I have been loyal to this restaurant since 2013. I always love the ambiance, food quality and service Stella34 provides. I have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and other memorable moments here. The only downside this time was that I made a reservation with precise instructions that I wanted a table with a view because it was a special occasion (anniversary) and I was given a bad table instead.
Secret gem in Macy’s. So different from the theatre district tourist joints. Excellent food and very good service.
All the ingredients were good. The pizza crust was a little chewy. If that were a little better, the pizza would have been great! The service was a little bit inattentive, but I think it was just our server.
I was there 3 years ago and I really love the restaurant. I just felt that it looks a bit outdated. Like there's something that says old but not in a positive way. The SERVICE AND FOOD WAS GREAT!
Servers were not attentive, borderline careless.
Excellent location & terrific food.
I frequent Stella often and usually have an overall good experience. However, yesterday was an absolute appalling experience. The food is typically very consistent and it was yesterday, both the salads and the sandwiches. The service or rather complete lack of service was deplorable. For starters, we were never greeted by our server. I needed to track him down. I then informed him that we were on a limited time line and requested that our order be expedited. Simple requests for straws and silverware were a challenge for him. After 40 minutes, and our server no where in site, I tracked him down and requested that he check in with the kitchen on our order.. His reply was that "I did not tell him that we were on a tight time line" Eventually the food arrived.. served without the proper or necessary silverware.
Never an apology! First time in my life, that I did not tip a server.
Service was good but a limited menu.
Enjoyed a mother’s day brunch with my friends Mark and David. Food and service is always excellent at Stella’s. My octopus salad, the meat balls, all great
Delicious food, great ambiance, very comfortable place to eat in NYC.
Great food; good views and excellent service.
Nice atmosphere with friendly staff! Good food .
Very convenient when you’re really tired and it completes the shopping experience! ❤️
I would recommend this restaurant for its proximity to Penn Station and if you're shopping in Macy's. The room has a nice open feeling and the view over Herald Square would be great at night with the Empire State Building.
The hostess was very nice, but the waitress was not focused and got things wrong on our order.
The food was good, but on the expensive side for it.
Service was scant and uninformed. Hostess was terse. Food (peas and buratta salad) was flavorless and needed dressing. Ricotta Balls was crazy good, the only redeeming feature. I’ve been to this restaurant before many times, because it’s at Macy’s and I love the wooden escalators, but this was the worst.
We enjoyed a very nice lunch at Stella 34 Trattoria. The menu has a variety of options from salads to pizzas to sandwiches. Two of us had chicken paninis while I had a fungi pizza. Everything was well-prepared and tasty. Service was attentive and professional. Stella’s is highly recommended.
I come to Stella often and the food and service is usually very good. This time around my fiancé and I were disappointed. We order an app and two pasta dishes. We waited almost a half hour for our app which was fried calamari. The restaurant wasn’t even super busy. When our entries came. My fiancé ordered pasta w/ garlic and oil. Flavor was good but it was dry to the bone. I had the agnolotti it was very tasty but very salty. Most likely due to the capers and olives. Maybe it was an off night.
I went for a dinner with my friend to celebrate her orthodox Easter. The place looked nice and calm and it wasn’t busy at all. We got a nice table. But the service was HORRIBLE. Two servers all together served us, coz apparently the first one’s shift was over which is fine but both of them seemed to not care about the service at all. My friend’s drink was finished and no one offered her second one in fact when she waved and asked the server seemed bothered and got the wrong drink. Food was alright. But the thing that bothered me the most was I ordered a dessert wine which arrived after we were done with the dessert. It was ridiculous. I would totally understand the delay and the ignorance if the restaurant was busy and packed but it was barely 5 tables in the entire place. But I must mention the food runner guy and the barista who brought us coffee were really humble.
My third time here, and it's gone downhill. Service was slow and inattentive on a surprisingly quiet night. I expect better for the price.
Great meal as always .Cocktails are awesome
Overlooking 34th Street, and with a view of the Empire State Building, the tables at Stella 34th Street are clean and spare as is the decor. What I enjoyed was the relative quietness of this restaurant for lunch and brunch. The waiter was efficient and very accommodating, and I had a delicious lunch, the gravlax pizza!
The food was pretty good, especially in the Penn Station/Midtown food desert. But, the service was very slow. And, it took half an hour to get a table, even with a reservation.
After many emails from open table confirming reservation
When I got to Stella they said they didn’t have record?!!!!!
Sat us anyway but would have been different if more crowded
This was always one of my favorite hidden secrets in midtown Manhattan. On this visit I was appalled by the level of service I received. The waitress had attitude, water wasn't refreshed regularly, and the first course came without flatware. When the plates were removed to make room for the 2nd course, the busboy touched our used flatware and then left it on the table without asking if we wanted new forks and knives. The pizza was DISGUSTING. Undercooked, soggy, raw lamb. Yuck. We got through part of it and asked for it to be cooked thoroughly. In a good restaurant they would have comped the pizza, particularly since I told the manager that it was a birthday luncheon. I was embarrassed, and spent $50 for a salad and bad pizza, no dessert and no coffee/tea, either. They lost my business. I will not return.
