The food was good but expensive. Our waiter hated his job and was rude
The food and atmosphere are outstanding and the prices are not bad for a Manhattan restaurant. I would go again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.
Spectacular food in a beautiful ambiance every time.
Interesting location.. the food was pretty good, in particular their pizzas and 1/2 chicken entree but had a really diverse selection.. . service was so so. We went with group of 4 of us for pre-dinner MSG concert meal. It really was a good choice being nearby the Garden and not crowded at all
The food was outstanding however our waiter was overwhelmed. It took more than a half hour for him to put our drink order in. Our drinks came after we were finished eating.
I loved this restaurant. It was a little confusing that it was inside Macy's, but it was delicious. My only problem is that the waiter clearly didn't like us after we said we didn't want to pay $5 A SLICE to cut our own cake. We said we just wouldn't have it and he was clearly annoyed. I did not appreciate the service but the food was phenomenal and it was so easy to get a reservation.
Food was good but small portions. On expensive side.
Food was good, had the lobster, was a little disappointed that it did not come with a baked potatoe or a salad. Overall a good location - nearby the majority of the trains.
Birthday Great Atmosphere great food great service we will definitely be coming back. As this is our 4th visit. Great find.
I've been to Stella several times before but never for dinner. The food is just wonderful and I liked the presentation. The service was a bit slower than I would have thought for a Monday evening.
The one thing, however, that we were all surprised at was that when we asked for bread, we were advised that it would be $8. We did purchase it; it was a small loaf, still warm and served with butter and salt on a bread board and I think some olive oil. It was delicious but we still bristled at the cost.
Switched waiters mid dinner, it got a little confusing
Everyone was wonderful/friendly/helpful...including the wait staff and the manager. Food was delicious. Desserts were extra special.
I've eaten here many, many times since it first opened. It was much better food at the beginning. I had
the meatball sandwich and did not care for it at all. My friend had a salad and said it was ok. I go here because it is convenient as I am always shopping at Macy's.
The food was quite well prepared and flavorful. The service was quick and efficient. We had an excellent view of the city from our table. We were very surprised that this restaurant existed inside of Macy’s and even more surprised that we were able to make a short notice reservation at a primo time.
I love the setting and view of midtown , east access from Penn Station and a little oasis within Macy’s. Great service and the food was good not great.
This is a nice place to have a good meal after shopping. No one rushes you to hurry through the meal. Cappuccinos are really delicious and comes with a small biscotti.
Wonderful lunch before fashion week! Our waiter was fantastic
Service was very slow. Waited for seating for 15 minutes even though there was no line and plenty of tables available. Server was also very slow and not helpful. Food was good but not exceptional.
We ordered two pastas and a bottle of wine. The pasta with the corn basically tasted like a can of corn and undercooked, flour-ey spaghetti noodles (and I like mine al dente, but this was just undercooked). The lamb pasta also was undercooked and you could almost feel the grains of flour on it as well. They didn't offer a tasting of the wine before pouring out the servings and it was way too sweet and wasn't refined at all.
The room is top notch, food inventive and tasty. Service was initially a little slow and inattentive but improved as the meal progressed. Great pre MSG dining spot.
Really enjoyed our meal! So many healthy and delicious choices to choose from ! The view was nice..service was good. Overall an enjoyable night! Meg
I’ve eaten here since the place opened. The room never disappoints — it is spectacular — not had the food until last night. The salad (di verdure) was a jumbled mess in a strangely sweet dressing, the vitello tonnato, a classic dish, was interpreted here with “cured veal.” Technically correct, but it was actually three micro-thin slices of veal tongue. I happen to like tongue, but I was in the mood for something closer to the classic. The papardelle was passable, but a bit stodgy. Very disappointing after the many fresh, clean delicious meals I’ve had here in the past.
