Steelhead Diner Ratings and Reviews
We had read about this place and gave it a try. We arrived early for our reservation but were pleased that we were seated immediately even on a busy Saturday evening. The craft beer selection was not as extensive as I had hoped but did include a satisfactory choice. I had the Alaska razor clam chowder, which was rich and tasty. Entree choices were the whole trout, which was excellent, and the fish and chips. The ling cod fish was nicely battered and melt-in-your-mouth, accompanied by a very good tartar sauce (the server had thoughtfully also asked about, and provided, malt vinegar) and nondescript fries. We also ordered a side of broccoli with cashews and dried chilies. Warning--do not make my mistake. I bit off and swallowed half of a dried chili, and then spent several minutes trying to douse the flames in my mouth and throat. I don't know where they get their chilies, but that one was the hottest thing I have ever eaten. Other than that incident, the experience was generally a good one.
Enjoyed our waiter and appreciated his enthusiasm for the food. It was our first time dining at Steelhead Diner, so we were eager to try it all. So glad we sampled the gumbo, the collard greens and the crab and shrimp tater tots. The tots were especially good with the table top vinegar. Best surprise, however, was the black cod. Will come back, again, simply for that dish. We had only wished it was served with a side of rice, to soak up all the delicious sauce.
Service and food was all very good and reasonable priced, just not quite enough to blow me away for 5 stars. Went during a busy brunch time, so we did notice our food took a little while to get to us, but it was hot and tasty and all the staff were very friendly.
The food fell short. I had the halibut and the cabbage on top did not add to the dish and the fish was over cooked. If my husband hadn’t shared I would’ve left hungry. He had fish and chips, they were good but not the best or near what we’ve eaten at other places. Our guest ordered the pasta which was good but had fried tofu in it. The tofu had no value decor added protein. I would not recommend this restaurant to family & friends
We ate during restaurant week so we got an outstanding value. The braised short ribs were tender and flavorful. The chocolate dessert was really good, but the thick ganache piped on the plate was a little too much chocolate. The caramel apple dessert was a little to sweet for me, but my companion really liked it. On another note, the Sunday brunch here is great.
Well I was actually nervous to go here the reviews are SOOOO hit or miss but thankfully we must have caught it on a good night. Great dinner, great service, perfect pace. Kids meal portions are VERY generous which is wonderful. Michael our server was great.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone because this restaurant automatically applies a 20% gratuity to the check, taking away my ability to tip based on service provided. I understand part of the reason is to ensure a portion of the tip goes to the back of the house, however that burden should not be placed on me as a diner. I should be able to tip as I feel is warranted based on the service I receive, the restaurant should take care of it's staff out of it's own pocket. The restaurant should tell diners of this policy UP FRONT VERBALLY as I would not have eaten here if I had known about the automatic 20% gratuity. I will not recommend this restaurant for this very reason, regardless of how good the food may be.
Have eaten here many times and always excellent. I usually have the cioppino and I feel they do the best in town. This time I had the pasta on the restaurant week menu which was excellent. Too bad they weren't too forthcoming in promoting the restaurant week menu.
Just good food, good service, good atmosphere, good place; everything works well here. Menu is varied and sumptuous. Wait staff are friendly and not stuffy, very good with wine recommendations, don’t be afraid of asking questions, they are there to make sure you have a great dining experience. Come as you are and have a great meal.
Very disappointed how Steelhead Diner has placed a 20% Min tip (on top of tax too!) and failed to deliver 20% of value in sub par service. Aside from that gripe, the food has also deteriorated from what was one of my “go to” spots. The $14 martini arrived warm and server refused to remake. The food also was not coursed so when the Salad and the side (collard greens) arrived at the same time I requested that the side be returned with main course. Well that came 3 min later. Needless to say the starter salad was eaten first. The side and entree was then sent back and returned later. So much for piping hot. Was more like day old left overs. Frustrating that the mandatory tip was 20%. Fool me once... remembering the good ol days. (Party of 3 $234. Next.
Love this restaurant. It has no pretension and could if it wanted. The food is always interesting and wonderful. The menu seems to change constantly with whatever is fresh. The tastes are superb. When friends come from out of town, this is on my short list of preferred options. Near the market, I reserve early to see the sunset and enjoy the cuisine. Never been disappointed .
Always a GREAT meal. For my out of town business guests this is always my "Go To" spot to give them a taste of Seattle.
The Service and food is spot on and consistent so I make this a mandatory dinner event.
For personal dinners my wife and I have enjoyed many an anniversary and celebration here both with and without friends with consistent results.
Chef Anthony is another reason we like to sit at the kitchen window. He is friendly, informative and dinner theatre here is a lot of fun watching them cook and pump out the food.
Mixed reviews this time. The crusty bread with olive oil and butter were terrific. My decaf at the end of the meal was excellent. My sauteed trout was underwhelming. It was cooked beautifully but needed seasoning. The plate was very blah looking with white the predominant color with accents of white cauliflower.
