The location is beautiful as well as the dining room. Live music and a real fire added to the ambiance. The food was so so and definitely not worth the price. The Halibut had no seasoning or flavor and was fishy. You also couldn’t substitute the chorizo risotto for the potato mushroom risotto but we weren’t told that until just before the food arrived. The prime rib was very smokey and no seasoning. The organic spinach salad and crab cakes were amazing! I asked if the restaurant just opened or had lots of new staff and it was the later. When you pay over $250 for 4 people with only two full meals you expect much better. Lots of potential but would definitely not recommend this restaurant.
We visited for my boyfriend’s birthday. The food was quite expensive and the value was extremely low!
The entrees and sides have to be purchased separately and most entrees are $15-$50 each! The sides are $10 each! My boyfriend’s fish was over cooked, the Mac N Cheese tasted like boxed Mac N Cheese. The small spoon of potatoes that came with my fatty steak were instant!
The $15 glass of wine I received was approx. 3 or 4 ounces!! It seemed all the employees were either high or fresh out of prison. The bill was outrageous and we left quite disappointed. I do not recommend this place what so ever!
Food was extremely overpriced for poor quality, No steak knives for steaks ???
We were visiting from out of town for out anniversary and were lucky to have found steakhouse 89 good food pricing was good and the service was excellent with good COVID precautions
We waited almost an hour for our main meal. The steak had a lot of grizzle and fat for $38
Burger was great. Service was great. The salad was also good. The french dip was highly forgettable, lacking flavor. We were seated at 1:45 and the kitchen staff left promptly at 2:00. That was the end of our service :-)
We did have a reservation which I recommend. Patio seating was very enjoyable and very quiet. The service was outstanding.
Steak was not tender for the $38 charge; potatoes just mediocore and beans tasted better out of can
Service was very slow- we were ignored for at least 15 mins after being seated. There was a party beside us that got all the attention and my family was largely ignored. That said the food was excellent.
Have eaten there many times always a pleasure. Great food, attentive staff. Excellent cooks
Meal was terrible. No way the Sirloin steak I had was prime. Very chewy and no flavor except for the wood flavor it was cooked over.
Prime rib my friend has was full of fat. Ordered sautéed spinach but the dust had more fried nouns in it than spinach.
Waitress was useless.
Bar and bartender were the only hi light of the evening.
All of the staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. We were there celebrating our honeymoon but honestly I’m 100% sure that if we were there just because we would have had the exact same experience. We will be coming back the next time we are in Sedona!
We were celebrating my husband's birthday, which I indicated on the reservation and mentioned at check in and again to our server, but not one of them acknowledged him...sad! Why ask if it’s a special occasion if you don’t acknowledge it.
We ordered the ribeyes which were just okay, but were very under seasoned and both of us had a fair amount of gristle throughout our steaks. The vegetables and dessert were good, but the calamari appetizer was small for the price and very heavy on the breading.
Overall, we were expecting more of a fine dining experience for the price we paid. Service was very good, but the food was just okay. With so many other choices in town, we probably won’t go back.
We were celebrating our honeymoon, our server was Brittney. We had a wonderful experience. Thank you.
celebrating my wife’s birthday decided to pick this place as it looks upscale and was recommended buy some of the businesses surrounding. We were seated promptly our server gave us a very poor experience we weren’t asked if it was our first time, server did explain the menu or give any recommendations when our food came out my steak was not very warm it was very tough and I had trouble cutting it with a knife not something you would expect when you’re paying $38 for a 6 ounce steak my wife’s prime rib princess cut wasn’t any better upon finishing our meal again our server didn’t ask us how everything was she asked if we want dessert we said check please and got out of there. I do not recommend this place there’s so many more great places to eat in Sedona.
How can a steakhouse be out of three cuts of meat? The one I chose was tough and I could not even cut it with a steak knife, that I had to ask for! Pricey for quality received. Maybe just a bad night?
We sat on the outdoor deck on a comfortable October evening. The Crab Cakes were delicious and our waitress was the best we have had in many years. Main course was good and we took a take-out bag with tomorrows lunch.
