Stephanie's On Newbury

Food: everything we had was excellent: classic clam chowder, cucumber gaspacho with burratta, skirt steak salad, lobster roll.
Prices vary from reasonable ( skirt steak salad @ $26, clam chowder @ $11) to expensive (cucumber gaspacho @ $21, lobster roll with chips @ $36).
Service was good if a bit expeditive.
Ambiance/setting is very nice.
Would have been a 5 star for the great food if it wasn't for some of the high prices.
Always enjoy Stephanie’s !
My mom was visiting me at college and it was a fun place to eat together with her and some of my friends. It was slightly expensive for my college budget but when parents come to visit it’s an excuse to try a nicer restaurant.
I have been visiting Boston for years while our kids attended college and always remember Stephanie’s as a staple for Sunday brunch. I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the food and found the portions smaller than I remember. It’s still a nice place but not all I remember it be.
Brunch food was mediocre at best. Server was nice, but scarcely seen. We had to get up from the table to find silverware that was missing when the food was delivered. Terribly noisy inside. Outside lunch in nice weather is much nicer.
We sat outside on the patio for brunch. It was cool but we wanted to take advantage of a bright day in October. The patio was full and the tables very close together. We both chose shakshuka which was basically tomato sauce with eggs. It was served with bread to mop up the sauce and was tasty enough. Coffee was also OK but not great. The best part of the meal was the service. Our waitress brought the food very quickly and responded promptly to our requests. Water glasses were refilled frequently. I thought the prices were high. You can eat better for less elsewhere.
Staff was friendly and efficient. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Food was very good with a nice variety to choose from.
Amazing, Very friendly servers. Excellent breakfast
Took my sister here while she was in town. The food was really bad and I typically eat anything. On top of that, the service was also terrible. Won’t go back.
I took my daughter for dinner here as it was recommended by a local Bostonian. We didn't know who our waiter was because we had to get up and ask the hostess for service. A fella server near by was king enough to promptly take our order for food and drinks. We were through our drinks before the meal arrived. Had to flag someone down to bring us cutlery after sitting with meals in front of us for over 5 minutes. We hadn't even settled in for a bite when another fella came by and asked how it tasted, so of course we responded with Fine...Thank you. And gratefully, we were thrilled with the flavours of what we had ordered!
By the time we had finished eating we still hadn't been checked in upon or offered another glass of wine, which we we fully prepared to order. After trying to get attention for 2more, we decided it best to just order the bill. I was finally able to request the bill from a server, waited 5 more minutes and decided to just go to pay at the front. I turned to leave and a waiter started yelling at my daughter that she was leaving without paying. I had my credit card in my hand. It had been on the table for over 15 minutes and I made a point of keeping it visible. I turned around and said we would be at the front waiting to pay. He lambasted us by yelling and waving his arms, that we didn't want to pay our bill and the whole restaurant stopped and stared while my daughter and I were scared for a physical attack, but still proceeding to the hostess who had assisted us before. When we safely made it to the hostess stand, I whispered quietly for the bill and also for the manager. The loud fella came to the hostess stand, as we stood waiting for the bill and manager, and demanded that I hand over my card. I said I would in a minute, and he demanded I would do it now and I would pay my bill when he wanted me to not when I wanted to. He continued to frighten my daughter and I getting too close to our bodies and raging at the top of his lungs.
Unfortunately the dinner food wasn’t very good. But the service is excellent.
Dinner on Monday night. Restaurant was half full. Seated right away. Food came out promptly and was delicious. Service was responsive but also relaxed. Perfect for a leisurely work dinner.
The food and atmosphere are great. The menu is unique with interesting, tasty options.
Good food and service as usual. Good Bloody Mary too but disappointed in the decision to remove the meat and cheese skewer from the Customize your Bloody Mary menu
Was told there was many gluten free options for my daughter but they ended up only having 1 choice once we arrived.
Our server was incredible - attentive, friendly, timely.
Thank you for your review!!
Our waitress was friendly and attentive but our order was prepared incorrectly, despite a long discussion about needed the sauce on the side. Food was unremarkable. Great location and comfortable atmosphere.
Very slow but worth the wait
Host was inundated with amount of calls that she was rushing to sit us down. No hello, no conversation at all. Our waitress forgot to give us utensils . When our appetizer came we did not get plates either. Had to eat monkey bread from plate. Food was good, will think twice before coming back.
A friend recommended and we were so happy we went. Awesome Bloody Mary’s and the Shakshouka was delicious- have been wanting to try this dish for ages. Decor is really unique.
Table not ready on time, redirected to bar then forgot about. Mac & cheese very bland (tasteless). Wife ordered dry white wine, waitress advised to try champagne cocktail ($8 extra) when it came it was very sweet. Didn’t drink it !
