Stephanie's On Newbury

Though everything was very good, and the waiter particularly was quite funny – – there was nothing special about it. The portions were minimal for the fish, however the lobster mac & cheese was quite big. But again, there was nothing that I came away with that made me think—WOW! And in Boston, there is a lot of wow factor restaurants. The location is great, but there’s just too many other restaurants to try not to be impressed with one so much that you would want to return
We had a great Saturday night Valentine's weekend dinner at Stephanie's on Newbury and an overall 5 star experience. Stephanie's was recommended by a friend who works in Back Bay and we couldn't have been happier. We both had swordfish that was moist and perfectly cooked, which is not easy to do. Our server, Julie, was absolutely wonderful. She was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive, and her recommendations, which included the chocolate cinnamon toast bread pudding for dessert, were spot on. There was a good lively crowd like all of Boston on the younger side, but of all ages, and a friendly, energetic ambiance. Everyone seemed to be having a great time, as did we.
Not worth it
1st time to Stephanie’s in years. Overall the experience was good. My one disappointment was the calamari appetizer, the dish wasn’t cooked all the way and had no flavor.
Wonderful, our food was cooked to absolute perfection. Our waitress was very attentive but not overly attentive where she was bothering to us. It was actually perfect.
My girlfriend and I ordered a NY Strip Steak and a Ribeye. Both steak tasted burnt. The Ribeye is a bit tough as well. For the price, I don’t think it’s worth it.
We were there for Valentine's day and the service was slower than normal and relatively inefficient compared to every other times I've been there.
First time there and the food was absolutely amazing!
I feel like the great thing about Stefanies is missing. The food just wasn’t great. The bread that was one of the best parts about coming there is now lousy. The truffle Mac and Cheese barely had truffle oil. I just wish they would go back to the 2010/2011 circa... that’s when Stefanies was STEFANIES!
Always a festive and fun place for a ladies lunch!
Delicious pre-theatre brunch!
Food was just ok at best. Chicken was totally dry; scallops were small and fishy (4 scallops for $32); fries with the fish and chips were cold. Not the worst meal I’ve ever had, but definitely not worth $200 for four people (which included one beer, one Pellegrino and one soda). Don’t get the hype and won’t be back.
Everything was excellent, as expected!
From the entrance reception, to seating, to service, impeccable! The food was outstanding....Definitely, a place to see for brunch, or another seating. Order lobster Benedict! Yum!
Thank you for your review!
LOUD @ dinner time ! That is my only complaint!
Very over rated as well as over priced! Had to send items on my plate back that were not fresh and should have been seen by the kitchen!
I would expect more from a place like Stephanie’s!
Wonderful food and ambiance! Only bizarre thing that happened to us was that our server left after our food was delivered. We saw him change into his street clothes and he never came over to tell us his shift was over, can we pay him out, anything. When it was time for our bill, we had to flag the bartender down to to pay. Overall, a must stop at place when in Boston and on Newbury shopping. Great cocktail and wine list and loved the ambiance in the bar area.
The food was ok. Stephanie's could step it up with more vegetarian options and less heavy fare. The place was less than 1/2 full at 8 p.m. on a Friday night. The service was stellar. I truly hope the menu gets a major rework as this as been a favorite spot since Harvard Bookstore Cafe closed.
Nice restaurant for a lunch with friends. We weren't rushed and enjoyed our meals. I had their tomato soup and meza open faced sandwich which were delicious.
Thank you for visiting us!
The waiter we had didn’t get a few of our orders right and frankly kind of a dick
Although I have been here many times and love the food, I will never return due to the incompetent and rude service my party of 6 experienced from the hostess and server. I made two trips back to the hostess stand after checking in as she failed to give us (1) a wine list and (2) crayons for the kids. She did not apologize for either oversight. I was feeling generous and thanked her for both, to which she just replied “you’re welcome.”
