We've dined at Steins in Mountain View several times - this was our first time at Steins in Cupertino. The space here is cool and spacious - cement floors, big windows, cozy tables. It's also cold (temperature) inside. And it is loud. The cement floors and high ceilings make for a lively, loud experience. Sadly, they ran out of pretzels right after we arrived, though a table that was seated after us got pretzels... It took a while for our server to get to our table, and due to the noise, it was hard for him to hear our orders. I asked for a taste of the strawberry beer, but that never came. Overall the food was pretty good. Portion size is not out of control. My husband had the burger (and enjoyed it), I had the strawberry & kale salad with chicken (tasty), another in our group had the chicken sandwich (liked it), and the other person had the fish of the moment (liked it too).
We had party of four reservations which were well handled and the four of were seated quickly. But then we waited for ten minutes before even seeing the waiter. We tried ordering several Beers and even some food which they were “out of”. On a Saturday. At 6:15pm. The food was very good, but expected as the prices were a bit high (yeah it’s in Cupertino).
It wasn’t a bad experience, but I generally expect food and service to be on point on a Saturday night.
The food and service was nice, I just can't think of an occasion in which I would go back. I went there on a date, which went well, but the room was crowded and very noisy for on a Wednesday night; not the best ambiance for a date. I could see the place doing well as a sports bar: lots of TVs and noisy environment is perfect, but the food and brinks were a bit pricy for a casual night watching the game with friends.
Awesome breakfast! Food was amazing and terrific bloody mary!
We were sitting with children close to open doors to garden, so we were feeling little bit cold but otherwise really good!
Good food and service
The noise level at this place is out of hand. Unfortunately the industrial feel of the place (which is really cool *looking*) adds to a major echo-y distracting space - not conducive to visiting. I was there for a night out with my girlfriends - and because of the noise, it felt like we had to shout to hear each other. NOT relaxing. I will return to Stein's but only when I can be seated outside where there's less noise/echo.
Great service and great food
My friends took me to Steins for my birthday and it was rad. Great pilsners, great service, great food! The chicken burger was delicious! Our waitress was so great, and answered any questions we had about the menu items. Our host was genuinely so sweet and accommodating from the moment he sat us too! It's a bit echoey inside, so I appreciate the planter wooden space dividers for more privacy and better hearing too.
Everything was good the only thing that I’ve didn’t like was very loud music. I still have a headache
Enjoyed the experience....didn’t see the games, food was prompt, hot and delicious. Its definitely noisy and loud, tough to have a conversation at times but lively and fun. Huge variety of beers and staff very knowledgeable.
Ribs were cooked too long, mashed potatoes weren't anything special. Mac and cheese was ok but nothing special about that either. Bartender doesn't know how to make cocktails or maybe doesn't have what's needed to make good cocktails. I ordered a classic mojito and there was no mint, no club soda and way too sweet. BUT the house salad and the Jameson bread pudding were great. We wouldn't go back
New menu is a great improvement over the original. Quality was very good. Some dishes are a little pricey fir the serving size. Good beer selection.
We had an early reservation, the restaurant was empty. Service was so slow, took forever before someone took a drink order. Menu was small and overpriced. Several items were unavailable like chicken wings??? Had to send back a cocktail, bartender made a mistake too much buttered and sweet vermouth. Food was terrible and way overpriced.
Food was too spicy!
Stein's is a bit self-consciously "cool", especially about it's "made from scratch" food. (I know that chain restaurants such as Outback have pre-made veggies etc shipped to their restaurants and simply heated there, but I assume(d) that all stand alone restaurants make their food "from scratch"? That said, the setting is fun and ambiance definitely "Silicon valley young techie". My friend and I could hear each other well on our small table, but I am not sure that you could hear your friends at a larger table. My burger was tasty, and my friend's fish dish looked delicious. Only the "made from scatch" fries were so-so. Not big enough if you like them "hand cut" and not thin enough if you like them the way they are in France.
When booking on Open Table I was not given the option of indoor or outdoor seating so of course they tried to seat me outside. They were quick to fix it but I suggest calling and telling them where you want to sit to avoid this confusion.
the seating could be a little better. Chairs could be a little padded ..... too much like a cafteria seating.
Great service at Steins with a selection of beers on tap that should delight even the most discriminating palate. Not all the food is a hit, but definitely try the burger. The Mac and cheese is decent and the wings were good but not worth the price. The “bread pudding” is more like half-dipped French toast than a proper bread pudding that’s soaked in a custard and baked. Overall, go here for beer and burgers and you will not be disappointed.
