The Steamboat House is a steakhouse with a Texas history flair. Its large dining room is decorated with burgundy walls, flags and historical artwork. The restaurant hosts an intimate bar with a bust of Sam Houston and other Texas artwork. In addition to the main dining room and bar, guests are invited to reserve the unique Log Cabin room, which has become a popular spot for rehearsal dinners, wedding receptions, Christmas parties, anniversary parties and more.

Popular lunch meal choices include chicken tender salad, Republic pot roast sandwich and tenderloin tips. The extensive dinner menu includes the best of prime and choice steaks, bison steaks, seafood including delicious crab cakes and more. The owner of the Steamboat House, Charlie Fogarty, visits with guests to inform and entertain people of all ages about the Republic of Texas History.
Matt did a nice job as our server.
It was a great place to eat and they had many options . I will go back soon
The service at the table was excellent the waiter was very good. The food was very average.
Excellent service and food was perfect! This is a great place for team lunch or dinner or family dinner!
My wife and I went for dinner here on a Saturday, early evening. The food was absolutely delicious. The room is not dimly lit, but the lights were turned down enough to provide an intimate feel and setting. The noise level was very low. The decor is that of Texas History, which I absolutely loved. The service was wonderful as well. She paid close attention to us but was not overbearing in anyway or suffocating.
Went for dinner on New Year's Eve. The food is outstanding, and while the history and artwork are an added benefit, the restaurant overall was too bright. For a seafood and steak house of this caliber, the ambiance should be much more subdued. Felt like I was on stage and the bright lights I think contributed to a very loud dining room.
Went to celebrate my fiancé‘s 30th birthday. We seemed to be the only table that the manager didn’t stop and check on. Waiter forgot my salad and never even brought up birthday.
Steamboat House is always delicious with great service. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. A shared “Cannonball” dessert always is a tasty ending!
NYE celebration and we chose the right place. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and shown to are table. Service was very good. Relaxed pace but not to long of a wait for anything. The fish (Snapper) special was exactly that (special). The only down side of the whole evening was a mid rear steak that came out purple and cold in the center. On the bright side we had so much food that I took the steak home for a great meal the next day.
I would defiantly go back to Steamboat.
We love Steamboat Hoyse and how they have incorporated the host of Texas there.
Our host Jonathon was excellent and really made the meal enjoyable and fun for our group of eight.
This was opt second year to go to Steamboat House on Christmas Eve and it did not disappoint. My husband loved his Seafood Trio, I had the chicken fried chicken and we split a Cannonball for dessert. Service was great and the Christmas decor lovely.
Food was undercooked. But they corrected it. Overall it was good. We will be back.
Just an AWESOME experience... the food was fantastic and the vibe of the restaurant was fantastic as well.
Definitely a restaurant I will be coming back to.
Great Steaks, good selection. Sides tasty. Crab cakes a good appetizer!
We held our Christmas luncheon at this restaurant. We were told we’d have the private room, however they put us in the back corner of the restaurant in a very cramped space. The restaurant tried to make it right with a few free appetizers, but the damage was done. The food was just ok and the prices were just too high for that quality. I ordered salmon medium and it came out well done and overcooked. I sent it back and the next one came out raw. The servers were nice but kept saying they were charging us $1 for this and that. It was just tacky.
Much better restaurants in Houston. I was disappointed.
Great meal with great friends
Celebrated my birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. My filet was perfect and our waiter, Jonathan, was a delight and very attentive. We will definitely be back and highly recommend.
Lunch was great. I brought someone I work with who has never been to your restaurant and he thought it was very good.
You'll have a hard time finding a better steak this close to the Sam Houston Race Park! Ordering the Baron de Bastrop filet is the way to go for a good old fashioned steak. Steak the way its meant to be enjoyed; thick cut with perfect char on the edges and a savory red middle. Portion sizes are reasonable for Texas (big) and the well cooked food represents a good value IMO. The decor is a class in Texas History and you could spend hours marveling at the various flags, artwork and documents adorning the very tall walls. It's a little loud in there but not obnoxious and the 6 place table was big enough for our party to leave all their plates room not to touch. Give this place a try if you're ever on the NW side of Houston, you'll enjoy it!
Food was great. Our server Chris was the best. Loved this place. Will come back again. Great price
We had an excellent meal and great service, all in a Texas History museum! Our favorite restaurant for special occasions.
We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary and it was amazing. We also got a good laugh, they brought out a dessert and the plate said “Happy Birthday”! It was the birth of our new life together, so why not!
We went with friends to celebrate Veterans Day.
Everything was great! Jonathan was our server and did a fantastic job.
Steaks & crabcakes were super!
Food is ok my husband enjoyed his steak my fish was a little dry . Compared to close to home good but better steakhouses downtown
Victor did an outstanding job and it was a special treat to meet and talk to Charlie the owner before dinner. Could not have asked for a better experience and I hope Charlie got his keys from the locked office!
Our steaks were cooked perfectly! Delicious. The historical items in the restaurant are wonderful and the design is beautifully done. We couldn't be happier trying out this restaurant.
Judd (our waiter) was absolutely amazing. He paid so much attention to our children, in particular our 5-year old daughter, and made sure that they enjoyed themselves during their first experience. It's always a good time with fantastic food while the staff is always polite and fun every time we go!
Ordered their signature 24 ounce prime rib and asked for medium rare... extremely dry, no flavor, and served medium well. Showed waiter who was very attentive and agreed but did nothing about it. Will not bring my clients there on my next visit.
Nice atmosphere good food and overall great experience. Anniversary dinner was delightful and wait staff right on top of things. Wait staff also gave some history of pictures etc around the restaurant. Enjoyed strolling around and reading artifacts
Very nice. Food was excellent. Brianna is a wonderful server.
An absolutely wonderful dining experience, and with a Texas history ambience; real people (Houston, Austin, wives, & families) with real stories inclusive of the back-stories. Wait staff was excellent, and the food was superb. A wonderful even at a unique restaurant with the highest of dining standards.
We took our daughter to celebrate her birthday and we were all blown away by Steamboat House!! The steaks were sublime, the sides excellent and the birthday dessert was scrumptious!! This was one of the best dinners/celebrations we have ever had! Our wonderful waiter, Jonathan, was the best waiter - giving us some history and jokes! It was the perfect evening and we can’t wait to come back!! Thank you, Steamboat House!!👍🎂🥂
Attentive service and good "banter" from server Chris. The food here is always terrific; I think it's the best steakhouse in Houston. My Prime Rib was perfectly rare as requested and the request for real horseradish was fulfilled. We booked our company Christmas party here recently. Thank you for making our evening delightful.
This is a very interesting restaurant. There is lots of Texas historical memorabilia throughout. You could spend a lot of time just looking at the history of Texas.
But you go to a restaurant for the food. We get the ribeyes. They are always tender and very flavorable. The Steamboat House is my favorite place to get a steak.
Food and ambiance is always fantastic. Jonathan our server was quite entertaining and took very good care of us. Highly recommend this restaurant!!
Gorgeous facility with a ton of Texas history everywhere you look. I’ll definitely be back with friends next time.
I got the steak special of the day - bacon wrapped ribeye - it was properly cooked but I recommend they lose the sauce. I can’t remember the last time I had a steak in Texas come out with sauce already on it, so it wasn’t what I was expecting, but I didn’t make a fuss because I had clients with me.
This is probably one of the best places that I have ever dined. Mr Charlie is great!