But the worst of the experience was the server - she finally brought water after 10 minutes but didn’t take our order for another 15. Mind you - the restaurant was empty! When she took our order she was abrasive. I asked for bread - her response “i don’t know if it’s ready”. I asked to substitute the sides that come with the $10 kids quesadilla for a fruit cup - her response “that will be extra”. I asked for the kids fish and chips to come without ranch dressing - her response “it’s tartar sauce and it comes on the side”. (Meanwhile the menu says ranch and the customer doesn’t want it!)
She took our wine order but our food came before she came back with the wine 20 minutes later, at which point she told us they didn’t have our wine so she had brought a “comparable bottle”. I asked for the price and she didn’t know! At this point I asked her to please tell me the price, she consulted with the host and told me it was $8 more. I said that was not comparable (it was almost 20% more) and asked to see the wine list again. At this point, our food was getting cold. I asked her firmly to please hurry (which she did) but the mood of our dinner was ruined and we couldn’t wait to get out of there.
I’m truly sad that I can’t come back but the whole experience was so ridiculously negative that I won’t consider it.
Stephanie’s - please train your staff to accommodate customers. Until then diners beware!
Pretty overpriced for the quality of the food.
With my wife.
Our family celebrated our daughter’s 21st birthday at Stephanie’s On Newbury. The food, service and ambience were all great. Fantastic place!
Thank you for your review and I'm so happy you had a great time!
Stephanie's is alway consistently great! Food, atmosphere and service are all great. Does get a bit noisy, but that's because it's been a hot spot for many years and always gets a good crowd.
Thank you Lisa for your review!
We did not know that Stephanie’s had come under new management. The entire menu had changed and was significantly smaller. Our waiter got two of our orders wrong and the food was mediocre. We were quite disappointed with our experience.
I had the burger which was tasty enough-hey, it’s a burger. My partner, however, ordered the salmon ala carte, with a side of broccoli rabe. The salmon portion should be cause for embarrassment on the chef’s part; an approximate 3 oz. sliver, plopped, ungarnished on a plate, accompanied by unseasoned, way over cooked veg.
I hadn’t dined at Stephanie’s in over 20 years and we won’t be returning any time soon.
Great place to meet for brunch! Definitely make a reservation, was packed. Had something for everyone, as my daughter has become Vegan. My husband loved his dish, which was eggs and feta in a yummy tomato sauce. My eggs and homefries covered in cheese were awesome. And they have a fab Bloody Mary menu so everyone can add in their favorites! Of course the location can’t be beat on Newbury Street. After brunch you can work off some of the weight by strolling and window shopping!
Thank you Leslie!
Our server took our order and then we never saw her again. Two other servers eventually took over shortly before we left and both made comments about our server being nonexistent. I had the Eggs Benedict. The eggs were perfectly cooked, but there was very little hollandaise sauce and it was flavorless. There was too much ham--at least for my taste. I like a bite with a little of every part of the dish, so ended up removing more than half of the ham. The eggs were served with home fries, which were cold and soggy. Everyone else at the table (there were five of us) said their food was just okay. It's too bad--I had been there a few times in the past (but probably five or so years ago) and enjoyed it, but not this time.
It was really good. We got pimento and the short rib soecial
Friendly and efficient staff. The dishes were unusual yet appealing and very tasty.
Thank you for your review!
You're basically guaranteed to get a good experience whenever you go here. From the moment you walk in to the time you receive your check everything is done at a higher level and with class. The staff is polite and the food comes out to you ridiculously fast. Get the bloody Mary and, yes, you should add bacon.
Post Xmas brunch. Hostess wasn’t very pleasant.
Fair ambiance and convenient locations however the prices are not worth the mediocre meal.
Excellent brunch. Best service.
Food was nothing special and way too expensive for what it was, waiter and service was fantastic though
New Year’s Day brunch - everything was really well done. Great food, excellent server, and a very positive and upbeat atmosphere. A very memorable experience for my family!
Slow kitchen and weak service... food not bad... But the value/price very negative...
Food was great as was service .. would go back!
Excellent food amazing sercvice
