Beautiful views and restaurant looked very clean. Was not a fan of grits being paired with salmon.
Our first experience at Steam was delightful. We made an early reservation to enjoy the sunset and the view was outstanding. The food, beverages and service were even better!
This was one of the best meals we’ve had in Wilmington. Our oysters and clams appetizers were the most unique and delicious we have ever experienced. The steak and scallops main courses were also perfection. Compliments to the chef, professional and wait staff was the a perfect beautiful sunset view.
We went there for the new-year eve. The food was really good and well prepared.
One note: as italian, we like to have time during dinner, in order to speak and relax, a dinner like this must be at least 2 hours to completely appreciate, instead in 1 hour we had already the check. But I understand that this is american style and the main part of customers would appreciate this. Overall, I was very satisfied.
I don't know anywhere better to eat than Steam We had the new year special dinner
We keep returning to steam because we celebrate the anniversary of our first date and the food is excellent the service was stellar and it was a great place to celebrate
Super disappointed in this experience. Our waiter was nice and the bread was brought out quickly. The bread was super tasty! We then ordered cups of the corn and crab chowder. This is where things went downhill. The chowder tasted like water. There was relatively no flavor and it tasted worse than the frozen chowder you can buy at the store. The waiter asked how it was and we said it wasn't good and he laughed, took our bowls and walked away. Was super weird. We both ordered the shrimp and grits which came out quickly. The grits were supposed to be smoked gouda but they tasted like plan instant grits almost. No flavor at all. It was also supposed to have a pimento mornay and the sauce was relatively flavorless and thin. Definitely not a mornay. The shrimp were cooked properly and the mushrooms were good, but it was absolutely not worth 27 dollars. Though the view was nice and the service was quick (though inattentive when we provided feedback) we would absolutely not recommend this restaurant and we will not be returning. It was bad hotel food :(
We had dinner at Steam on Christmas Eve and the food was excellent as was the service. Highly recommend!
Joined my lovely sister, brother-in-law and beautiful niece for Christmas dinner. Although we had to make a reservation late, we got (5:45pm) for seating. Originally scheduled for non-view table, when asked the staff accommodated with a lovely table with a great view as the sun went down. My sister and I split the special menu and were NOT disappointed with the duck or the lamb shanks. The whole meal was wonderful! A few side dishes were less than great but still prepared with the expertise that the presentation showed. My BIL and niece ordered off the menu (salmon, butcher's cut) and theirs was prepared equally as well. I would only recommend to a friend if I were to be in the party!! Hearty recommendation overall with emphasis on our server Britany, she was wonderful. With the ambience, scenery, food, drinks, and service by Brittant--FANTASTIC!!!
Visited Steam for Christmas Eve dinner for two. Food was…not great. Started with seafood chowder which was thin and watered down though the taste was ok. Sweet potato Johnny cakes served w both entrees were tough and cold while the seared scallops were not crazy fresh and served cool. Trigger fish, the catch of the day, was tasty, well seasoned and, unlike the scallops, served warm. The wine list is pretty anemic and those wines offered by the glass are low quality, which would be fine if the restaurant didn’t bill itself as upscale (the prix fixe menu on offer was $109 per person; food only).
The service was fine- the wait staff forgot the one substitution we made (made because of an allergy) but other than that they were attentive and knowledgeable. The restaurant has some great views but wouldn’t recommend.
Christmas Eve dinner
Wedding celebration dinner.
The steak was tough but the dolphin was great.the service was fine but it was loud and the where sweeping around my table as we tried to eat.
Celebrating Christmas with family. Steam is a beautiful restaurant with an excellent wait staff. Fish chowder was just ok. The blackened Mahi-mahi on a bed of collards was delicious; serving size was small to medium. As a whole it is good special occasion restaurant.
Enjoyed the theater pre fixe menu.
Perfect prior to a show at The Wilson Center (which is just a short walk away)
Would highly recommend . Service was excellent and food very good .
Great intimate restaurant close to downtown Wilmington and waterfront. Steaks were perfectly cooked and charcuterie board was amazing. Very easy walk to the Wilson Center for the ballet then went back for cocktails and dessert at the bar. Bartender has MAD SKILLS!!! Great experience - will be back.
birthday dinner for our daughter
This was our first trip for Thanksgiving in two years (since you were closed last year). My rating was much higher than my husband's. I enjoyed the food, the ambiance, the view over the river. We were invited in on time, and all the servers were friendly and gracious. The apple pie was outstanding (the chocolate cake, not so much). We had a 3:00 time and the pecan pie and coffee creamer were both gone. That could have been prevented. All in all except for these few snafus, we had a very good meal. The oysters were welcome!
The perfect way to celebrate in a beautiful setting. Not crowded, tons of friendly help, the food was absolutely perfect. A very wide selection with excellent quality and attention to detail. The mood was festive and warm and they had everything we could want from Prime Rib to oysters and shrimp to salads and every side imaginable and so many gorgeous desserts we were dizzy. This was an EXTREMELY good value for the food quality and service. A+ experience all the way. We already decided to make it a tradition.
The buffet was cold!! It may have been good food if it had been warm or better yet hot!!!
We live in Wilmington and head downtown every weekend for dinner. We were looking for a place to try that we hadn't before. So, checked out Steam...excellent all the way around. Food was delicious, service was friendly and attentive. Such a cool interior...we'll be back.
Saw some reviews from August that were pretty bad but when I checked out the dates, they're pretty much all from August when the restaurant had just re-opened and were struggling, like so many, to find staff. I wouldn't pay attention to these earlier reviews.
We chose this restaurant due to the proximity to the Wilson Center. All 4 of us were pleased with our meals. The view is great looking out over the cape Fear river. There re a lot of good options for dining in downtown Wilmington, add Steam to that list.
We wanted to dine by the water but not freeze in the chilly evening weather- found Steam on Open Table and decided to give it a try. We made a reservation for 6:45 pm, but got there a half hour early and were able to be seated immediately! That was very lucky because after viewing the menu we found out they had a pre- fix of $65 per couple for 2 apps/ 2 entrees and shared dessert! Was awesome value and beautiful atmosphere! Will definitely go again but early bird gets the worm here for sure! 😊
We sat overlooking the Cape Fear River.. Just spectacular view... Food was decent and drinks we great.. Excellent service too.. I recommend for the view.
Great location for the Wilson Center. View is very nice.
Husband entree wahoo was way over cooked, extremely dry
Tomato soup had an offensive texture
Oyster appetizer was fabulous
Wine so so
Beautiful view. Great service. Food bland and not well seasoned.
We went for early dinner as we had tickets for a concert. Nice atmosphere and service was good. Food was really good! Will definitely return.
Beautiful scenery, delicious food, and the waitstaff are very attentive/friendly. I will definitely be back!
They were out of a few things but understandable with delivery issues. Our dinners were very good and it is a very relaxing setting.
Nice evening out I recommend trying but make reservations
The restaurant was nice. Too expensive for the quality of food served.
For a Friday evening, the restaurant was relatively empty which was surprising as we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We were a party of 6 and each of us enjoyed what we ordered. Our server, Tyler, was on top of everything and very pleasant. We all agreed we’d definitely come back another time.
Everything was great! Food, service and ambiance! Well
Be back soon!
Great place to enjoy good food with great views
Always love going to Steam! We have tried different things each time and we love it all. Service is great and the views are amazing!
The food was outstanding, and the service was excellent.
Enjoyed the theater prefix menu! It was delicious! Great value and excellent service.