Unbelievably loud and restrooms were clogged
A favorite spot is a favorite no more. Mediocre food. Very bad service. Sad to see a place you enjoyed going to the -gosh what happened? That used to be a great place. Category.
Outdoor greeter seemed less than happy to there on the day of our visit. Everyone else we interacted with - especially our server - were incredible and helpful. We love to visit this city and Stephanie’s is one of our “must go to” places. The greeter experience was a total one-off this time. Maybe he was having a bad day - we all have them.
Service on both my visits was upsetting. I will write a full review after giving management an opportunity to respond.
The service was very bad. They brought the food and there was not silverware on the table.
They took forever to bring the menu even though the place was empty. They didn’t refill the coffee.
Do not recommend this place
It was a shockingly horrible experience from beginning to end. Too many details to illustrate and even the manager showed absolutely no care or concern whatsoever. This has always been one of our all time favorite spots but sadly no longer
I made a 5PM reservation for me, my daughter and mom on 9/22/19, it was my daughters 17th birthday. I called Stephanie to possibly change the reservation to 3PM. When i called which was sometime after 12PM but not quit 1PM, i was informed by the lady who answered that the menu between 3-5pm was a lighter menu so I said forget it i will keep my original reservation for 5PM, the lady informed me that that if I wanted to come @ 3PM it would be fine and the chef would be able to accommodate us if we wanted to order from the dinner menu. I was like great I will take the 3PM reservation. It was my daughters birthday we were not coming for salad and sandwiches. So we get there and there is a guy with a pink shirt we checked in with. So i informed him of what the situation was and what I was told. He pretty much shrugged us off stating "sorry you were misinformed but the kitchen would not be able to accommodate you, the kitchen is in transition to dinner. I was was livid, steaming mad. We came out to celebrate my daughters birthday and not only do you have people giving misinformation over the phone but this guy was not willing to help figure something else out or anything, he pretty much said sorry, hears the menu you can order brunch since we have 10 min left before brunch is over or you can order from the light menu. I dont know if this is how Stephanies treats its customers or what. But for someone coming to your establishment for the first time and having a family member who came to celebrate her birthday, this was the worst experience I have ever had in an establishment. THANK YOU VERY MUCH STEPHANIE'S FOR RUINING MY DAUGHTERS 17TH BIRTHDAY ON SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DAY. WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS. THANKS AGAIN
Thank you Tonie for reaching out to upper management. This situation will be handled internally, and we are thankful for your patience in the matter. We look forward to rectifying this situation and providing you and your daughter a wonderful experience in the future. Sincerely, Sara Botka General Manager
This used to be the place to be and be seen with top quality food. Not anymore. It is still $$$ but the food is bad, the waitstaff thinks they are the elite and the over all ROI is POOR.
Enjoyed Stephanie's brunch but missed the opportunity to have the burger. Solid menu and drinks list.
Thank you for visiting us!
We were there for brunch; food was great. Tiffany was best waitress ever. It was very busy so a lot of people were talking. There is no reason to play the music so loud on top of that. The waitress could barely hear us ordering. Other than the music, I highly recommend Stephanie’s.
Thank you for your feedback Paula. We will pass your praise along to Tiffany!
Excellent service and food. A fun place,
comfy food and place
Thank you for visiting us!
Understandably busy during lunch because the lobster roll and tuna melt were delicious! Fairly loud and seated close together like a coffee shop atmosphere.
Thank you for visiting us!
In Boston for a business meeting. Brought my colleagues here. All 8 enjoyed the dinner and atmosphere. This is the 5th time to visit Boston in recent years and our 4th at Stephanie’s. Enough said!
Our meals were terrific. The steaks were flavorful and cooked to correct temp. Highly recommend the Lobster Roll. Wait staff very attentive.
Mediocre at best
Only busy because of location
Lobster pot pie very soupy and brick chicken dry.
Rolls were old and reheated.
We loved our experience at Stephanie’s food was excellent including g the Boston cream pie
We sat outside and it was a very nice place but the amount of food we were given was smaller than expected regarding the price of the meals. We had brunch and thought it was great but only complaint would be the portion size was much smaller than what we thought was fair for the price.
Thank you for your feedback! We will pass this along to our chef for improvement!
The food was incredible and the specialty cocktails were unique and interesting. The only issue - a server was a little pushy toward the end trying to get us out of there, though it was not crowded on a Wednesday night and it was hours from close. Our actual waiter was patient, but another server kept trying to grab our check, which clearly hadn't moved since being placed on the table, when we were still finishing our drinks and engrossed in conversation. Food gets an A, service gets a B-.
