Steelpan - Sonesta Fort Lauderdale
During COVID-19 emergency we are offering our full menu available for take out daily until 6:00 PM.
Everything was excellent but the music was a little loud
Chef Kevin is AMAZING with food allergies !!!! Staff and food couldn’t be nicer and better ! Great view !!
Ignored at our table for 20 plus minutes and when the food arrived it was not very good. We will not be back.
I was expecting Steelpan to be a more vibrant Caribbean fare restaurant and it was the complete opposite. They sell this restaurant online as having lots of seafood a lot of recommendations on the coconut shrimp. But when you get there it’s more of a quick bite lunch kind of a place. To me it’s a basic hotel restaurant with NO CARRIBBEAN DISHES! The only “carribbean” thing there was jerk chicken and “jerk flavored” burgers. All in all a terrible dinner experience! The service seemed sub-par with untrained servers. I just was not impressed at all. My group ended up leaving and going to a restaurant 3 blocks away and had a great time. I would leave this place for when I’m coming from the beach looking for burgers and fries.
Great ambience and service. Will be back to try the snapper
It was a good experience
Food, staff, ambiance, music.....all amazing. Perfect date night place to spend with my love.
This is a modern, upbeat restaurant that serves delicious, well presented food with super friendly staff. Steelpan is located in the Sonesta Hotel offering a fantastic view of the beach and the ocean. The super friendly staff that I mentioned earlier are Steve and Amy. They both made great efforts and were pleasant throughout the evening. The executive chef Kevin, stopped by the table to say hi. We had a nice conversation about the menu options and as you can see by the pictures, his efforts and suggestions were well received. My wife and will definitely come back and try just about everything on this menu!
We were intrigued by the food and bar menu. Four of our group of six arrived on time. No server greeted us. In fact, they seemed to be avoiding eye contact. We waved down Steve who sent our server over. First round of drinks came out all wrong. Corrected. Econ’s round also not correct. Server frustrated. Blamed on bartender. But she did not LOOK at the drinks To see what they were. “They were by your ticket” “I just picked them up “. One of our entrees did not arrive with the rest. Had to call Steve back about this. Steve very nice and comped some drinks, gave discounts. Too much work on our part for a nice dinner.
Wonderful dinner with family. Wonderful server, Kelly. Food was delicious! Musical entertainment was great.
Great experience! Our waiter Che man was very friendly and attentive. Food was interesting and flavorful.
Great place - wonderful food and family friendly environment.
Great breakfast buffet
Slow bar service beforehand. Noisy live music IN RESTAURANT, completely unnecessary. Spoilt the ambience and I had to move to an alternative table.
Excelente lugar frente al mar con comida típica de sur de Florida y caribe
Steelpan is in a lovely hotel right across from the beach so outside dining is a treat. I was there during Restaurant week so we were able to enjoy a three course prix fixe meal. The appetizer (caribbean jerk wings), main course (snapper) and dessert (chocolate cake with coconut ice cream) were all delicious. The Chef was very personable and went around greeting guest which was a nice touch.
I highly recommend this restaurant and the hotel.
Everything was delicious.. main dishes were both too salty.
Food choices all very good & generous portions
Fun place right on the water. Happy hour apps and drinks are exceptional value. Live entertainment
Food is consistent and good. Great place for a couple or a group of friends.
Fantastic creative Caribbean food, great frozen Rose, fun vibe, amazing view of the ocean!
Our first time here and it was great.
It lives up to all the positive reviews.
We will definitely be back.
Truly awful. Won’t be back. Ever.
Wait staff was prompt but it took very long for our food to arrive and the restaurant wasn’t busy. Food was very good
Highly recommend. One of my new favorite restaurants in the FTL area. Fun, casual and great food. Chef is wonderful.
My partner ordered the jerk wings. They were extremely bland with very little flavor. I ordered the crevice. The portion was very small and again not well seasoned. My entree was the mahi fish sandwich with mixed greens but it came with French fries and had to be sent back. My partner ordered a burger with sweet potato fries but it came with regular fries.
There was live music but the musician was horrible. Almost sounded tone deaf. We were relieved when he took a break and the piped music started.
Awful overall. We will not be going back.
Great service, delicious cocktails, outstanding favor in the meal I ordered. Don’t leave without Desert I highly recommend that wonderful chocolate lava cake with homemade coconut ice cream presentation was fantastic I will return
Entree of only five items. Not enough to choose from. When I saw ad for restaurant made plans to go with my husband on Sunday and Had plans to take my friend there this week but won’t be going again.
Took my husband there for Fathers day from a radio ad. We made reservations but it wasn't needed as there were plenty of tables available. The waitress was high spirited and very attentive. I was disappointed in the serving sizes but the excellent flavors made up for lack in volume. My husband ordered the short ribs and I ordered the whole snapper. Ribs were tender and the purple mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious. I was very impressed with the snapper and my frozen mango drink (virgin) was a cool addition to our evening. Overall, we were very pleased and look forward to coming back to visit a second time.
New place w/ live steel drum music/ singer a few nights a week which was super fun. Took awhile at happy hour time to get our waitress, but then all went aok. Enjoyed the food & can see the beach across the street.
Food was mediocre at best, air condition vents dripping water continuously if you’re sitting inside, Caribbean food with no flavor extremely bland. I asked for hot sauce and they brought Tabasco... in a Caribbean themed restaurant... not a steel pan in site they should have one at least for pics if not to play or have someone playing one at least on the weekends. Food is way overpriced and isn’t consistent for where the steelpan was invented TRINIDAD & TOBAGO. Restrooms were also senseless as you’re using the pool restrooms which are soaked floors across the pool area from the restaurant... last but not least drinks were bad and even worse a tiny paper straw to drink a frozen drink doesn’t work ...
Very good service was great
The shrimp appetizer with fried avocado was very good. For dinner the dolphin sandwich was also very good. The key lime pie was okay...........I always find it strange that restaurants advertise "key lime pie" and then put a slice of Persian lime as a garnish.
Please do not waste your time at this restaurant.
We walked in to be seated for a 8pm reservation. No hostess was to be found (Sign #1) even though there were only 20 people tops in the restaurant (Sign #2). An employee from the hotel had to locate someone for us. We asked to sit outside and while it was great weather there were no lights at all. Meaning good luck reading the menu or seeing your food. The server Amy (Best thing about the evening) recommended the Burrata app ($12 on the menu). The pineapple bread that came with it tasted like it’s been sitting there since breakfast two weeks prior. Overall there was no taste at all to the app. We had to add multiple condiments. Yes i know this isn’t an Italian restaurant but still. We shared the Jerk Chicken & Dumplings ($19) and the Yuca Fries ($5). The Jerk was unique but not seasoned enough for us. I’ve had Jerk in Jamaica multiples times while on business trips and this tasted kind of like Pollo Tropical. The yuca was very good as well as the dipping sauce. Next the bill came and it had $16 for the app and $6 for the yuca. Yes it’s only $5 but it’s the principle. Amy said no one has ever brought this up to them in the month they’ve been open. Sounds strange to me. Overall and unfortunately this restaurant will be lucky to make 6 months. Too many corrections to make here. There are many great restaurants on the busier part of A1A including S3 and Coastal.