I love Stella 34 and have from the start. They’ve changed things up a bit (no more bread and olive oil to start😕). But the food quality and service is still strong. ❤️
I thought the food was pretty solid. The wood roasted veggies were great. My gluten free pasta with their beef ragu was nice. I asked the waiter if the ragu was a shredded beef or a ground beef and he had no idea what I was talking about. I'll never understand how chefs do not train their waiters enough...but anyway..
My friend enjoyed the squid ink pasta with crab and the other 2 ordered the chicken which I believe they said was pretty good. The restaurant gives you a nice view of the Empire State Building and has a very casual feel. Other than the service being slightly polished up a bit I would recommend Stella 34!
This is my go-to place for lunch near my office. All of my guests have always been very impressed with it, especially, of course, the view, which is spectacular. The food is reliably tasty. However, recently the management decided to eliminate the complimentary slice (!) of bread they had long offered, and replace it with a loaf for which they charge $8. When I'm paying $26 for a smallish plate of pasta, it does not seem unreasonable to expect a slice of bread on the house. Being asked to pay an additional $8 is insulting. Moreover, the last time I was there the waiter urged me and my lone companion to try the bread, even though it says on the menu that it serves 4. The management needs to wake up to the fact that they are alienating longtime customers with this ungracious and greedy move. Shame on them.
I used to look forward to dining here every trip to NY...but not any more. They used to have a great tapas selection which I enjoyed, but stopped that a few years ago. I used to go there specifically for their eggplant Parmesan which was cut shaved thin, with a fresh zesty tomato sauce, baked and then a they came around to fresh grate Parmesan on the spot. This trip, it was really bad. I can't describe the tomato sauce, but something out of a jar would have been better. Also, no more freshly grated cheese...just a bowl of food service Parmesan. The server suggested some red pepper 'to help'...but they did not. I left most of my $27 entree. I am very disappointed that Stella has gone downhill.
Nice place for a business, family meal. Food and service are good.
Wanted Italian and tough to find an open table on a Saturday night in the Theater district. Hard to find in Macy’s, were sat without menus, took a while to even order drinks, and the menu was limited. Ended up ordering a $58 lasagna which was soggy. The restaurant was pretty and we ended up getting half off of our check because of how displeased we were but would recommend looking elsewhere or make the trip to Little Italy for good food.
Been to Stella 34 several times and has always been wonderful. This time, not so much.
Bartender and drinks at the bar were fine, drinks brought to table were watered down, very little alcohol.
Our server was terrible. She came to the table and asked if we were ready to order, not if we wanted drinks. We ordered the terrible drinks when she brought them she didn't clear the table of my previous cocktail glass. We were never told if there were any specials and no bread or oil were brought to the table.
We eventually ordered a bottle of wine as the cocktails were awful. When the wine and glasses were brought, she left the cocktail glasses on the table. She never really checked in to see how things were or if we needed anything. I was embarrassed as I was the one who told the others what a great spot this was. The whole thing was very disappointing.
As always, the food and the service was impeccable.
My only complaint is that Stella 34 removed the complimentary bread slices and replaced it with a loaf of bread available on the menu. A full loaf is more than a table of 2 require.
Good Restaurant need more signs in Macy’s to help find it. All dishes did not arrive together soup came last
Excellent. Who’d a thunk it; a great Italian restaurant in Macy’s?!?!? Well it is true, very true!
Excellent but portions too small.Food however was delicious.
Such a lovely setting and very convent to MSG. Was so pleasantly surprised!
Excellent service and food. Great place if you have tickets for msg.
Been a few times as it one of my favorite restaurants. No longer offer bread basket b4 dinner which I miss & there are new servers, miss some of the older staff members.
Perfect spot in NYC for meeting friends who you haven’t seen in 20 years!
Majorly Overpriced. Bland food. Bad service. Would not recommend.
Gem of a straight-up Italian restaurant on top of Macy's Herald Square. Reasonably quiet and well priced. Food isn't astonishing in any way, but it's very solid with high quality ingredients.
