This is a great neighborhood restaurant! I have been going to many years since it opened and the menu has changed and I like it very very much! Our server was lovely too! And what a view of the Empire State Building!
Our first dinner during our first visit of New York. Found this place through open table. Nice location, nice & friendly staff and good food! I just have to get used to the high prices of New York. If this restaurant was rated $, i’ll never go to a $$ restaurant!
But i would definately recommend this place!
Good place for business lunch.
Food was too spicy and wasn’t disclosed on menu.
It's conveniently located inside Macy's Herald Square. The service was terrific and the food was very good. It was probably a little more expensive that i would have expected for the location and ambiance = but overall, it was a nice experience.
As always, above and beyond expectations! Delish!
Superb dining room staff! On point!
And we especially loved our immense round table!
No question, we will be back!
The next time I am in New York I will definitely be coming back! The food and service were both outstanding and a special note about the lasagna which was off the charts!!!!
We had a wonderful dinner of a shared appetizer, side dish and pizza. It was perfect. The brewed ice tea was great as well. Waiter was very pleasant and service was very good.
Very slow service, you have to beg a waiter to take care of you, you must beg for a glass of water, Food too salty (salad and pizza ) , only good thing is the view and the ambiance. Good luck!
Stella 34 is located in Macy's Department Store on 34th Street in Manhattan, and is a good place for casual dining. The food is basically Italian. My friend had been to the restaurant several times and on her recommendation we had lunch there. Lunch with a glass of wine, a shared dessert and tip was about $55 each, which I consider reasonable for a sit-down, served meal. However, service was wanting. For each course, we had to find our waiter; even for bread, we had to signal the maitre d' because our waiter was nowhere to be found. My friend assured me that this was unusual and that we happened upon a bad waiter. I would recommend this restaurant, only if you are in the area and/or shopping at Macy's. I would certainly not go out of my way to dine here.
The service were great. Our waitress were very nice and patient. The food tasted good. I just wish for them to have more food options. I feel the me u is a little bit limited. Other than that, everything else was great.
I've had dinner at Stella 4 or 5 times an also went to one wedding reception there so I'm obviously fond of the place. The prices seem reasonable for mid-town Manhattan, there are lovely views of the Empire State Building and the tables are not those "Teeny Tiny Postage Stamps" that one sometimes encounters at Manhattan restaurants which are paying enormous rents. There is also the fun of surprising people who don't know there is such a sophisticated restaurant in Macys. On Saturday the 24th my only complaint was that at the end of the meal our wait person seemed to forget us and the wait for our check got sort of long. But I'll be back.
Service was excellent.. beautiful restaurant! Delicious food except for the chicken sandwich.. very chewy! The staff took it off our bill very happily.
Conveniently located inside Macy's. Great service and food was good. Will definitely go back.
Food is good but very over priced. Went for lunch, but the best time to go is for dinner, if you can get seated looking out at the Empire State building.
This was my second time there, the 1st time was with my 14 year old granddaughter who absolutely loved the atmosphere and her food. This time was with my husband and he also liked it very much and the food was excellent. Loved Loved your coffee
The Madison Square Garden/Herald Square area is a surprising wasteland with respect pre-show options so Stella 34 is an excellent resource: consistently good food, and varied menu to accommodate quick snacks or full-course dining. It doesn't qualify as a true eating "destination" only because of its department store location but once in the restaurant, there isn't much to remind you that you're smack in the middle of Macy's. In any other spot, this restaurant would have hordes of devoted food-loving fans. It may already. We're just grateful it's there.
the food was okay. I am a foodie and like food that has flavor, but this wasn't quite there.
So the food was okay.
One thing that is unacceptable was, my friend ordered a beer and found a fly in it after taking a couple of sips. That's crazy and even though they were apologetic to this, they should have had given us a discount or at least free meal which obviously didn't happen.
I would not be going here again
The space is fantastic! All white with very clean lines and nice sized tables. Tons of windows give the space amazing light and it overlooks Herald Square. The food was amazing! We had calamari, shrimp artichoke risotto and beef ragout with pasta. All delicious! There were so many shrimp in the risotto. Most places usually skimp on the seafood but not here! The service could have been better. Our server clearly would’ve rather been anywhere else doing anything else. She promptly forgot our wine and blamed it on the bartender although I had a clear view of the bar and she never went to get it. This resulted in us drinking wine for dessert as we’d already finished our meals by the time the wine appeared. Otherwise it was a delightful experience! I’ve already recommended to friends and will go again when I’m back in town.
