My husband was looking forward to the buffet brunch which has at least temporarily been stopped do to the Covid Virus. Last time we visited the tables were very close together. Those tables have now been replaced by booths which is an improvement. With the current health concerns I was uncomfortable with the servers touching the computer screens without then disinfecting or washing their hands.
While the service was good today, I wouldn’t recommend this place for brunch. Lunch and dinner is a yes though.
The service was slow, then of the four things we ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese came out cold and had to be sent back to heat. It was okay, but everyone at the table agreed they would not order it again. The Pasta Carbonara was ordered by two of us, it is a dish that both of us generally I love and have had in many restaurants, was not edible. The sauce tasted like lemon and was not creamy at all. Even the bread, which we had to ask twice to get any was bad, served over cooked, plain, we had to ask again to get olive oil or butter.
Only the pizza was good, but even then nothing special, Matchbox has better pizza.
Went for brunch - it is a nice buffet spread with good variety. The cinnamon roll bread pudding is not to be missed. However, we added two to our party about three days before we went and changed our reservation. There is only one decent-sized booth in the restaurant and they sat us there and it did NOT fit six adults. My husband ended up leaving and even then, we were pretty snug with five adults. The rest of the seating is for four tops and two tops (minus one extra large table that had a party of 12). Do not book for more than four people unless you can snag the extra large table.
Really great atmosphere, and the food is amazing. Love going here.
The menu was updated and it's ok. Nothing great. Probably won't come back again. Service was TIRED. I think the person that served us was out partying the night before. Rushing us along and it was obvious that she didn't want to be there .
Great experience and delicious food. Brunch buffet has a lot of variety.
Hard to eat pizza and then realize the glasses of wine were $22 a glass!! I mean come on..... we spent more on wine than food. Simple Pinot noir.... and pizza should not be same as eating at a really nice restaurant. We looked up the wine and it was a fifteen dollar bottle that cost us over $100! The bar is very loud and it was hard to have a decent conversation during dinner. Not worth going back.
It was very good!
We had a excellent time. Stella Barra is so much better since they remodeled and changed the menu it was much needed. We will eat there much more often.
I have wanted to try Stella Barra for a long time and finally did it. I love the vibe of the place and the staff is wonderful! We tried the focaccia pesto bread as an appetizer. We were starving and it gave us a few bites to take the edge off but not too much that it was too filling. I tried the margherita pizza and my friend had the chopped salad. She liked her salad and would order it again. My pizza was very good. Flavorful crust and sauce. I ordered some extra side sauce for crust dipping and for some reason, it was spicier than what was on my pizza. Still good though! I am looking forward to my next visit!
Fun for kids and adults
The restaurant didn’t mention that the bulk of their seating was closed for a private event. They sat us in a bit of a no mans land between their two restaurants (Stella Barra and Summer House) and then essentially proceeded to forget that we were there.
This was the slowest service I have seen in years.
Stella Barra should stick to pizza. It used to be one of my favorites. What I had off the new menu was so disappointing. Perhaps the most bland and flaccid pasta dish I’ve ever eaten. Literally everything about the carbonara was wrong. Using penne instead of spaghetti. Not salting the cooking water enough (or perhaps at all by the taste). Cooking the (paltry amount) of pancetta separately so that none of the rendered lard was in the sauce. Adding too little pecorino and too much cooking water to the sauce, making it too thin to stick to the pasta. Finishing the dish with large slivers of cheese rather than finely grated cheese. So, so bad—a marginally competent home cook could do a better job.
Restaurant nice, pizza not great. Really crispy crust, light on sauce and cheese but not toppings. Out of balance. Comfortable, nice decor, good wine
Service was slow , and even with dirty dishes on the end of the table , the dishes weren’t taken in a timely manner. It was obvious we were done- nothing was in the plates. Food was great, my kids are picky and they loved it, too!
Few options in the menu for a pizzeria, the ambience seems to be more a bar than a pizzeria. The “make your pizza” for kids was really nice.
Great value for an outstanding brunch buffet. Perfect number of good-quality, varied dishes, and the drinks were really good, too. The ambience was just right for conversation, and the service was attentive.
