experience
I took my daughter for her 21st birthday. We had an enjoyable overall experience. The service was very good - all staff were courteous and friendly with smiles welcoming us into the restaurant. We were seated within a minute of our reservation. The menu has a nice varied selection making it appropriate for families and larger groups with differing tastes. I would definitely go back!
Expensive salads that were just average. One Tai salad was very spicy with hardly any lettuce - very disappointing. Requested addl lettuce to add it in and recieved Italian dressed greens - they missed the point as much as we communicated... Hamburger all bun.....
Advised the staff of my allergies and they were really on top of it!!
Food was great!! Loved their pitchers of strawberry Lemonade, delicious.
I took my team out for lunch to celebrate a job well done on a huge project. We really enjoyed the calamari and Mac and cheese. Service was attentive but not obtrusive. Good atmosphere. We all enjoyed our lunch.
Food was good, not great. Noise level -- off the charts. Unlikely we will return.
We had to wait a few minutes for our reservation and the crowd was SO loud that we thought about leaving but were glad we stayed as we were taken to a back room where it was not so noisy and had a great meal! Our grandson had his first Skirt Steak and loved it. Overall the food was above average and it is a very poplular place. They have some nice outdoor seating but it was raining the night we went.....maybe that is why it sounded so loud.....they had to put everyone inside?
This is a great spot to take a client to lunch, especially one from out-of-town. There is something for everyone. Warning: Stephanie's is expensive (2 salads + 2 ice teas = $54 with tip).
Food is always good and hearty. Service this time was lackluster. Server was not enthusiastic and had the lowest voice. She was impossible to hear. I was not happy with her at all. Other than that, our experience was as we expected. We go to Stephanie's several times a year.
Loved sitting outside on Boylston Street, and my server was excellent. However, the food was borderline nauseating.
Perfect reunion spot for me & a girlfriend who moved to VA. Years ago
To reconnect. Waitstaff outdoors was patient as we chatted & delayed ordering
Great salad & sandwich & speedy service. Always perfect
Granted it's been a few years since I dined here, but it was not even close to what it use to be. Bruscheta was two pieces of burnt toast and tomato chunks. Trout was dredged in flour and soaked in oil. Service was average and the vintage music was loud and shrill.
Classy yet casual dining in the heart of back bay. Eclectic menu. Enjoyed the tuna burger. Great for lunch or dinner.
Had a great experience in spite of huge crowd pressures for this family day. Crab cake Benedict was top notch! Service was prompt and friendly!
We sat outside and were treated to a great passing show on a busy Saturday night. The appetizers were great (spinach dip and bruschetta both fantastic). Great drink menu. Had a chicken thai salad which was great. Others had the burger, lobster roll, and lobster pie. All raved about their food. Very reliable great dining experience.
Great lunch spot & cocktail creations! Always busy, call ahead. Great outdoor spot.... Will definitely be returning again and again.
I came here with 5 other girls to celebrate my sister's bachelorette party. We sat at the table for 15 minutes before even getting acknowledged, let alone be served water. We ordered the alcoholic strawberry lemonade to start and it tasted like watered down lemonade with no alcohol. The food was eh and service was awful. What a disappointment!
The is a great restaurant in a great neighborhood. The bar offers complimentary fruit and cheese while waiting for your table. The wait staff was super friendly and helpful. Food was delicious - everything from appetizer to entree to kid's food. Outdoor dining was so enjoyable. Will visit again on return trips.
Calamari appetizer was fine, if not great. The clam chowder and sweet italian sausage orecchietti were extraordinary. My dining partner tells me he found the mac and cheese very good. The iced tea was excellent, made of quality black tea with smokey notes (Lapsang Souchong?). Service was dandy, and it was much appreciated that they honored my request for a comparatively quiet spot as best they could; over all, the place was pretty boisterous at 9pm on a Wednesday night. Recommended.
