Steinhilber's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I decided take my family to this restaurant for Valentine's Day after hearing about how great the shrimp are. We had a reservation, but still had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. Our waiter showed up rather quickly, so I thought that the wait would be worth it. He came back with our drink order and took our appetizer order. After waiting for about 20 minutes, only 2 out of 3 of our appetizers showed up. He brought our salads out (thank God we ordered salad....)but we still had to wait another hour for our dinner entrees to arrive. Our waiter kept apologizing for the slow service from the kitchen, but apparently this is a regular occurrence at this restaurant. I thought that maybe they had just overbooked for the night, but I have seen similar reviews on Facebook from others who had the same experience we did. The food was good, but it was not worth the wait or the price. I will never go back, and will tell everyone about my experience.
Valentine's Day 2015 - If you want to make that "extra" buck by adding more tables and chairs into your dining rooms, PLEASE PLEASE add more wait staff and MOST CERTAINLY more cooks and stoves in your kitchen. We waited an hour and a half for our meal which arrived lukewarm at best. Almost had to sit in the lap of the lady at the next table because we were so crammed into the restaurant. Wait staff had trouble getting around all of the tables and chairs....it definitely was NOT romantic nor intimate for a memorable dinner with my spouse.....you could look around and see the same, disappointed look on everyone else's face.
Ordered seared tuna rare and we waited almost an hour to get our food. When they finally served it, the tuna was medium and not seared. The manager and server were very apologetic and we didn't even have to pay due to the issues. This was a nice gesture on the part of the manager, but I would have much rather had my food in 25 minutes, cooked the way I ordered it, than have a free meal. I wasn't there for a free meal and I likely won't be returning very soon.
The service was fabulous as it always has been.
My husband's she crab soup tasted like vinegar. Mine was fine though. The crab ball appetizer was delicious, as were the shrimp and rockfish dinners.
We would recommend Steinhilber's but with a note to be prepared for the price.
We went for VA Beach Restaurant Week. We had never been, and didn't know it was a "nice" restaurant; the servers and service were reminiscent of Morton's (The Steakhouse). We ordered off the Restaurant Week menu (not sure if the dishes are part of their regular menu). Everything was delicious. The service was outstanding. The only complaint I have is that their tables are a bit too close to each other; if the lady at the table next to ours had turned her chair around, she would have been able to eat off of our table.
This was my second time going there. The food is always excellent. We ordered the Steinie Shrimp (which are huge) for an appetizer and the sauce that was paired with it was perfect! I ordered the trout for my main entree which was also good, but it was the whole fish with the head and skin on which could bother some people. For dessert I had a chocolate mousse which was light, but delicious.
A bit disappointed that it took a while for someone to acknowledge us after we had been seated, otherwise service was good. Everyone enjoyed their meal, salmon, baked seafood and fried seafood platter. The rice was not that appetizing. Potatoes were very good. Had a party of 4. I think the place lends itself better to intimate romantic dinners as tables are very close together making it a little tricky for waiters to move about freely and guests not having to worrying about bumping into each other. Nice ambiance, friendly staff.
Overpriced; charged $4 for 1/2 twice baked potato; $6 for a pitiful salad; crab cakes nothing special. They charge $1 for dill sauce? That seems tacky for entrees that are 28-over 30$. The waitress brought "toast" with our drinks and the cornbread and rolls with dinner....which doesn't make sense. They are known for their fried shrimp....we don't eat fried food. We have only gone there with our friends who like it...they like the shrimp....which I am sure is frozen in December. Locals seem to love it....but am not sure where else they have eaten with a comparable price/ambience. There is better in Virginia Beach! Sorry to give it a poor review....but we have eaten at better in the area.
We have been visiting Steinys for decades. We always have the fantail fried shrimp. In case you are wondering, as an appetizer, a half dozen is more than enough for two. The rest of the menu is also good, the wine list is extensive. The surprising thing for first time visitors is that the restaurant is in a residential neighborhood of single family homes.
The tables were really close together which increased the noise level and removed any chance of private conversations. My chair was knocked by wait staff walking by four times within the first ten minutes we were there; no one appologized. My daughter is a vegetarian; only one item on the menu fit this description. Our waitress brought her some bread since she didn't find anything on the menu to eat. Very expensive.
Enjoyed our first visit although there was a private party taking place we were quickly shown the outside deck where we ordered a cocktail our waiter was awsome! After a little wait we were shown our table right in the heavy traveled path where they quickly took to of our chairs to make room for the party people to storm thru we were ask to move to the inside seat at our table so we would be out of the way . As for the food my only complaint was the shrimp had a metalic flavor which i was afraid of my boyfreind tasted mine and agreed my plate of shrimp had a funny taste a little disapoonted with my plate because of that the atmosphere was nice
We went for our anniversary dinner. Table for 4 was ready 30 minutes after we reserved. They sent us to the bar, which was setup for a private party & they put up a screen to separate us. When we did get seated, the main room is very noisy & touching elbows with the next table. Cost of food is very high compared to other good restaurants, total $150 for 2 with 3 drinks, no dessert, seems high.
Restaurant was very nice and food and staff were awesome.....however the downfall is its very pricey for the amount of food you get and a meat dish does not come with any sides, you have to pay extra for that which is rediculous because the dish I had was 32.00 with NO SIDES....
There are not many white-jacket restaurants around anymore. Steinys is the best in my opinion. The food is always outstanding and unique. The service was impeccable... ex. - How many places will top your water off constantly during your meal? Not many. Price is higher than most chain restaurants, but the same for local high end restaurants. Therefore, Steinys wins my vote. A+!
Fabulous food and service--my brother and I treated our parents to dinner here to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and we made a perfect choice! I am allergic to shellfish so I could not enjoy the famous fried shrimp, but everybody else did and they loved it! My prime rib was cooked to perfection and tasted great. Our server, Clint, was attentive and efficient and made good suggestions throughout the evening.
Excellent restaurant choice when visiting Virginia Beach. A family run restaurant where they really care about your dining experience and food preparation. Owners are present and mingling with guests, checking to make sure they are satisfied and ever need/ want is met. Food is FABULOUS and DELICIOUS from the appetizers through the desserts. Service is outstanding and professional with much attention to details. It's a hidden gem. My husband and I got seafood. We ordered the Colossal Lobster Tail (18 oz.) and Tuna (Black/ Blue). Excellent choices which come with side choices and vegetables. You will not go home hungry. My husband and I will be returning. Highly recommend and give it the highest remarks as a DIAMOND OPENTABLE member. MUST try it...Well worth the visit. You will not be disappointed :)
We enjoyed the atmosphere, food and professional service. Also enjoyed a brief history on the restaurant by our waitress. The only downside is lighting in the exterior dining area. We had to use our waitress cell phone (flashlight app) to see the menu. Other than that, I will be back.
Loved the experience and attmosphere. Service was all I could have wished for to celebrate a special birthday. The food was perfect as was our waiter. I can't wait to return, thank you Jeannie and the rest of the staff for a very memorable evening with dear friends.