My boyfriend and I came to Stella Barra last night at about 8, granted it was later on in the evening on a Sunday so it was quiet and not a lot of staff. The host greeted us right away and seated us quickly, but no one approached our table not even to say they’ll be right with us or if we wanted some water. 5 minutes went by, then 10, then 15 until it got to 8:20. During this time I continually tried to make eye contact with the wait staff and draw attention to the fact we were even sitting there. After 15 minute we gave them the benefit of the doubt for 5 more minutes, but at 8:20 (20 minutes after arriving) we had not been taken care of and so we left. I had been looking forward to dining at Stella Barra all weekend, due to a good experience in the past, but last night was a real disappointment.
THE BEST gluten free pizza crust I have EVER had. Elena is the best bartender! Always a great vibe and wonderful food.
Great location and atmosphere. Our son lives in the area and it was the first time we visited - we will definitely go again. They took us at our reservation time. The food and service were good and we didn’t feel rushed. It was a great evening.
Decent but not great food, with ok service, priced on the high side for what it is. Wouldn’t mind returning but wouldn’t rush to do so either.
The waiter was nice, the food was average, but the wait was horrible. We had to wait 30 minutes past our reservation to be seated, and the manager didn’t bother apologizing for this. It seemed like he went to every table but ours. We had to ask the host to speak with him for him to acknowledge us. This was not the first time we had to wait. I will probably never go back because I had to drive 45 minutes, so I since they do not care about making people wait a long time I have no problem taking my business elsewhere.
Went to redeem a gift card from a prior bad experience and this one was even worse. Service was amazingly slow. Server dropped off drinks and never came back again. Had to flag down manager to even check on status. No apologies from server. Won’t go back.
Celebrating my birthday
The waitress was inattentive and snapped at my husband regarding a question on the bill. Been there three previous was great but this Sunday we have written this place off.
We had the brunch during restaurant week. it was delicious and hot. Great food selection and included an alcohol drink for $20 not including tax and gratitude. I would definitely go back there again.
We were there on an unseasonably warm night in January and I have to admit that I enjoyed the evening, despite the food/service. The open front to the restaurant, in nice weather, is hard to beat. We had a reservation, but still had to wait 15-20 minutes, while they "figured it out". I had the spicy salami pizza with burrata and it was average. My husband and son both ordered the white mushroom pizza and they both thought it was pretty tasteless. I'm guessing that the restaurant doesn't need to have great food to keep it packed when the weather is nice.
We waited 40 minutes to be seated. Once seated, the waitress told us that the pizzas take 20-25 minutes to cook so we might want to order appetizers (which we did). The pizzas came out 10 minutes later. They are a really thin crust so it seems a bit misleading to tell us that it would take 20-25 minutes. The crust on all 5 of the pizzas was nearly black (burned) on the bottom. Nobody enjoyed the pizza. I really wanted to like this place but, sadly, it appears to be poorly run. I spoke to the manager about the initial delay and he was no help.
Terrific brunch bar. Well worth the price especially when kids eat for free.
Very good food. The brunch has variety. Quality is above the price. Check it Out. Great music being played was a bonus.
Great spot!!! Love the ambiance the food was really good only thing was the sausage gravy was not hot literally only small complaint. Will be back soon
I made a reservation for my son and his girlfriend for the pajama brunch on New Year’s Day, we were suppose to receive a gift card equal to the amount of his meal. He didn’t receive it, I’m very disappointed.
We really enjoy brunch hat Stella Barra. very little about the all-you-can-eat brunch is Italian surprisingly. Enchiladas, a nacho like dish, and guacamole stand out among the scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns. The cinnamon bread pudding is addictive. Too bad they added almonds to the granola topping the Greek yogurt and fruit. It's a family place, so it does get a little loud, but not too bad.
I make sure to bring my kids here every time we are in DC. They love to make their own pizza.
My favorite pizza place in Rockville. Been coming here since it opened years back. The food is always good and the service is nice.
I take anyone from out of town here for Pizza! Hands down one of the best crusts and ingredients in the area.
Nice place, excellent food and great service.
The brunch buffet is good here. I have dined here on many occasions and it was evident there may have been a staff shortage on this day. Our server as well as others were replenishing food to the buffet bar. This is usually done by other staff for the most part. The guacamole was really salty. The macaroni and cheese had too much bread crumbs on top. In fact it was mostly bread crumbs. The granola was too sweet. The rest of the buffet was really tasty. There was also a pleasant lemon cake served. The coffee was great tasting.