Server was great, ambience too, however very disappointed in the quality of food. I ordered scallops and risotto and the scallops were mediocre. My husband ordered prime rib and it was not tender at all. Very disappointed.
Good but not outstanding steak and scallops. Service from Lill was really outstanding. They are lucky to have her.
The service was slow. Not near enough staff. We waited for 20 minutes once seated to even get a drink. And then 1 1/2 hours for our meal. We ordered expensive cuts of steak and they were way under cooked, had no flavor and were extremely tough. Would of rather eaten at outback for a fraction of the cost. Not impressed with any of it. Will not recommend or ever go back.
We had made a reservation for 5pm. I had asked for a specific waiter to be our server. They told me he did not come on until 5pm. We were 10 min early and said we would wait for him. No one took our drink order so we waited. After about 30 min another staff member came over and said our waiter we requested was off on Tuesdays. We finally got our drink order submitted and later our food order. Our bill was over $300.00. A little much considering our service experience.
Vacation get away meal. 🙂
Steak was good, but overrated. Portion size was small. Nice ambiance. Not bad, but not one of the best steak houses I’ve been.
Our rating would be higher if the expectations wouldn’t have been so high and the prices would have been lower for what we got. The food was pretty bland and the dish as a whole wasn’t as sophisticated as expected.
When I first arrived I asked if we could sit outside and were yelled at by the hostess, “Absolutely Not.” Then we were seated at the table and approached by the server who was nice and asked us if we had been there before. When we said no she told us the specials and how the steaks were prepared. They first brought out the shrimp cocktail, which was pretty mediocre. Then they brought out the steaks. My boyfriend and I both ordered our steaks medium, but his was rare to medium rare. They took it back and claimed to cook it some more and brought it back and it was the same, as if they had done nothing with it. I ended up eating my entire meal while he just sat there with no food and the steak I ate was not very good. It was gristly and did not qualify as the prime meat they were advertising. We left with me very unsatisfied and my boyfriend without eating. The atmosphere was very interesting as this restaurant used to be a southwest restaurant. Oh and they don’t even give you bread! What kind of steakhouse doesn’t give you bread with your meal? Needless to say I will never go back to this restaurant and I’ll be surprised if they stay in business for long!
Very small wine pours compared to other comparable restaurants. My salad had no dressing and came with cheese that I asked to not have. Very short staff and had to wait for a new salad. Lamb chops were good, although portion was small. 6 total servings for
$ 42.00. The carrots were not cooked and the broccolini very over salted. Could not see the entree as there were ZERO lights on the outside tables. a $ 200.00 dinner for a below average experience. We are local in Sedona and will not go back nor recommend to our guests.
Everything was amazing, the food, the live music, the service, the owner introduce himself, we were very pleased
After waiting almost an hour for our drinks we decided to leave once we asked to speak to the manager and our server said that he was to busy to make it to our table. We ordered appetizers (the same time as we ordered our drinks) which did come out and the crab cakes were burnt but the meatballs were very good. On our way out a manager did stop us to talk and offered us to come sit inside and they would cover our whole meal. While this was a great offer, we declined, we were too upset at this point as it was the principal more then anything. We wanted to enjoy the cool Arizona fall air and enjoy their patio, we saw no reason why we had to move inside to be properly served. Went down the street and spent $400+ on a beautiful, delicious meal at Mariposa Grill. That place I would absolutely recommend.
We made last minute reservations and I’m so glad we did! The live music was perfect, and the service was wonderful. The mixed drinks we tried - Painkiller and Margarita - were delicious. Also be sure to try the spinach-artichoke dip - the chips that come with it are to die for!
To be clear, we travel and dine a great deal and we will pay for quality. The atmosphere was great. Staff was just slow, unprofessional. Forgetful. Manager or owner walking around in shorts and helping himself to the bar. The steaks were good but not great. Served on a simple dinner plate with no steak knife. My steak was $62 if you want rolls they are extra. So close to being a really good place but spend the salary and get a quality front of house Manager who knows service and presentation or lower your price to reflect the quality.
The food is challenging to discuss for the cost and the rest of the scenery - service, ambiance. It was sub-par at best and should be upgraded when charging the prices.
