Stem Ratings and Reviews
Nice looking, great vodka infusions. Cheapest wine by the glass was $12 which for a wine bar is absurd. We tried to order to different small plate items and both were unavailable. Our server did rectify the situation by providing us with two drinks on the house.
The offerings are more geared toward to supporting the wine vibe, rather than stand alone meals. The tone and drneanor is very relaxed and soothing. Perfect for introverts like me. Regrettably, we did not dine this visit, although a sampler meat and cheese board at a neighboring table looked spectacular.
It looked really good on OpenTable. I wanted a romantic evening w great food and atmosphere for the love of my life. We were deeply disappointed. Menu was limited and the value was terrible for the money ... on charcuterie board, 4 meat balls and 2 glasses of wine for $90. And service was average. Ambiance was nice but music played too loud. Fixable but needs work.
We recently were at STEM for a girl's night celebrating birthdays. We were energetically greeted, received excellent service from Adam the whole time we were there, and enjoyed amazing food in a wonderfully warm, and inviting atmosphere! I highly recommend STEM for any occasion! We visited many places in the north loop that evening, and all agreed our time at STEM was by far our favorite! We will be back!
What a fun night. We were celebrating my wife having taken an important professional exam, and STEM was our jumping off point. Our server was knowledgeable of the cocktails and wine selection, given great suggestions on what to pair with our appetizers and nibblies. He was attentive, and ensured we enjoyed all we ate or drank. He was also able to suggest G-free and meatless options for one of our guests. It was a fun locale, and we will be back.
There didn't seem to be anyone working. Our server wasn't rude per se, but didn't go out of her way to go above and beyond. Several time she came to bring items to our table and did not make eye contact or acknowledge when we said Thank You.
A table of 5 people came in after us (maybe 7-8 minutes later) and they got several plates of food before we got our 1 appetizer to split, which we ordered at the same time as our drinks. Our drinks came our promptly.
I will definitely continue to go back because I have had better service, hopefully it was just an off night.
Decided to try out stem for brunch because their menu looked fantastic, and it really was quite good. We had the beignets, tostada, and eggs in a cloud. Beignets were awesome (though would recommend swapping out the white sauce with a chocolate one), tostado was incredible, and eggs in a cloud were innovative and cool (though wish warmer!). Server and ambiance were great. Wonderful date spot - love the questions.
Really want to see this place succeed. What works- great food, wine, ambiance, music, and service. What needs work - cocktail program, lighting looks beautiful but it is too dark - no one should need their flashlight app to read a menu or see the food (which is great). When it is hot and humid turn the air on when you open so your guests will be comfortable.
Second time here and everything was delicious, especially the tuna tartare, smoked salmon dip, and Brussels sprouts. Cool interior, very dark lighting (read, very cool but we needed our phone lights to read the menu) good service, I'll keep coming when I'm in town.
Had a lovely evening, amazing meat and cheese board , and the drinks were stellar. - everything would have been perfect except for some very loud patrons at the bar talking at 100x volume level to enjoy a wine bar at. Wish the bartender had found a way to manage that.
We live in the city and are always trying to find restaurants not many people know about (change your sign though, so more people know you are on that corner; as we would HATE to see your business not succeed because of anonymity!) Thankfully, we found Stem the other night, as it was an AWESOME night out away from the kids. Even though it's called a ' Wine Bar', we took other Yelp suggestions and stuck to their cocktails, which were soooo fresh, sooo unique and sooo delishiously good, that it would be hard for us to order wine the next time we go (and we will DEFINITELY be returning). As far as the food goes, we ordered the Tuna Tartar (which was incredibly fresh and clean tasting) and their combination Chartreuse board which had more than enough variety and yummyness to keep both of us happy till we were blissfully stuffed (truly a PERFECT summer dinner). We loved the fact that the space allowed for easy conversation (as too many of the good restaurants have us packed in like sardines, with horrible space accoustics, that leave us begging to run into the QUIET night air). Last but not least, our server, Frankie, was sooooooooo wonderful and made our night that much more enjoyable; as he made sure we were happy from the moment we walked in the door AND had such a warm personality, we found ourselves staying long past the check to talk. Our next time back will be for their well-reviewed brunch, and the hand-made mimosas that Frankie assured us would be every bit as enjoyable as our cocktails last night!
It was a quiet night at the restaurant, but everything was great from the food to the drinks.
The Combo meat and cheese plate was great and could be a meal for 2 people pretty easily. Our other favorite item was the brussel sprouts. Amazing flash fried garlicky goodness!
Really enjoyed the ambiance as well as the food and drink.
The cocktails were complex and refreshing. We loved the wagyu beef skewers, pickle platter, tuna sashimi (though very pricy), and brussel sprouts--there was nothing that wasn't well executed. The decor is attractive and the environment was great, too. I will definitely return.
I love this little wine bar. It is quiet and intimate. Perfect place for a couple or for friends that want to be able to talk. Nice booths and tables. Never feels too crowded or noisy. The food is outstanding and they have a very nice wine selection. Happy hour is good. We had the olives of the day, the Brie and Artichoke dip and the brussel sprouts (amazing). I highly recommend all three. It was delightful. The service was amazing. Our waiter was so polite and helpful. Thank you for a fun evening.
When with a small group; we shared the Wagyu skewers, Baked Brie, and the cheese plate. The wagyu skewers were delicious - they were slightly fatty but in a melt-in-your-mouth way. The baked brie was also very good. We also ate brunch here and the king crab benedict was fantastic!
We went to Stem for the first time today to celebrate Mothers Day with breakfast. It is a lovely space, amazing food and cocktails, and most important exceptional service. Frankie had good recommendations for us and took great care of us. We will definitely be back to try happy hour and dinner. Thank you Stem for a great experience.
