Stephanie's On Newbury Ratings and Reviews
Connie and Juan, such a delight... wonderful service, meal and very knowledgeable about wine selections, helpful in making our dining experience memorable. One small thing, the air conditioning was above us, causing the hot, comfort food to turn cold pretty quickly - I wish all restaurants would turn the AC down a notch as we kept our scarves on. Overall, Stephanie’s still remains my long-time favourites! I admire the new decor, a lovely, refreshing change from the traditional - I do miss the cosy fireplace. The sense of privacy between booths is great!
Stephanie's is always great for either brunch, business lunches or dinner. But this time I waited 20 min+ to get seated for a brunch-reservation for 4 people. Was told in door to go wait at bar (no seats, crowded) and that they would text me when my table opened up.
A) I expect my table to be ready when I have made a reservation (otherwise, what's the point?). I'm ok with waiting little, but not +20 min.
B) if it is going to be 20 Minutes, tell me to go wait at the bar and provide coffee or similar if there's room or ask me if ok to come back in 20 min.
Food was great and our service at the table the usual high standard. Service at door/coordination sub-par to my other experiences at Stephanie's
Stephanie's has not disappointed yet. I have been here many times for lunch, brunch and dinner over the years. For this last visit, we were seated promptly and the service was excellent. We had ordered a bottle of wine and did not feel rushed at all during the meal. The atmosphere is noisier during the day in the dining room, but you are still able to have a good conversation without shouting. During nice weather, the outdoor seating and location can't be beat. For a cold December weekend day- it is great for lunch or brunch, and both menus are offered.
My friend and I have a particular dish at Stephanie's that we're very fond of, which is only available in the winter, and is on the lunch and dinner menus; in the past we'd made a tradition of going the day after Thanksgiving to enjoy this dish. We made a point of scheduling a visit at a time when we'd be able to order off the lunch menu; we checked the website to make sure, before booking the reservation, that we were in the right time-window for the lunch menu on the day of the week we were going. When we got there, we found that because it was the day after Thanksgiving, they were having brunch all day, and we wouldn't be able to order off either the lunch or dinner menus, and wouldn't be able to order what we'd come to have.
We wound up ordering off the brunch menu, and it was nice enough, I suppose. But it wasn't particularly remarkable, and certainly not sufficiently good to make up for the very high price. And we certainly wouldn't have traveled downtown for it; we could have had better for less in a nicer ambience in the 'burbs. And it was irritating that the website was not updated to reflect what the restaurant was doing.
I suppose in the future I could call to find out – perhaps the front will know, perhaps it will not, but regardless, given how busy the place is, I expect that would involve a tedious wait on hold. Alternatively I could just give up on going to Stephanie's. That's looking more likely.
While the food was fine and the service was quite good, I'm rating the overall dining experience merely two stars because as far as I am concerned, my dining experience begins when my dining companion and I review multiple restaurants' menus, and pick where we'd like to eat on the basis of what we'd like to eat, and then go there. Showing up and finding that the restaurant we'd traveled to wasn't prepared to serve us what they'd advertised to us does not a pleasant experience make.
We very much enjoy the menu at Stephanie and find the quality of the food to be consistently good. The evening we were there was a Friday and the noise level was a little too high for complete relaxation, but overall it was a good meal and a pleasant experience.
Very noisy and stuffed, tables were too close to each other for any private or business discussion, we asked for a more detached table and they placed us beside the kitchen in a very tiny table where waiters were buzzing around all the time, not recommended for any business meeting
Stephanie's was a real treat! We were visiting from out of state and had a party of 7 for breakfast on a Saturday. Bloody Marys are made to order with so many options and delicious! French toast was SO good! Everyone in our party was happy with their food. This is definitely a "splurge" kind of breakfast for us but it was worth it and memorable!
Overpriced food. Bad service had to literally look for someone and call again and again to take orders because apparently they forget to assign a server after seating. I ordered burger without bacon and yeah it came with bacon and when I wanted to change I had to wait for like 15min before anyone to listen.
This is a great place to sit outside if the weather is nice. Inside is more intimate; great dinner! We waited quite a while for the waiter to come over and get our drink order which we weren’t too happy with. Other than that, things were nice. It was a very relaxed evening.