Silly small note for opentable - if you’re asking what special occasion is happening when booking please make certain to advise the restaurant of such. No mention or questions were asked of our group about the celebration that was checked off during booking.
They were out of fillets, ribeyes and prime rib. We ordered NY strip which was very tough and 40% fat . They were out of steak knives - were told they were being washed and would bring to us soon - never received - had to cut tough steak with butter knives. Waiter never returned after serving food until he brought check. They were good at refilling our water. Potatoes and vegetables were good. Prices reflected high class restaurant but steaks and service did not.
Wait staff didn’t adhere to mask policy.
Owner wore none at all.
The food was terrible.
2.5 hour serve time for 3 courses.
25 minutes and 4 requests to get water refilled.
Not sanitizing tables between seatings...quick wipe of table with damp cloth. Nothing on seats.
All tables on patio were filled. No social distancing.
Out of filet, Prime Rib, and ribeye. How does this happen at a steakhouse at 7 pm on a Thursday?
Seated an unscheduled bus in front of our reservation and all downhill from there.
The Covid compliance is terrible and the owner clearly sets the tone. He was seating people and maskless...not even around his neck.
We should have left, but hoped it would improve.
Ribs were terrible. Halibut dry and inedible. Chicken Poblano soup was bland and puree’d. No chicken present. Calimari was tough and all tentacles.
In fairness...facility is nice, patio pleasant, and spinach salad was good. But overall, a sloppy, slow service experience and no self-awareness or apologies. We asked our waitress to please pull up her mask politely and she complied sporadically for us but was down at all other tables.
Overall, at these prices, should be much better. Over $200 for two people, I expect much better than this.
Menu is attractive. Don’t be fooled. Quality and value the terrible. If you decide to give it a go, have a backup reservation as plan B in case you decide to leave...we should have.
We were very happy with the food and drinks, however, the service was very poor. We waited at least ten minutes for drinks, and then another twenty for salad and bread. The glassware from the first drinks (which were finished before receiving any food) still remained on the table at the end of the meal even though the utensils and salad plates were taken before the entrees arrived.
After another an long wait, the entrees arrived, but utensils were never replaced. We sat there waiting for the server to return with them as well as a second glass of wine, and eventually my husband went and rounded up another server for silverware.
The food was great, service not so much.
We were sat outside by broken patio heaters and stacked chairs. $68 ‘medium’ steak was crispy well done. Kids hamburger was charred and inedible. Asked for salad dressing that took 15 min to get. Overall disappointing for the price
There was a delay in getting our drinks. We ordered an app and it came at the same time as our dinner. Service was not great and the steak was average.
Service was the worst we have had in Sedona! A steakhouse out of rib eye? My sirloin was good but my husbands prime rib was a very thin cut, fatty and grisly.
Waiter was awful, no silverware, empty water glasses, did not clear dirty dishes, wrong food from what was ordered after waiting 1:15 minutes, 25 minutes for a drink, delivered a steak knife after we were almost done!
For the prices here, I expected great service and great food!
Waitress mentioned she was covering for someone, but we rarely saw her and our food was brought to the wrong table and we had the wrong food brought to our table.
The spinach artichoke dip didn't appear to have any artichokes in it and the cheese wasn't melted.
There were upcharges to substitute food items - even if the substituted item was less than the listed menu item.
I had to go ask the hostess for salt and pepper.
Unlike other fine restaurants in Sedona that are finding ways to operate at reduced capacity, Steakhouse 89 does not keep groups separated by six feet, or at least seated back to back with reasonable separation. It comes across that Steakhouse 89 is playing roulette with my family's health and safety in order to make an extra buck.
This was our second visit to Steakhouse 89. Overall, they do the steakhouse basics well - our family of three had steak, prime rib, and grilled lamb entrees, all of which were done perfectly to order and served with great sides. We also had their meatball appetizer, which was tasty although the marinara sauce was a bit plain. My only gripes about the meal are that (a) they have no dessert that would be considered savory (all very sweet) and (b) my cocktail was 90% ice.
Were it just the food and drink, a 3-4 star review would be fair, but in the year of COVID there are considerations more than the food and drink. Quite simply, this restaurant, unlike so many others, is not making accommodations to keep its clients safe and healthy.