Great for groups - can converse and hear each one out. Not so noisy, but vibrant enough. Will visit again.
Casual atmosphere. Kid-friendly. Appreciate the games/cards available. Good comfort food. Needs better salads.
Noisy place but has an active vibe. Lots of beer chhoices. Generous with tastes to hep you decide.
It REALLY bugs me when I get my dinner order before my drink arrives when a bar/restaurant is clearly not busy... but it happened at Steins! Despite two requests to the servers to pick up my drink (I could see it just sitting under the tap!), they did nothing to expedite the drink delivery. It was as if they were afraid to remind the barman who was chatty-chatty with everyone and plainly forgot to finish what he was doing. Seems kinda wrong that they expect an 18%+ tip for actually being obstacles to a nice evening.
Food was ok. I like the idea of this place but didn’t rate the service at all. It’s a “beer garden” but they take forever to get you a beer!
Service was bad and slow. The server was not all interested in serving the food. Considering that they just had to keep an eye on 3 tables it was pathetic service. Beer wasn't cold . I have been to the moutain view which i love , compared to that this was meh!!!
Absolutely fabulous! We were lucky to be there while they were celebrating Oktoberfest and we each ordered a different item from the limited Oktoberfest menu and had amazing meals. The beers were of course, fresh and delicious. All the foods are scratch-made and so fresh; I have never had such outstanding sauerbraten. The prices were excellent as well. We will visit again next time we are in that area. Excellent service as well.
Went with my Son and his girlfriend to celebrate his birthday.
We had a great time. The food and service was on point even though it was slightly crowded
on Saturday Night.
Will be back to have some beers and watch some sports next time.
The server was extremely nice and we definitely felt like we were taken care of! They have great drinks too! The only thing was the food was just a little dry and a bit oily for our liking. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing!
Great food, drinks, and service! Will definitely be back again
We came with two toddlers and the staff were very gracious about them running around. They brought the kids’ dishes quickly and made sure parents had enough beer :)
Came here to brunch; surprised it's not crowded on a sat at this location.
Staff was very friendly; food was great with reasonable prices (for the location); they are dog friendly (at the patio area).
Btw they provided fresh & warm complementary scones !
The food was great. They offer a variety of options from burgers and sandwiches to salads and main entrees. The quinoa and butternut squash salad was delicious, adding grilled steak made it even better. It had the perfect amount of acidity and the flavors were spot on. Very light and refreshing but also filling. I was not able to finish all of it on my own but the table was happy to try it and they all loved it as well. The sausage plate appetizer is a must if you like meat. The dish comes with two types of sausages, slaw, pickles, toast and a gourmet mustard spread. Everything on this plate was amazing. We also ordered the mini corn dogs and those were just okay in my opinion. A little dry and plain for my taste. The burgers were also a big hit in our group as were the mussels and clams dish. We ended the meal with dessert. We ordered the doughnuts and the bread pudding. By far the doughnuts were preferred. They are a good size, we cut them in half so everyone could try them. The bread pudding was not super flavorful and a little disappointing so if you are going to dessert go with the doughnuts! They also have a great selection of beer, wine and cocktails. Overall a wonderful dinner and an added bonus that they have a bunch of board games to play pre or post dinner.
Strange flavors with all the food
I love this place for their awesome selection on their rotating taps. I always get the Pork Belly Mac n' Cheese here...
Excellent Food and Beer selection. They have a full bar and the menu is great. Some traditional beer hall selections and some fresh idea menu selections for those who want a bit of a lighter meal. Great staff. Food is elevated - definitely a place to check out as soon as you can.
As usual, the food was absolutely excellent, the service could have been better and I love this place!
Great upscale bar food, very attentive service. Not a beer fan so was skeptical, but the cocktail choices were excellent.
Steins Beer Garden is a beautifully designed place with a lovely outdoor patio seating. The manager Craig was extremely helpful and very nice; the MAIN reason for my 4-star rating on Service. However, my Fried Chicken Sandwich was overcooked as the Chicken was pretty burned and tough, the Ciabatta buns were hard. Would have been better to order the Steins Burger. Dessert of Fried Donut Crullers was EXCELLENT.
Excellent, couldn’t have asked for more!
Started out with slow service but the manager made up for it and in the end our experience was very positive!