What a pleasant surprise this restaurant is. Tucked in a corner on the 6th floor of Macys, is this little gem. Surprisingly good food with a calm and trendy atmosphere. Service was slow so if you have to catch a train or a show at the Garden, leave enough time to enjoy your food
Travel to New York
Stella used to be amazing. Unfortunately it’s gone pretty down hill. Mediocre at best.
We were a big group-17 and they did an awesome job with our last minute arrangements on Valentine’s Day. Services was excellent for a group this siZe and we ordered pizzas and pastas and salads and everyone was pleased
I dine here very often and this was no let-down. The service was great and the food is always spectacular here from the presentation to taste. Perfect for a nice dinner date.
Wonderful! And it was Valentine's day...with my husband!
We came to celebrate Valentines Day. We were seated straight away and the service was great. I love the fabulous vegetarian options, the roasted eggplant is my favorite.
Everything here is amazing and delicious. There is nothing on the menu that I do not like. I highly recommend everyone to visit this place. Please be aware it is on the pricey side but it is delicious! Everyone must try Stella! Great date spot! All the service is very nice and friendly. They also make sure if anyone has any allergies or any strict diet.
we always enjoy the food and the atmosphere here. it is always a wonderful treat to enjoy this fabulous restaurant.
Last minute (1:35pm) was able to make a 1:45 reservation for 3. Staff was very friendly, great view of Empire State Building. We ordered 4 apps, a flatbread and one pasta dish and it was perfect. Apps we got calamari, meatballs, risotto balls, and charcuterie. Definitely a hidden gem within Macys and a perfect escape for a nice lunch if you work in the midtown/Herald sq area!
Friends gathered for dinner prior to the Westminster Kennel Club dog show. Knowing that good-quality restaurants are hard to find near Madison Square Garden, I recommended dinner at Stella 34. My friends, who were in NYC from Maryland, loved it. We were given an excellent table with a wonderful view of the Empire State Building. The menu was so appealing that it was difficult to choose. One friend and I had the branzino, which was delicious. Another guest had a seafood combination of octopus, shrimp and crab in a broth and enjoyed it. The fourth guest had a highly original pasta dish that was flavored with foie gras. The best part of the occasion was the service. Our server, Maddie, was courteous and professional and gave us outstanding advice about both the menu and the wine list. For the wine I chose a Montepulcianio, but Maddie guided us to a much more pleasant wine in the same price range (I wish I could remember the name of it). She brought a taste of both wines for me to try, and I definitely agreed that her suggestion was the right one. All of my friends were amazed by the very reasonable $45 per person bill (granted, we didn't have appetizers or dessert), and we were happy to leave a generous tip for Maddie.
Great place with a nice open view . Service is Ok, very friendly staff.
Great to grab lunch with friends & family. Everything I have tried so far is very tasty!
Will definitely go back again!
Great food and service! Enjoyed a combination of appetizers and lunch with a group of employees.
Disappointed that there were very few chicken entrees for a "italian restaurant"
Great post theatre meal. We always enjoy eating here, and shopping at Macys. We dined after the theatre but I recommend Stellas for pre theatre dining as well.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in New York City. Every aspect of the menu is wonderful - best focaccia I ever had, Brussels sprouts to die for, and eggplant that will knock your socks off! The list goes on and on, and oh, yes, the pizzas must be tried.
We love this restaurant for the ambiance and view and proximity to the Garden and Penn Station. It is wonderful to be able to hear oneself think, and to hear what others are saying at the table.
The food is good but can be a little pricey, and the portions are not that large. The menu is limited, so though it was my son's birthday, and we wanted to take him here, he wound up with a pizza, which he said was nothing special, nor was the calzone his wife ordered.
They were thrilled with the desserts and the other two mains and salad with shrimp were good.
This restaurant is located inside Macy's Dept. Store. It is a restful retreat after shopping or browsing. Food selection is plentiful and well-prepared. Prices are a little high, but quite manageable. Service was very good.
Service is too slow
The view was terrific Empire State Building right outside the window. Trying to find somewhere around Penn Station that isn't a Bar Crowd isn't easy but this is a place I would definitely suggest for anyone looking to stay around that area. Food was very good - service was spotty - but the ambiance was pleasant. Hidden (almost) gem inside Macy's on the 6th floor
Decent, but not anything I'll remember that fondly. It was a step above average for NYC. The room is great, as is the design. It's nice to eat in the old Macy's building, though taking the elevators, even the designated one, in Macy's may not be your ideal pre-dining experience. (That's not their fault.)
