Jurassic, overpriced, wagu lasagna seemed to be cooked faster than our glasses of wine arrived. Fair tasting but not worth the $58 price tag. Wine arrived while we were 3/4 done our meal. Although we had a nice view of the Empire State building, the PA system from Macy's announcements seemed to kill the mood. Sat for 15 mins before we could catch anyone's attention to get the bill.
Food was good. Went with a group of six and was told a group this big couldn't sit at window seat. Restaurant was not crowded at the time and a table for two could have been moved a foot over to a table of four for us. But if that is the policy of the restaurant thats fine, but then a group of six came in and they moved a table and put them at a window table. Server got drink order wrong and didn't bring one person there desert. Had to ask two times about missing desert, it finally came ten minutes later. Food was good service was bad.
Food was good but overpriced. Barely got any food for the entree price. My wine had crunchy bits in it???? I’d recommend just making the trip to the lower east side for real family style Italian.
Had the white clam pizza instead of my usual mushroom pizza - delicious! Brussels sprouts were yummy as usual. Had the pear sorbet, a bit too sweet for me. Sat for the first time in the end of the restaurant closest to the dedicated Stella 34 Trattoria elevator, very spacious and quiet space, great for conversation.
An unexpected find to meet with friends who have different destinations.
The food was amazing - a little difficult to locate inside of Macy’s store.
Gem of a restaurant inside of Macy's Herald Square. Great location, great view, great food, great service. One of my favorite spots to treat myself and prices aren't bad.
Great meal with great menu selections.
The food was wonderful. the lasagna dish for two can feed a family. It was excellent
the pasta and meat dish was also excellent-the salads superior
Great with kids! Attentive waiters but service a bit slow. Lovely setting and yummy food!
Just outstanding! Great service and the food was amazing. Miracle of 34th street.
I come to Stella every time I want a nice lunch or dinner in the Herald Square area. It's perfect for before a show at MSG due to its location - and it's one of the only restaurants in that area that I feel is appropriate for bringing guests to. It's classy without being stuffy, and the food is delicious. Great small plates and TREMENDOUS gelato. Save room for dessert here, it's well worth it! Staff is always friendly, helpful, and pleasant.
Stella is always a terrific choice for lunch around this neighborhood, the food is good, the room is bright and welcoming and they are always very accommodating.
The manager payed for the entire lunch for which I am very appreciative
Something went wrong in the service and kitchen and they made up for it
I will always go back as I am a native New Yorker in the neighborhood
Went for lunch. They have excellent salads. The waiter advised me to get a green salad to go with the wagyu beef salad because she said the salad was small, but I was glad to have declined the offer because there was actually a large amount of beef (extremely good) and enough shaved asparagus (but maybe not quite enough sundried tomatoes) to satisfy me.
The food was wonderful and creative. The pizza with arugula, cherries, and gorganzola was creative and delicious, and my pasta and lobster was great! The service was great, and the meal was a great prelude to the concert at MSG!
The $29 3 course meal was very good and a great deal. I enjoyed the food it was hot, seasoned and prepared well. The restaurant was rather empty at first, but filled up quickly at lunch time. The view was decent and the ambience was a mixture of classic elegance and contemporary. The wait staff and hostesses were pleasant and efficient. I have no complaints and would definitely recommend eating there again. The lunch time salads seem to be very popular. The asparagus salad was delicious - I would love the recipe. The crab ravioli in corn sauce was a pleasant surprise with a hint of spiciness and the fig dessert was also very good.
overall I would give 4 out of 5 stars.
Supposedly me and my friend were looking forward the black truffle event . Sadly very disappointed that the food was not that hot and wasn’t that very good. I think this restaurant is best suited for the tourist crowd but not for local foodies or people who want to enjoy HIGH QUALITY cuisine
This is the in-house restaurant for the flagship Macy's store in Herald Square. It's on the 5th floor and has stunning views, including of the Empire State Building. It has an open, light-filled and appealing ambiance and decor, and the service was attentive and friendly. All our entrees were terrific, from a moist and tender cooked chicken to deliciously rich lobster and a hearty, creamy eggplant parmigiana. A great place for a good meal with outstanding views in a comfortable setting.
Food is definitely tasty here. From the olive oil on the table to dessert. Worth to mention are the truffle salad, risotto, & pizza. My family loved the food. After hours of shopping, a little annoyed that there was a wait even with a reservation (at 2pm). Noise level would’ve been better if we weren’t sitting next to the big party at the back room. Oh, ask to sit by the window, it’s a nice view from the 6th floor
Very good food. We have been to Italy several times and the food here rivals it. Went with the truffle tasting menu and 2 pasta dishes. Very high level of preparation and taste.
On the down side you are still in a department store and it is very noisy. We wanted to leave when we got here, but are very happy that we stayed. Please heat up the bread as it has no taste or texture.
Lunch was absolutely fabulous. My friend is a serious vegetarian and we decided to share 3 small plates and a salad. Each was delicious.