After an exhausting day of site seeing, Stella 34 Trattoria was a great find inside of Macy's flagship NYC store. Casual but stylish atmosphere. Low key, attentive service a menu that has healthy, culinary-inspired dishes, with something that appeals to everyone. Our server seemed to sense our mood and provided prompt and courteous attention without being overbearing. Highly recommended for lunch or after a long day in which you simply want to have a good experience without a lot of fanfare.
Delicious food! Fabulous dessert! We love coming when we’re in NYC.
I made a reservation a week in advance for a table for eight. We arrive right on time, and the table wasn’t ready for us. Mind you, there were only four tables in the entire restaurant that were occupied. It took them 11 minutes to figure out where we were going to sit. And then took about another 15 minutes for a waiter to come over and take our drink order. They couldn’t figure out who was supposed to wait on us. Once we were assigned a waiter, things were a bit better. The waiter was fine, but we have definitely had better service at that location in the past. I think this restaurant is more suitable for small groups of two or four people.
I ate at Stellas whenever I come into the city from Rhode Island and I stop imto Macys. I love the Margarita pizza a well as the Napoli salad, and always had a great experience. But this time, I was very disappointment. I had a reservation for 5 on Saturday for 1. They sat me in a section with one waiter and then changed over to a waitress. It took her awhile to come over and when she came, I ordered a glass of Chianti and a Napoli salad without mushrooms. It took her 10 mins to get my glass of wine that was sitting on the counter at the bar for about 8 mins. From my table I was able to see the bar. She never even offered any bread to me. When the food runner brought me my salad of course it had mushrooms. It wasn't until she came to get the order from another table that I stopped her to let her about my salad but by then I had already picked out the mushrooms and did not have time to get another because I had to catch the Amtrak train back to Rhode Island. The restaurant was not busy at all and my waitress had 5 tables. She had plenty of time thought to talk to the managers and other servers instead of taking care of her tables. They big party she had twice got up from their table to find her and ask for what they needed. It was an very disappointing dinner.
Good food and beverage, good and quiet, nice place for business luch. Service is terrible as we were waiting to get our apetizers for 33 minutes , then our waiter forgot to put our main course ordere, so had to wait for additional 52 minutes after our forgotten apetizers. After all, food was great and service dissapointing and just terrible. Would not reccommend if expecting quick and efficient service, although food was very good.
We eat here every year when we do our annual shopping trip to NYC. The food and drinks are always great and it’s such a fun break from the hustle and bustle of Macy’s.
This year our reservation was on the Saturday before Easter. There were several issues, all related to the service. I’m not going into detail because at the end of our meal, the manager made it all right! We will go back next year. Sometimes restaurants have bad days. This was one of those.
Overall great experience with a great view. Food was very good, reasonably priced based on location. Service was good but sparse, needed a bit more follow up. Not sure if it was due to understaffing or inexperience as the crew armed amicable if a bit young/inexperienced?
Nice for a dinner with colleagues, I would recommend folk to check out the menu and photos online to see if it interested them based on their needs.
Followed their recommendation on OpenTable to use the 35th and Broadway entrance and elevator, deposited us right in the restaurant!
The food was great. Water glasses were filthy when we sat down.
Unexpectedly nice restaurant Covina middle of Macy’s. A real hidden gem!
Lunch Time with cousin!
really one of the finest pastas I've had in a long time; and in Macy's no less
Was pleasantly surprised with the overall experience after hearing so many reports about bad service. The staff was incredibly attentive from the minute we walked in. The food was good value for the money and for this meal the ambience was as important as of course the food. Was meeting a friend i haven't seen in years and we had a lot of catching up to do. Pasta was cooked perfectly and the thin crust pizza excellent. The per glass wine was a good value too. And, all of this inside Macy's who would have thought. The special elevator on 35th/Bdway entrance made it convenient so you didn't have to walk tru the store, however it was great to have the store to walk tru after a delightful meal.
A friend of mine discovered this place last summer and I have been going back ever since. I really like it, the not crowded atmosphere, the view of the Empire State building, the excellent service and last but not least, the food.
Food is AMAZING, view is SPECTACULAR, service is AWFUL!
Great place for lunch in Midtown South. The food was delicious, and the large windows make the space feel bright and spacious.
Food and service is always tops!
Decent but unremarkable. Service was slow which was not the end of the world. Place is a little sterile maybe music would give ambiance and replace the empty hooks on the wall! So few decent places near penn station has potential just needs tweaks.
