Stella 34 Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
I used to recommend Stella to anyone that would listen. Unfortunately after this visit, I can say that my opinion has changed. I was so excited about dining here, as it has always been a favorite...and was able to make a last minute reservation for my 50th Birthday after traveling to NYC from Nashville. Not sure why I was asked if it was a special occasion...no mention was ever made of it. Not even after I presented the birthday certificate you so graciously emailed to me. The food was blah at best and we received our first course before we even got our drinks. I think the server might have been a little off put by the fact that we were sharing items...we do that so that we can try more things....he even said ‘oh, so you aren’t having an entree’. That should have been an indication that it wasn’t going to be a celebratory experience. Very sad...I loved this place but with so many choices to dine in NYC, I’ll find another place next time. Not the 50th Birthday dinner I had hoped for.
Stop! Who knew that this gem of a restaurant was tucked away on the 6th floor of Macy’s Herald Square! Atmosphere was great. What a great view out to Manhattan and the Empire State Building! Pizza is notably as good as some I have had across Italy. Arncini (rice balls) were excellent. A must go to location.
A very good restaurant on the 6th floor of Macy’s Hearld Sq. The scallop crudo was fantastic, the artichoke toast also very good. The beet salad tasty, both pasta dishes also hit the mark with homemade noodles and flavorful sauces. We’d go back if in the area.
The worst service ever. Coming from someone who served many yeat... just asked what we wanted to eat. Um, I'd like a drink. And I'd like an appetizer. "I can't put an appetizer in before your meal. It'll mess the kitchen up".... oh? That's the craziest thing I've ever heard. I honestly felt like I was inconveniencing the server by being there. I had to ask someone else for water, which I NEVER do. Food was subpar and overpriced. I just really hate crappy service. I still tipped 20% but I'm super bitter about it.
After a day of shopping it was great to be able to eat at real restaurant and not just eat fast food. The view is spectacular and breathtaking- Esp when its snowing. The only setback is that the service was a bit rushed... our waiter seemed extremely busy and by default made us feel as if we were being rushed. I will never go during a high retail month like December, but will definitely go back on a less calmer month- in the hopes that the service will be better.
This was my second time visiting the establishment. I am from out of town and spent the day in the city with my girlfriends and lunch was fabulous! I requested seats by the window and when we arrived that’s exactly what we got. It was very enjoyable!
This restaurant is a hidden gem! The food is incredible, the service was fast and helpful, and the prices were reasonable. We had two children and two gluten free adults and we all had no trouble finding a perfect and delicious meal! The restaurant is bright and open, with a fun vibe.
With its view of the Empire State Building and Macy's location, Stella 34 is a great spot for your out-of-town friends. The Italian food is reliably good and reasonably priced. We've eaten here several times--on our own and with our out-of-town friends (who are always surprised by the space, good food, and view). While the service can be spotty, this place is an overall winner for a casual, comfortable, enjoyable meal at a reasonable price point.
Had another great meal here with the whole family, trying to get away from the chaos that is Macy's at Xmas. Staff were great - attentive, helpful and accommodating, but not judgmental which is just what parents need! Food is good, though not stellar, and I found the menu a bit limited, but all as to be expected in a dept store restaurant. The decor is great as is the urban view across Herald Sq.
The food at Stella 34 Trattoria is always wonderful, as is the service. And even though it's in Macy's, you don't feel like you're in a department stores. The windows look out on Seventh Ave and you're high enough up that you have a lovely view. A hidden gem in the neighborhood.
We were only in NY for a day and very excited to dine at this restaurant. The manager was extremely accommodating in pushing our reservation time up for our family (with a little girl who was very very hungry!) The food was cooked perfectly! Our waiter was attentive and personable! Our window view was AMAZING! My only constructive criticism would be to not allow your hostess to chew gum if they do not know how to do so with their months closed. Over all our experience was just what we expected and more! We will be back!
Disappointing place. View is great however, that's really all. Pasta was overcooked. Pizza was pretty good. Everyone that got salad said it was the worst they've ever had. Salad should be an easy ringer. Service was poor. The server was very hard to understand, when he was even around. Took an average of 20 minutes to refill drinks. Won't return.
This is our second time returning. Obviously the rating was better on our first visit. This time there was an obvious and disappointing change in the quality of the food. It tasted pretty bad and the what bothered me most was the measly portion size. This was less than a lunchtime portion, but for the same expensive price. They appear to have a pretty well stocked bar, however I requested a Shiraz and then requested a Malbec. Neither was available. I commented to the waitress, however I believe the restaurant is responsible for this unfortunate dining experience. My date and I now have to find a different place to dine before our evening shows. I have alway liked the ambience, but that's not enough to get us to come back.
Service was terrible slow and not responsive to children 11, 8 and 4. Drinks were not served on a timely basis, children’s pasta not hot and not served as requested with sauce on side. Table was not cleared before ordering dessert. Desert was also slow in coming.
