Consistently good food and service! Shelly the manager does a fantastic job! She is very customer service oriented and is always willing to jump and and help out the servers if needed.
Family came into town for the weekend and we wanted to have a beautiful view and excellent meal. We received both.
Food was delicious. Value was meh- portions/variety of sides/menu were relatively small for the prices. Service was mediocre, too - lack of knowledge about the food & slow. However, the quality of the food we were served & the view & ambience made up for the things that were less than excellent.
Very nice restaurant ambiance but the service was slow(and they weren’t busy) and the food average. I expected more from this restaurant.
In over 15 years of dining experiences I have never walked out of a restaurant until this one. The evening: Server comes to table does want "repeat herself" when the last two parties arrive at the table so will come back, but fails to even take a drink order for the 4 of us at the table. Does come back 15 min later and take out drink order(2 min before the other parties arrive). It then takes 20 more minutes to get a drink and we await our food. 45 min later(mind you she has not stopped at the table once and our drinks are gone, the appetizer is not delivered and there isn't even water left at the table) she returns to check with one party about what they order(she was wrong in her assumption). At this point 4 other tables have sat and received their dinner (its pushing over an hour). We request mgr to do SOMETHING. A new server shows up with water, no idea what's happen and tried to take our order AGAIN. (in the meantime we overhear the server charged the people behind us the wrong amount/bill on their credit card). New server takes drink order, 20 min goes by before HALF the order shows up. Its now 1.5hrs into the reservation. We have had enough and cut our losses and ask the mgr for the bill one what we received. Even that bill is not accurate but at this point we are just ready to leave. They comp an app and bowl of soup with no real apology other then a "we are short staffed" by one person or "its the kitchen" by the server(somehow in the time we are there the kitchen was able to produce food for at least 6 other tables who came and went while we were there. I watched at least 3 servers wondering around a location which had MAYBE 60% of the tables occupied. (so not a staff issue) and the fact that we watched people sit, order, get food and finish their food it clearly was not a kitchen issue. When one of our party expressed aggravation to the MANAGER- Response was "its like that" and walked away. I will never return to this establishment
We loved Steam before the pandemic so we gave them a try 2 months ago. They were not really ready to re-open: bad service, mediocre food. So we visited again last night and were disappointed. The poor waitress seemed totally untrained and brought our bill that was much more expensive than what we ordered. The manager eventually fixed things. The food was very tasty, although my $32 cioppino only had 3 shrimp and 3 clams.
I hope they get back to the fine restaurant they used to be.
ordered a dirty martini- not dirty and no olive. Oysters Wilmington and Caesar salade
were great. The Sundried tomato cavatappi looked great on the paper. We added shrinp for an additional $9.00. My wife had one and I had two she had the one slice of muxhroom and i had the one tomato.
Perfect place for our 34th Anniversary dinner before the Jim Gaffigan show at Live Oak Amphitheater. The unobstructed view out to the Cape Fear River is beautiful and it’s a short walk to the amphitheater and right next to the convention center. We had the fixed price theatre menu with signature cocktails and wine with dinner. Delicious seafood chowder, salmon cooked perfectly with crispy skin on a bed of cheesy Gouda grits. Favorite was the berry chocolate bread pudding! Amazing to be in the Embassy Suites. They had a window table waiting for us-made our evening.
Worst dining experience ever! There were 8 of us. Waited an hour and a half to only find out our food order was never put in. Had to remind the waitress to even get our drinks. Manager flat out lied to us in regards to our food and then a server told my 21-year-old niece to F off. Unbelievable! We left without eating. Find a different restaurant!
Location and atmosphere are nice. Menu is sparse. Appetizers (Brussels sprouts and pimento cheese) were good. Salads were lacking flavor and entrees were expensive for decent food. Great location close to amphitheater but not worth the money.
Wait staff was hustling! Good effort for being understaffed. Thank you.
felt it was pricey for no more then the serving size. Food taste was good. We both got the special and it was $58 for two. We go two glasses of the cheaper pinot. It amounted to about a 1/4 cup each for $8 a glass.
Delicious and beautifully plated food. Excellent service in a quiet and relaxing environment, overlooking the Cape Fear river.
