Overall good experience
Steelhead is a fun, quirky twist on the old run of the mill diner. The main difference is that the menu is anything but diner fare. The seafood was the best we had in 3 days of Seattle chowing. Our waitress was extremely courteous and went beyond the call when there was a mix up in the wine menu. Great place to take a meal or an adult beverage.
Our waitstaff was very pleasant. Our po’boys were good but wouldn’t win any awards; I felt the same about the razor clam chowder.
My only disappointment was that despite having reservations, we ended up at the least desirable table in the restaurant. It was right on the corner with a lot of traffic and not much room to maneuver. I also shared a booth seat with a 4-top next to us who were pretty loud. Even though the table was on opposite side from the front door, it was propped open despite a cold wind pouring into the restaurant which made it chilly and uncomfortable.
I’ve been to Steelhead in the past and sat at the bar and those experiences were pleasant, but I wouldn’t return for table service.
While on vacation in Seattle, my wife and I dined at the Steelhead Diner prior to heading out to the theater. We were able to get a reservation and let our server know that we needed to be out by a certain time, which she was more than happy to accommodate us. My wife ordered the salad with pears and goat cheese, while I had the flash fried pork belly, which were both excellent. For our entrees, my wife ordered the black cod, while I had the fish and chips. While we typically share our appetizers and entrees, we both found ourselves not wanting to share as we both felt what we ordered was so good (we shared any way). The dinner was great and we were out of there with plenty of time to spare. The restaurant was a bit noisy, but that's to be expected on a Saturday night.
Consistently EXCELLENT fresh fish choices - a "10" every time!
Great service and excellent food. It’s a bit loud during brunch, but definitely still a nice experience!
Amazing food and service. Also very accommodating with orders-- spicy dishes were toned done at our request, whole fish could be de-boned if you prefer... Let's just say that although the portions were generous, there were no leftovers. The only disappointing thing was that our table was in a corner, literally in front of sliding closet doors. Perhaps drapes could be put up in front of the doors for a nicer ambience...
Always great food and excellent service. I try to eat here every time I am in Seattle it never disappoints.
I found the Steelhead Diner to be a great place to go with friends and family. The menu is varied enough to find something to your taste. My salad was deliciously fresh with delightful subtle flavor combinations. Service was great, but servers should be mindful to watch the shades in the afternoon. I was grateful for the sunshine( just not in my eyes) and asked the blinds to be drawn, but it didn't happen.
My husband and I went to Steelhead Diner before a show at the Moore Theater. We found the service to be friendly and knowledgeable (wine recommendation was spot on). The food was delicious -- not low calorie for sure! I started with the prosciutto and apple appetizer while my husband had the shrimp/crab fritters. The prosciutto had the fresh, quality ingredients necessary for a relatively simple item. The greens could have use a bit more oil dressing. The shrimp/crab fritters were yummy especially the horseradish aioli. For an entree, I had the coffee-rub steak which was came out a perfect "medium" pink throughout. And the final piece de resistance was the chocolate pecan pie -- just the right ratio of pecans to filling to crust and not overly sweet which some pecan pies can be. Overall we really enjoyed our meal and will look to return in the future.
Excellent service......great food served with a flair..
My favorite place, love the Spring rolls. Turnover is wait staff really shows, but we are still considering Steelhead for my daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner.
Ok food in a good location. nothing to rave about or go out of your for, but a decent choice if you are in the neighborhood and want to try something else.
Awesome, as always! Steelhead has never disappointed me. Thanks Chef Anthony!
We were a party of three on a rainy day and two of us were very early. They seated us right away and got us beverages and some bread to nosh on while we waited. After our friend arrived, we ordered. Our food came out quickly. Everything we had was well-prepared and delicious. This was my third time at this restaurant. We'll be sure to eat there again. It was a little difficult finding parking. They might want to include parking info on their website. If it's there, I didn't notice it. Thanks very much to maitre d' and staff.
I’m a fan of clam chowder and the Steelhead Diner has the best chowder of the many many that I have tried!
Not much in the way of atmosphere but the food was surprisingly good and, by Seattle standards, reasonably priced.
The front door was left open so was cold - it is January!!
Also no music.
We shared a crabcake for starters and all loved it. We all recommend it. I appreciated the full wine list with local wines by bottle and glass. We ordered by the glass and were happy with the full pours. The fish and chips was rated among the best in Seattle. It smelled great but we all found it a bit bland. Maybe it would have been better with spicy cocktail sauce. We went when our reservation was scheduled and due to circumstances, no one was particularly hungry. The menu looked good with many things that would have tempted me and fun to try at another time. The service was good - wait staff were all friendly and attentive. Noise level was good - which is impressive in this age where everyone wants to have as much noise as possible in a restaurant so that I can't hear anyone speak - this was NOT the case here I am happy to report.
We really enjoyed our annual company dinner in the backroom at Steelhead Diner. The server (can't remember her name but she was from Kentucky originally) was excellent and very kind and considerate.