Was here for their Black Truffle week special menu. Wow, chef is really master of flavors, letting the incredible freshness of the ingredients come through, and enhancing the dish with careful details - like adding pickled baby turnips with their delicate greens to the shaved asparagus, guanciale and truffle 1st course. Still drool, thinking about it! Really wonderful - everything. And with view of Empire State Building - this department store restaurant, is truly a hidden gastronomic treasure.
Everything is good at Stella 34 for everyday dining
The black truffle menu was fantastic - the truffle pizza, the lobster with truffle butter, and the special Marconi cake were all exquisite! And my companion loved the osso bucolic with truffles. This was a wonderful dining experience in a lovely, relaxed setting. Thank you Stella!
Went for the $45 3-course Truffle Dinner. It was awesome! Shaved black truffles on everything. Had the risotto to start. Huge portion. My friend had the same, but couldn't finish it. I ate every morsel and was eyeing her leftovers. The risotto was topped with a soft poached egg that ran and mixed well when stirred into the risotto. Next course was the roasted lobster A 1.5 lb moist (almost undercooked) lobster in an amazing truffled sauce, with large shaved black truffles and sprigs of fresh parsley. The only downside is that restaurant doesn't seem to think that patrons really want to eat the lobster. It was beautifully garnished and they deconstructed the claws and split the tail. But, the carapace wasn't split and I had to ask for a knife in order to open it to eat the tomalley and suck the meat out of the legs. It was a messy meal, but OMG! so delish. The last course was the Tartufo. Large ball of sheep's milk ice cream, studded w/cherries and chocolate, enrobed in a thick chocolate shell. It sat on a thin layer of cherry cake and whipped cream. When it was first served, it was impossible to eat. It was frozen solid and the only instruments we had were spoons. Needed a knife. But once it was cracked open, it was pure heaven. I only wish I could have taken it home 'cause I was too full to fully appreciate it. Huge meal, delicious sauces, and perfectly cooked items. My only complaint is the noise level. The acoustics in the restaurant are poor so voices reverberate. At the end of the meal, Macy's was closing so there were overhead announcements advising customers. With the general noise and the overhead announcements, it felt like we were in Grand Central station. Service could have been a bit better too. Not a big deal, but toward the end of the meal, service staff seemed to disappear. They appeared to be busy setting up for the next day. I understand that they had work to do. But a little more attention to lingering diners was wanted.
The food was delicious. As usual, the service was excellent in the beginning then seems to "peter out" towards the end.
I have eaten here several times before. Today the Caesar salad with chicken did not taste as good as it has in the past. I had two servers and the second server was excellent. As a woman who frequently travels alone, I find that restaurant service to a single woman dining alone is generally not as good as the service received by a party of two or more.
Beautiful open airy space with views of Manhattan. It just happened to be a truffle festival so we feasted on a delicious pre-fixe lunch consisting of a lovely asparagus salad with truffle oil dressing and a truffle pizza and dessert. Good value and an excellent meal.
This restaurant is constantly great! The menu is always changing so I never get tired of going there.
Food was average but location is great. Wine was very cold...which was great. Casual menu can easily accommodate those that are picky... Simple food...I had the Pizza with the brusselsprouts...both were good...very convenient location...especially if you're going the MSG for a concert...or need to take a break of shopping.
This was my second visit to Stella 34. Both times it was pretty fantastic. The pasta dish I has was spectacular and it takes A LOT for me to say that as I am a pasta freak. I cannot recall the name of the pasta, it was similar to a non-ribbed Rigatoni in a ragu and tomato sauce...the taste, texture and portion were perfect- although I could have almost had seconds!
The view (if you're by the window) is wonderful, right out onto Herald Square which is NOT the Herald Square I know from growing up in NYC. Lots of bustling New Yorkers and a great view of the Empire State Building.
Given that there is so, so little in this area, it's proximity to Penn Sta makes Stella 34 a great choice.
Service started out great then it was very hard to get our server back once served. Why do they do that? So, if your in a rush, ask for your check with your coffee.
I've had dinner at Stella 34 three times in the past three weeks; each time with a different person/persons. Everybody loves it and thanks me for the introduction. They'll all be back! The food is terrific, as is the ambience. Kudos to new waiters Aaron and Isaac. They made our dinners enjoyable with their great service. Thank you for some wonderful meals. I look forward to my next visit.
food is so tasty and the presentation is nice as well
I can’t wait to return!
Simply amazing. Food, drinks and view are unbeatable. Great service as well.
I was pleasantly surprised.
Food was great, service friendly and good.
We arrived with huge expectations but we were quite disappointed. I ordered the scallops, which were sort of chewy. The potato croquettes were missing salt, and quite bland. My husband ordered the my strip steak which he defined “nothing to write home about”. Service was friendly but she didn’t know prices. The place is very noisy and was very difficult to follow the conversation. Only truly remarkable food item was the bread. For this price, we would rather go to Vintage for steaks and H2O for seafood.
Truffle steak tartare Crudo was excellent- service professional and prompt. Easy to grab a table on route to Penn Station for a quick bite.
located on the 6th floor on the 6th ave side of Macy's. Refreshing dining space, roomy, bright, al little on the noisy side. Service attentive but not intrusive. Food arrived in a timely manner. Was good, but we are in an area of NY/NJ where there are thousands of great Italian eateries.