The view of the river was great. Our server was wonderful. The brussel sprout appetizer was very good. But, the entrees were average. My husband got scallops and they were very bland. The tuna special wasn't bad, it was just OK. For the price, I expected the dinner to be better.
Food was poor. Salmon was obviously frozen. Short rib was saturated in the unfavorable flavored sauce. Drinks were awful. It’s no wonder why we were able to get reservations the same day.
It's a gorgeous view of the river pretty much anywhere. ..food was great and Tyler did a great job!
Great service and ambiance. Food was good and good drink selection. Good time had by all of us!
Waitress was great slow bar service. Shrimp and grits were ok nothing outstanding. Rest of food was very good
special location, view, menu and drinks, fantastic
Food was delicious, compliments to the chef. Our server was attentive and kind. The restaurant was beautiful and staff were very courteous.
Had a great dinner, attentive without being overbearing service, and a relaxed atmosphere. The crab and corn chowder is fantastic!
great experience at the restaurant with amazing view.
Salmon was the best I’ve ever eaten! The interior of the restaurant and the river views are very nice.
Loved our experience at Steam Restaurant. The service was great. The dining room is beautiful with views of the inter coastal.
Beef short rib entree was delicious. Creamy cheesy grits, perfectly steamed carrots and tender short ribs. Dining companions enjoyed the salmon entree. One person swapped out the starch with no problem. The pricing is very good for the quality and quantity of the food provided. Great wine list too. We will definitely be back.
Great view and good.
Great food and service
Romantic dinner for two! First time there and will definitely be back!
It was a great place and the setting over the river front is awesome. Food was outstanding and our waiter was great
We had great service from George. Food was great
Food was awesome and George did a great job for our large group!!!!
This was our first time at Steam. It is a beautiful restaurant with views over the river. The service and presentation were very good. We looked at the menu on the website which was quite limited. My husband and I were both set on ordering the scallops. However, they were not on the menu at the restaurant which was a huge disappointment. I ordered the crab cakes which were filling and very good. My husband had the pasta with pesto and shrimp, which he didn’t care for at all. Only 3 options for dessert so we ordered the brownie with ice cream. We asked if the brownie would be warm and was told it was. It was actually cold and brownies from mixes were much more flavorful.
I think if the restaurant would rethink their menu, thus would be a lovely place to dine.
Staff was accommodating and super. Thank you so much
great view, nice place, great location downtown in Wilmington
The environment was fabulous. The wait staff as well. The food was mediocre that night. Salmon over cooked, garlic fries with zero garlic. Ok.
Heads Up: They charge $17 for one Bloody Mary, and the prices aren't on the menu. The food tasted great and arrived cooked properly and well put together, but the price points are questionable. There are a number of similar-typed menus in Wilmington, and places with nice views as well, so we'll probably frequent them more often than Steam...especially after the Bloody Mary incident. It was good--but not nearly "that" good. Overall the staff was great though, and we had a nice evening.
Had a great family dinner there. Great view of the river. Kind staff.
Short Rib dish & Burgers were good. Bagel chips with pimento were rock hard. The crab cakes were a little lacking in terms of flavor, poorly dressed greens accompanied them. Brussels were a little burnt. Overall, not the same quality as the first time we came.
Great food and service, wonderful view… chowder could have been a bit warmer, but still delicious
It was a delightful experience with great service and phenomenal food
I selected the restaurant because they allowed reservations and were family friendly (kids menu) and we had a small child with us. Our server and the other waitstaff were excellent. We sat in the side dining room which was open and had nice views but it meant every noise traveled - not great for kids (or large tables). I had the feature, swordfish which was excellent. My boyfriend liked his burger.
The pimento and pickles appetizer is served with “bagel chips” which are clearly old bagels from the breakfast menu and were very chewy/inedible. My sister had the shrimp and grits and my dad had the pasta dish with shrimp. Neither of them finished their dish and said their shrimp were tough. Our server confirmed the brownie dessert did not have nuts in it but then came back to caution that since the brownie was NOT made in the restaurant they could not guarantee the allergen content. We should have cancelled the order then but needless to say the microwaved brownie from a package was disappointing.