My son was in town on business, and we wanted to have dinner in town. We remembered a lunch we had here years ago, and was very happy at the time with Steph's food. Glad we came back. Good food at reasonable prices with a cozy and vibrant atmostphere. it's a fun place. Highly recommend.
Good place to grab dinner, but not particularly special. The food was good, not innovative or surprising, but tasty. The waiter was fine but spoke so softly I had to guess what he was asking half the time. And the soup came at the same time as the meal, which is just plain annoying. The music was a bit loud, and did not seem to match the ambience. I sense a place that is resting too comfortably on its reputation. But I like the meal, so I would try it again.
Although Stephanie's was rather busy when we arrived, we were seated quickly because of our reservation. The bloody mary's hit the spot, the service was fast, and the food was tasty. We saved the sticky bun for last, and shared it as dessert (delicious!).
This is the usual spring-summer spot I take friends from out of town. The food is good though nothing usual so you know what you are getting. The key is the location and the people watching.
It was en early dinner so only few tables where seated. Its atmosphere is very much like a hotel restaurant... too many sofas...I was expecting a kitchen like ambiance. Everything that we were served was good and satisfactory. Everyone was running around preparing for a peak hour that would come latter - that must have influenced us (my son and my self) feeling little bit like intruding and not as welcome... bottom line food was prepared well so may be I will give them another try...
Great Sunday brunch with girlfriends pre-shopping!
Three of us ate at Stephanie's on Friday night, having made a reservation earlier that day. (Glad we did, as it was packed!) The service was good, and the food was very good. I had sausage, broccolini and orrechiette, my husband had the meatloaf and my son had the fish and chips. All were terrific, and the atmosphere was bustling but still relaxed and warm. It was a really nice time, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good meal on Newbury.
we were there at a very busy night so ordering some drinks while eating seemed to be a challenge. My burger was delicious but $18 is quite a price for that....although the menu is not high-aiming prices are
I had frequented Stephanies 5 years ago and was always very happy with the lunch selections. This time around, I found that they've changed up some items (e.g., meatloaf) for the worse. I expected comfort food taken up a notch. Overall, it was a satisfactory experience but did not meet the memories that I had of the restaurant from years before.
Salad was okay - slightly boring. Mussels were great. Waiter forgot to bring bread basket.
Very expensive for a small salad. Nice day out & couldn't get an outdoor reservation because we booked with open table.
Would not go back again.
This experience was great for several reasons:
Service: I was visiting from out of town and requested quick service for food to get to the airport..the server and staff exceeded expectations
Food: everything was fantastic, loved the custom bloody mary
Sites: sits at the heart of Newbury so the people watching and sites are wonderful, great outdoor patio
We were a group of six who met the day after my nephew's wedding for brunch (including the newlyweds!). It was a perfect spot for the six of us to do a de-brief after a fun but exhausting day (the prior day).
There are plenty of great places to dine in Boston, but we keep going back to Stephanie's. The food and service are always top notch. The ambiance is relaxed and casual. It is becoming our go-to restaurant for any occasion.
We love Stephanie's and have been coming for years. Now that we no longer live in Boston it is a real treat to pop in when we are in the area. I have to say that the only disappointing thing is that the food courses come too quickly now, and there is no time to enjoy them. Please slow it down....I would prefer that my drink arrive before my appetizer, and that I have time to eat the app before my entree shows up.
Stephanie's on Newbury has been a staple on Newbury street for many years. I have been here many times and I have never had a bad experience. Their brunch and lunch food is delicious. This most recent visit I had the Corned Beef and sweet potatoe hash. Absolutely delicious. They also have the Best Bloody Mary's in Boston. Pint Size create your own Bloody mary. From what kind of Vodka to topping such as Old Bay seasoning on the rim, to olives, celerary, and then even more creative: Blue Cheese stuffed olives and even Jumbo Gulf Shrimp - Some toppings are more expensive, but well worth it. You cant go wrong and it is Fantastic.
